Spoiler: The Story

It’s been happening for awhile now. Odd little things I can see that no one else can. I see the paint flaking off the buildings, trees turning brown and dying, animals growing sick and collapsing in the streets. Even at work my phone, my computer and even the office printer, they all spark and flash randomly. All things that you couldn’t imagine being missed by anyone with eyes … yet no one else saw.

Soon enough I learnt to keep my mouth shut so people wouldn’t think I was crazy. I knew at least few friends thought I was on drugs to give you an idea of the situation I was, am, in. So I kept my mouth shut and my eyes open, seeing the decay grow in frequency with every passing day. And as I looked I saw others, the occasional glimpse of someone turning away from the decay or a face frowning as it passed over it.

I never approached these people though, too afraid there were other reasons for their actions. So I’ve been alone in this world for about 3 months, slowly watching the corruption spread and grow, I guess, stronger. These days I even see it on people. Fungi growing from their faces or maggots crawling in their hair. I’ve see windows shatter into a thousand shards, carving a thousand shallow cuts onto those walking below. I’ve see buildings collapse into piles of rubble, yet those around simply walk by. I saw a building a friend was in collapse right before my eyes. Distraught I ran to his family to comfort them yet they didn’t believe me. They simply told me he was late coming home from work and would be back soon enough. The next when I went back he had left for work early.

I don’t even know what to say anymore. Don’t know where to turn. I’m leaving today to seek out one of the others I’ve seen around. I can’t take this alone, I can feel myself slowly going insane keeping it bottled up inside. The moon turned a fiery red last night as if it had become raging inferno dwarfed only by our own sun. I swear I saw shapes inside the fires. I can feel it’s a sign of something coming and I need to act before it’s too late.

Name: Catherine (Cath) Summers

Personality: Cath considers herself to be nothing if not an extremely practical person. She's able to see through all the bullshit right to the heart of the situation, mostly because she's normally the one supplying that bullshit. And while not necessarily lazy, she doesn't like hard work and will try to find the easiest, simplest solution to any problem in order to save herself some effort. On a more personal level, she rarely lets her real emotions show at all, preferring to let those around her see only the mask she chooses to wear. That mask is usually one of charming, engaging and borderline flirty humour. She always has a smile ready for those in possession of something she wants, such as money or safety.

Bio: She was born into an average, working class family as the eldest of five children. They had loving, supportive parents who always managed to provide for their children, even when times were tough. Though poor, they were happy. Then when Cath was 15, tragedy struck and their father, Samuel Summers, was involved in an accident that left him paralysed below the waist.

Unable to work, their family life began to disintegrate with only Mrs Summers' meagre earnings. Cath left school early to get a job, but failed to find anything that would pay enough. Very soon after she found out that her looks and smooth tongue could get her things she normally wouldn't even have considered possible.

With the help of books and an ever-expanding network of shady friends, she learned how to con people out of their money. It kept her family clothed and fed while she was free to move around the country as she pleased, doing something she grew to love. It was almost an addiction to her – nothing could stop her, not even the police. Though they searched for her, she managed to stay one step ahead by changing her identity and name often.

For years, things went well. Then on the very same day that she first drove into Erben, things changed. At first she thought she was seeing things and even consulted a doctor, but when he found nothing wrong with her yet she continued to see things apparently invisible to other people, she was forced to believe that there was more to it. Though afraid, she told herself that she'd find out what the visions meant.

Equipment: She lives in a rather beat up old RV. It has everything she owns including a few books on the arcane which she's collected throughout the years to further her knowledge on the subject and so-doing become better at fooling her clients. She rarely has any money to throw around and has to live frugally, but she doesn't mind. She loves the open road and enjoys moving from one city to the next in search of new clients to bamboozle.

Trivia: She doesn't believe in ghosts, spirits or the afterlife. Unless she can see and touch it herself, she won't believe in it.

~ She has a mark in red shaped like the moon on the top of her right foot. It covers almost the entire area.

It was on a surprisingly pleasant autumn morning that Emily Connors pulled up outside the hotel she'd be calling home from then on out. The air was crisp and clear in the busy London street known as Iver's Drive and she tentatively took it as a sign of good things to come. Standing outside the square, four story high building, she looked up at its red-bricked front and wondered if she was really capable of carrying out the goal she'd set herself.

Almost as soon as that doubt entered her mind, she banished it. Ever the practical one, she told herself that she'd gone too far forward to turn back now. The hotel was almost up and running. All it needed was a few finishing touches and if she was to back out, it would take more effort to close up shop than it would to go forward.

Determined to get her first official day on the premises started, she turned back to the taxi which had brought her, thanked and paid the driver, then picked up the single suitcase he'd removed from the trunk. Up the six steps that led to the entrance she went, lugging the heavy load. The double doors were wide open and inside it was bustling with people – the cleaning crew. She'd hired them a week earlier to get the building into shape. It had been in a terrible state when her uncle died and it was subsequently passed to her. He hadn't used the hotel at all for years except to store a few somewhat questionable items in the basement.

Now, it was empty still except for a few rooms which had already been fully furnished such as the kitchen, Emily's bedroom, her office, and the lounge. The rest of the furniture such as the guest's room's beds and such would be arriving the next day. If everything went according to schedule, they'd be able to open for business within two weeks.

That was her plan, anyway.

She still needed staff.

There certainly wasn't a shortage of people looking for work. That wasn't the problem at all. What she was having trouble with was finding someone she felt she could trust with the secrets she would have to share with them.

This looks like a great thread. Why not advertise it in the Roleplay Directory or sign it up for Roleplay of the Week to get more players? If you want, you can submit your roleplay in the RP of the Week Banner Shop to obtain a banner for your RP of the Week submission. Also, you can further advertise in the Siggy shops and in staff signatures? The Tribune is a great place for advertising as well!

Name: Ernestine Eisenhower

Appearance:

Personality: rather shy, before the decay started, he would rather use sign-language to speak, than his actual voice. He would rather avoid any and all confrontations, if possible, but when cornered, and he knows he's right, he will stand up for himself, showing a rather courageous side. He fears that side of him, but knows that its better to have it, than not to. after he started to see the decay, he would sign about it, to all of the people that he knew, but they wouldn't listen, they just figured that he was losing his sanity. When the third person didn't believe him, he became even more shy, barely leaving his apartment. He fears almost everything, when it comes to the decay. He also has a slight case of ADD, causing him to be very jumpy, and paranoid.

Bio: Due to an accident when he was very young, involving an electrical outlet, he was deaf for a few years, but he could still speak fine, so no one noticed it. But other than that, he led a rather normal life, up until just before high school got out, then he lost all of his friends, when they all turned to drugs, but he didn't. He became rather shy after that, and it has only gotten worse.

Now, as an adult, he works for a big company, who make video games. His job in the wheel of work, is that he fixes the computers when they go down, and he does it like no one else can. He only comes in when the office is cleared, but he does his work well, so that the computer he fixes, it its brand new, it runs faster than before. His understanding of computers has helped him in the past, but he doesn't talk about it, because it shames him.
Equipment: USB drive with most of his tools on it. A pair of wire cutters, that he forgot was in his jacket and has never taken out, and his Iphone, custom built.

Trivia: Would rather run, than talk, but when he does talk, with his voice, it's either very important, or his target has something that he sees as he needs.
Writing Sample:

Running, running. Through the forest, vines and branches hitting, and wrapping, trying to slow me down. They come. The villagers, not knowing what I am, they attack. Fear drives us all on. Me, nothing but a bug in their eyes, but to my own, I am a beautiful creature, the only one in existence, far as I know. A lucky vine, positioned just right, catches me around the ankle. My claw cuts clean through it, and I dart up the tree, in an attempt to hide. Tired, I look at the torches that they carry, wondering why they like fire, when it hurts if you touch it.

The humans continue past my hiding spot, and I head back to my home, my safe haven, my cave. On the way, I take a good long look at myself, my large claws, great for getting into trees, or catching my food, my head, nice and aerodynamic, to assist in my movement, my long tail, which helps me to balance, when I'm on unsure footing. I don't see what makes them afraid. I sigh, and continue on, tired from the run and the hunt just before. I curl up, next to the remains of my mother, wanting nothing more, than for her to be alive, so that she could continue teaching me the skills I need, to survive. I close my eyes, all four of them, and fade into the abyss of my dreams, where sometimes, my mother comes to me, so that she can teach me more, and sometimes, where I'm not alone, but with more like me, where we all care for one another.

The next morning, I wake up, with a young human child in my face, I jump up, and scoot as far away as I can, not wanting a repeat of what happened last night. The child, however, seems to have another idea, as it comes at me, tottering unsteadily on its legs, reaching up at me, a strange look on its face, not at all like the ones from the village, but one near the opposite spectrum. I fearfully bend my head down, to sniff it, wondering what it wants, and it latches onto my face. I freeze, and gently pull my head back up, but the child makes some kind of noise, but not like the harsh ones from the village. I turn my head a bit, and the child climes up, over my head, landing on my back, just behind my un-working wings, because I'm too young to have learned how to fly. The child settles itself, and pats my side. Still not sure what the child wants, I leave my den, and smell the air, wondering if there are any other humans in the vicinity.

There is, but the sent is mostly covered in the smell of blood. I head in that direction, wondering if the human was hunting. When I arrived, a ghastly sight greeted us. The human I had scented was torn in several pieces, only the main center part remained, she was dead, headed to who-knows where. I scented for her trail, wondering where she was going. To that village. figures, this one was headed to that village, the same one that had treated me so badly before. I resolved to take care of the young human, with hopes that if I can get this human back, they won't treat me so badly.

A few years pass, and the child has taught me its language, so now I know what the basis of what the first villagers had said, "What is that hideous thing? Its gonna kill us all! Not if we kill it first!" It's sad, really, That I was afraid of them, when they were afraid of me as well. I've also taught the young one my language, with the help of my mother, whether or not she knows it. My wings are bigger, now, and I can glide a bit. The child has given me a name, "Da'navigish'lidinalic" which means in his language, "Large but friendly monster," and given his name, "Kilmi'nevakilo'acniban" which means little soldier. We have lived in piece, the two of us together. He has taught me many things, like for instance, that fire may hurt, when you touch it, but it also gives warmth, and light. 'course I don't depend on it, like the humans do, but I get by.... (I'll cut it off here)

Personality: Robert has kept the typical working personality of a police officer, there was something about police work, the social structure and the work atmosphere. Which continued to cause stress and present trauma to his daily life; he is domineering, narcissistic, authoritarian, physically oppressive, and basically the opposite of the personality traits most often cited as being desirable in a police officer.

Bio: Robert was born the eldest son in the Heatly family, a family with a lone tradition of serving in the Erben Metropolitan Police Service. He attended schooling where he achieved high honours in Social Studies and Physical Education. After graduating he became a fully fledged member in the Erben Police, where he continued to show advanced knowledge in riot pacification and armed response.

Equipment:
- 9 mm Heckler & Koch MP5: It's munition expended long ago, Robert carries it as a reminder and for psychological effect. Though the extended stock makes for an exceptional improvised weapon.

- 9 mm Glock 17: With five rounds remaining, Roberts last defense in a desperate situation and the final round has his own name on it should the time come.
