Spoiler: Owen WestName: Owen West
Age: 25
Gender: Male
Education: BS in Animal Sciences
Physical appearance: Owen is tall (About 6’) and lean. He spends as much time in the water as he can, and as such he’s developed a golden tan all across his body. He has a natural smile that sends light into his green eyes, and a polite yet confident air to him. He has brown-blond hair that reaches a little longer than his family would have approved of, but it really does fit the surfer-dude aspect of his life, and he’ll cut it short for no one.
Spoiler:
Relevant past experiences: Worked at San Francisco Zoo for 3 years, working primarily with the sea lions (both of which were blind. Communication and creativity was key with working with them). Also volunteered many times at smaller zoos and animal shelters.
Volunteering, internships or other: Above ^
Reason for wanting to join SeaWorld: Wants to broaden his horizons! Owen has loved working with animals all his life. He has always loved marine mammals, admiring their intelligence. The sea lions at SF Zoo were his life, but he always dreamed of working with dolphins, seals, and, if he ever got the opportunity... Orcas. When he got the opportunity to apply to work with Sea World? There was no hesitance. He would do anything he could to get in.
In addition, his family was crashing in flames behind him (divorce, feuds, prison), and it was the perfect excuse to take his twin sister and escape. If he could get in, this would mean a new life for them.
Animals you want to work with: Orcas, dolphins, seals, sea lions.
Contract agreement (yes or no): Yes!
Spoiler: Canere - Orca
Canere's name means 'to sing'. It's a very fitting name, considering the long bellows and calls that she will send through the water; seemingly for the pure joy of it. In the early morning, one can hear her 'songs' even from above water. Aside from this, she is very calm. Fairly young at just five years old, her personality is mild. She is easily chased off by more aggressive orcas, and will rarely fight back or insist upon what is hers. She'll even give up her water toys if another whale seems interested in then.
But despite being the killer whale version of a pushover, Canere is very kind, it would seem, and extremely attentive. She pays very close watch to details, patterns, and emotions. She is identifiable by her small size, her singing, and a small pattern of gray speckles on the insides of her fins.
Spoiler: Teddy - Dolphin #1
Ted is three years old, young, and energetic. He loves playing with toys, jumping, flipping, and doing tricks even when he isn't asked. He can become a little distracted, but when you have his attention there's no better performer. Teddy loves attention.
Spoiler: Eclipse (Lipsy) - Dolphin #2
Eclipse, affectionately known as Lipsy, is easily identifiable by the scars on her back. As a baby she had a habit of jumping out of her enclosure, which lead to several injuries before she learned that there wasn't any more ocean out there. One of the reasons why she was moved to the new SeaWorld was because that smaller enclosures stressed her out. After being moved to the more open areas, she hasn't had any trouble at all.
Spoiler: Natalie West
Name: Natalie West
Age: 25
Gender: Female
Education: AS in Avian Sciences
Physical appearance: Natalie has long brown-blonde hair, and is relatively tall for being a woman. She tops out at 5’9” and her hair reaches almost all the way to her tail bone. She’s not quite as strong as her brother Owen is, but she’s lean and spends almost as much time in the water as he does. Thus her hair is lightened from sunlight and her skin is nutty brown.
Spoiler:
Relevant past experiences (jobs): Worked at the SF Zoo with her brother for two years, primarily in the Aviary with owls and eagles. She has as very little experience with marine mammals.
Volunteering, internships or other: Has been volunteering at shelters and small zoos since she was sixteen. Interned with a falconer for two years (One of the reasons she started college late and didn't graduate when her brother did)
Reason for wanting to join SeaWorld: She doesn't want to. Her brother (her twin) is dragging her into this, and she's having a fit. Especially because she had to cut her Bachelor's degree short and settle on an Associate's until she could find a college. As it is, she's struggling to find one that will transfer her credits. She can't return to their home in San Francisco for family reasons, she's miserable, and her dreams have been cut short. This is her best shot at a good job and an opportunity that (Owen insists) she will love. She is not convinced, but she's willing to give it a shot.
Animals you want to work with: Birds. She wants birds. But dolphins are her goal at sea world. (She may become interested in orcas eventually, but she's resisting right now.)
Contract agreement (yes or no): Yes!
Spoiler: Moana and Mino'aka (Mostly Mino'aka) - Orca
Mino'aka is the son of Moana, a seven year old first-time mother. His personality is yet to be determined, but he is very energetic and curious. His mother is assertive and playful, but often distracted. She has a difficult time paying attention to trainers and is very food driven. However, if one can find a way to motivate her, she is strong, fast, and intelligent. One cold only guess that Mino'aka will have similar traits.
Spoiler: June - Beluga
This is June. She's pretty much a puppy who was born in the body of a 12' foot long beluga whale. She's six years old, and she was born at Orlando Sea World to a mother named Belle. As far as her personality, June is as playful and affectionate as they come. She is always looking for a scratch on her head, and practically begs for her trainers to swim with her and give her toys. The loving beluga will actually become quiet and depressed if she goes without regular interaction for too long.
The only thing about her that could be considered dangerous is that she's a little pushy when it comes to getting her playtime. She has been known to pull trainers into the water, push them, or even nuzzle against them like a calf would nuzzle it's mother. If she really was a calf, this would be cute and harmless. But she's quite a lot bigger and stronger. While her intentions are good, she doesn't always know when her poor humans have had enough.
Spoiler: Hey June
Spoiler: Ruby and Garnet
These two are inseparable. Born the same month to two different mothers, Ruby and Garnet share a father. They're eight years old, and they always train and perform together. They have excellent teamwork and coordination.
