Genevera leaned against Castiel as he helped her to the bedroom and by the time they made it to the bed, she had broken out into a cold sweat. Her breaths were short and labored and her features, though stricken with worry, were exhausted. "I am breathing... but it hurts," Genevera whimpered, looking scared as Cass propped her up on pillows. Azlina seemed to notice something was amiss and crept into the bedroom, worry on her face.

"Are you okay mommy?" She asked, wrapping her arms around herself. Genevera took in a deep breath and hid her fears, nodding her head. "It's okay Azzy... your siblings are coming today," she said, trying to smile as she felt the contractions each minute. Azlina seemed excited and went to Cass's side, asking if she could help. In his frantic state, Cass had pulled the chain off the wall and Genevera moaned, hoping his parents would have heard them.

She was trying to think what his parents had told them but all she could think of was the pain and trying to focus on breathing. "T...towels. lots... of them. Water," she agreed, closing her eyes and tilting her head up. Not a moment later she heard a knock on the bedroom door, Lilyana's voice and relief washed over her face when she saw the woman.

"Mom..." was all Genevera could say, tears welling up in her eyes as her defenses fell. "Cass... ring for Ana. See if she can take Azzy until her siblings come... it's going to be hard for all of us," Genevera said, knowing she would likely cry and scream.. but those were the least of her worries. The look in her eyes spoke all of her fears and Lillyana was there, holding her hand and pushing the hair out of her face.

Not long after Ana came and got Azzy, the doctor was there with two nurses and the cribs had been brought in. Everyone was ready, for this had been the first royal birth since Lemni... all those years ago. By now, all Genevera could do was breathe and push. Mathias was waiting anxiously outside as was Kekeani. Cass was there, as well as her mother... but she couldn't focus on a thing anyone was saying... she just wanted it to be over.

Relief poured over Castiel when his mother arrived. He followed her instructions, gathering things she needed such as towels (lots of them, as Ginny had emphasized) and water. Soon enough Ana arrived and took Azlina away so she wouldn't be scared. His father and sister came as well, waiting anxiously in the living room.

Cass wasn't sure when the midwife arrived, but he was so glad when she did. He could stand by Genevera, holding her hand and reminding her to breathe while his mother and the midwife's skilled hands cared for the delivery of the baby. Their instructions were a relief. Every time one or the other asked for a towel, told him to dab the sweat off of Ginny's brow, or go get fresh water, it was a relief... Something he could do to help.

Hours passed this way. It was agonizing, seeing her in pain.. But at the same time excitement twisted the prince's stomach. Soon he would be able to hold his children.

At one point the midwife pressed her fingers against his wife's abdomen, feeling the position of the babies. "Don't push yet, my lady." She instructed, her strong but gentle hands helping to guide the first child into position. "I can see the head. Now, take a deep breath, then push. It's okay to shout if you feel the need. The first child is almost here." She offered the tiniest of smiles to reassure Genevera. "Prince Castiel, grab her hand and don't let go."

His heart pounding, Castiel obediently grasped Ginny's hand. "I'm right here, baby." He reassured her. "Just breathe, I'm right here."

"Alright... Push... Now." The midwife told Genevera.

And so the time came, after hours of agony and tears. At one point she was so tired that she could barely move and Lillyana would offer her water, which helped just a little bit. Castiel was there, doing anything he could.. but she was in more agony than she had ever experienced before.

The next thing she knew, the midwife was telling her to push. Her breathing increased rapidly and she focused on taking a deep breath, and... she screamed in pain when she pushed. "Just a little more my lady," the midwife said, and Genevera pushed again. "J...just... Ginny..." she said, her voice weak as she pushed for a third time. "I've got her head, keep pushing Ginny... a little more," the midwife said, and Genevera pushed again, screaming. Their first child was a little girl.

The baby was instantly taken by a nurse to be cleaned and checked up, but then... she could feel the second child ready to come. Her breaths were rapid and sweat poured down every inch of her body, her face was tight and cringed with pain. The midwife once again guided their second child into position, telling Genevera to push.

Twenty minutes later... the doors to the living room opened. Mathias and Kekeani rose instantly and Mathias was permitted inside, insisting not to have too many people in the room at once. A little girl rested in Genevera's arms, and Castiel held his son. The nurses were cleaning, ever attending to Genevera to make sure she had everything she needed. Lillyana turned from Ginny to her husband and smiled, looking down once more at her granddaughter.

Castiel barely got a glimpse of his daughter before she was carried away. He had to force himself to stay, though worry coursed through him. He wanted to see her, hold her... But Ginny needed him right now. Turning back to her, he continued to hold her hand. "Just breathe. You're doing so well, Ginny..."

About twenty minutes more passed before the commotion finally died down. Both children had been born strong and healthy... Over the past months, he and Genevera had discussed what they would name their children. They had three pairs of names planned: one for two boys, one for two girls, and their favorites of each. As it just so happened, they were gifted with a son and daughter.

He waited anxiously as the nurses fluttered around Genevera, cleaning her and removing the sheets. His children were in another room being cared for... But all Castiel wanted was to hold them. See them. Kiss their tiny little hands and tell them that he'd always be there for them.

The door opened and two nurses entered. Each held a child with reverence. "Your majesty?" One approached Castiel, transferring a child wrapped in blue into his arms. In that instant, something changed deep within the prince. The moment his son sank into his arms, Castiel felt weak. This tiny child made him feel completely and utterly insignificant... And yet, the most important responsibility of his life had just been bestowed upon him.

"Jesson." He whispered, leaning to press a kiss on the child's forehead. He watched as his son squirmed a little, crooning softly. Looking up, Castiel grinned at Ginny. "Look, baby. It's our son." His face glowed with pride, moreso than it ever had before. In Genevera's arms, their daughter Gracelyn was already fast asleep- nuzzled against her mother's chest.

Their family entered, and Castiel was quick to show his family the child. He felt giddy... This was his child. He was so proud. He was so happy. All he could do was smile and gather his family around to see. This was surely the best day of his life.

Even after the children had been born into the world, Genevera was still in dire pain. She felt so weak, both physically and emotionally... she was still scared, she felt so... it was difficult to describe how she was feeling. She'd just given birth to their children... a daughter and a son... she couldn't have been happier that they were healthy, given everything they had been through together... but she was still in such agony.

Tears were down her cheeks and while she wanted nothing more than to hold her children, she doubted if she had the strength to do so. The nurses were doing what they could for her- cleaning her, helping get the sweat off her brow, changing to fresh sheets for her- all while she recovered in the bed. She wanted a bath but was too weak to draw one, much less get down into it. Her mind was spinning in so many directions, and then... a nurse appeared before her with a little child wrapped in pink.

Genevera's hands trembled in anticipation, her nerves causing her heart to race. Lillyana placed a soothing hand on her shoulder and Genevera smiled a little, reaching for her daughter. The baby weighed so little at first, but then... as Gracelyn rested against her chest, the baby's weight resided against her and she realized what a beautiful, healthy girl she had given birth to. She felt tremendous joy, holding her sleeping newborn... all the pain and agony seemed worth it, and even that which she felt now was insignificant to the feeling that overcame her when she looked at Gracelyn.

There were two children that had been born, and now that she held one... she had to make sure the other, too, was safe, healthy and happy. She looked up at the sound of Castiel's voice and saw him holding a blue bundle, the opening faced to show her their baby boy. "Our babies... Cassie..." she whispered, still looking in disbelief and bewildered. Their family trickled in, Matthias and Kekeani after. Genevera held her daughter close though... as eager as Cassie was to show Jesson to their family... Genevera found herself unwilling to let go. She'd spent hours in agony and many more worrying over this moment, now... their children were finally here. She wanted a child in each arm but she wouldn't take Jesson from Castiel just yet, so she settled with holding Gracelyn close.

At some point during Castiel's excitement, he noticed Genevera's exhaustion. She was struggling to keep her eyes open and the fatigue was obvious. After a half day of labor, he couldn't blame her. It was now late in the night: a fact which most of them had forgotten in the excitement. However, he'd only just begun to show the Azlina the babies and hadn't had a chance to hold his daughter yet. How could he say goodnight just yet?

Moving to Genevera's side, Cass leaned down and kissed her forehead tenderly. "Trade me for a moment, darling?"

Genevera was angry. She was exhausted, still in a good measure of pain... and it was late. They hadn't eaten since early that morning and she was cranky. Castiel had been so focused on showing the children to his family, but she didn't want to let go of Gracelyn. It was almost like her arms were made of iron, despite her exhaustion- she felt as though she, and her strength, would wither away if her daughter was taken from her.

When Castiel came to her she looked hopeful and smiled at him, thinking she might finally get to spend a few moments with him and their children- all of their children. Then he asked to trade children and Genevera's face fell into sadness. It wasn't that she didn't want to hold her son- she too hadn't been able to hold him all day. It was letting go of Gracelyn and having Castiel's attention ripped away from her again.

"Please Cassie... please..." she said, her voice weak and soft. "We haven't had a moment alone since before labor... we haven't eaten since this morning. I just want to be with you, and our children," she said, her eyes flickering to their family. She was never one to be angry or anti-social, but... she just wanted to be with her husband and children and care for themselves.

She nodded her head, taking in a deep breath as she prepared to let go of Gracelyn. She took Jesson from Castiel and passed Gracelyn to him, and then Jesson began crying. Her heart broke and her face fell even more as she tried to soothe the baby, though at this point she wasn't sure who she was soothing- Jesson or herself. Gracelyn woke to the sound of his crying and likewise began to cry, squirming in Castiel's arms.

"They are likely hungry," Lillyana said, noticing the look of uncertainty on Genevera's face. "I'm sure all of you are, I'll have dinner brought to you," Lillyana said, ushering others towards the door.

Nara: The moment Castiel had taken Gracelyn, he regretted it. The looked in Ginny's eyes, the crying that soon came from the children... It broke his heart. "I'm sorry, love, I... I just wanted to hold her." The waning hour seemed to grow heavier upon him, and he began to realize his own exhaustion and hunger.

The queen was quick to rescue him from his loss of words. She mentioned food and began ushering the others out, saying she’d bring something. “Thank you.” Castiel said, kissing his mother’s cheek before she left. In his arms, Gracelyn continued to cry. It was a sound that pierced him, and he’d do anything to make her happy again. “Oh, Gracie, darling…” He didn’t know what to do.

Castiel sat on the edge of the bed, drawing her close to him. He cupped her face in his hand, trying to comfort her. To his bewilderment, her soft lips began to search his hand and then suckle on his knuckle.

Of course. It was as his mother had said… She was hungry. She needed Ginny, not him. “Darling, I… I’m not quite sure what to do.” Cass carried her back to his wife’s side. He didn’t want to make her hold both of them at once, but… There was clearly no way he could provide them with food.

Rawr: "It's okay Cassie... it's been a long day for all of us. I'm surprised they haven't cried before now," Genevera said, knowing that their cries caused both of their hearts to ache. Jesson too was searching for food and Genevera, tiredly but with grace, uncovered herself enough to allow room for Jesson to eat.

Castiel was trying to soothe Gracelyn, but... she was too hungry for that. He confessed that he didn't know what to do and made his way over to her with their daughter. She smiled softly at him and motioned for him to give her Gracelyn.

"You can hold her again when she's full, they'll need to be burped," Genevera said, her smie growing a little. "Then we'll let Azzy hold them and eat together... and hopefully get some sleep," she said, knowing sleep would be rough that night, if they got any at all.

A soft smile came over Castiel. "Okay." He murmured, his eyes soft as the children quieted and began to eat. Tired, he crawled into bed next to them. He took a pillow and folded it in half, laying his head on top of it. Relaxing for the first time all day, he watched his beautiful family in the quiet, smiling to himself. “I’m never letting go of you.” He was talking to all of them… Ginny, Gracelyn, Jesson, even Azlina who wasn’t there. His eyes drifted closed and for a moment he thought he might fall asleep right there.

The night had been rough indeed... when the babies had finished feeding, she'd given Gracelyn to Castiel (after waking him softly) for him to burp while she burped Jesson. Shortly after the babies curled up against their parents and Cassie went to get Azlina. She was stunned by the children, curious how they'd gotten there and asked what their names were. She smiled when Genevera promised to let her hold them the following day, and said that if she was stronger the next evening she would sing Azzy to sleep. In the meantime, Ana volunteered for the duty and offered to stay the night with the young princess- which Genevera was most grateful for.

Throughout the night, the children woke up periodically demanding to be fed, needing to be changed and frequently enough wanting love. It seemed to Genevera that she hardly got any rest, and that which she did get was not adequate. When the morning rays of light crept through their curtains, Genevera was curled up in bed with Castiel, her body clenched together in a desperate attempt for comfort. She was still quite sore and after an evening of new experiences... she was mentally and physically fatigued.

When she woke to the sound of children crying, her heart ached. "Cassie," she said, gently reaching over to him to rub his arm until he woke. "Cassie the babies are crying," she said, kissing his cheek softly. She sighed and took a deep breath, sitting up as far as she could before resting the weight of her upper body on her hands. She tried to swing her legs over the edge of the bed and with great effort, found herself able to do the motion but regretted it the moment she did. Her legs were so heavy, and she was so sore!

Whimpering, she shook Castiel a little harder. "Cassie help," she whined, feeling great discomfort as the babies continued to cry. It seemed as though she still wasn't ready to get out of bed and wanted nothing more than to get back in bed.

Castiel's eyes felt glued shut. It was almost painful to try and open them. His body ached with the longing to stay in bed. But Ginny's insistence was undeniable. His heart had to answer her despite his body's complaints. He rolled over, wrapping his arms around her. "Okay." He whispered, drawing her close for a moment. "Just a few more moments." Cass buried his nose in her hair, breathing deeply. "Rest, baby. I've got it." He lifted his face and kissed next to her lips.

With that, he withdrew from the warmth of the covers and crawled out of bed. His bare feet touched the floor, and somehow the babies' crying became louder. "Just lay down, Gen." He yawned, rubbing his eyes. The room was still dark, as morning was only just starting to break. "I got it..." Cass wandered towards the wall, his eyes still half closed. His feet shuffled along the floor, his hands searching blindly for the wall.

His toe hit the corner of the doorway, and Cass hissed in pain, jumping on one foot. "Agh, ow." At the noise, the babies cried louder.

As the pain subsided Castiel walked into the other room where the babies' cradles were. The room looked peaceful, with thin curtains containing the beginnings of morning light and the two cradles side by side. One was covered in blue cloth and the other in pink... One for each child. Even with the children's piercing cries, he smiled as he approached them. "It's okay, Daddy's here." He dipped his arms into Gracelyn's cradle first, pulling the tiny child into his arm. "Shh, shh... You're okay, baby girl." He gently rocked her and bounced her lightly.

In the other arm, he gently scooped Jesson up and pulled him close as well. "It's okay." he whispered, bouncing them both lightly. Each of them quieted, but their discontent was still obvious. They were hungry again.

Genevera couldn't help but to feel comforted the moment he wrapped his arms around her. She seemed to gain the strength to pull her legs back onto the bed, with some difficulty, and curled up against Castiel longingly. He told her to rest, just for a few more moments and kissed by her lips... the gesture was most welcomed and made her feel... whole, complete inside. He rose from the bed, once again telling her to lay down, that he had it... and Genevera did just that. She scooted herself against the headboard, content to wait until he brought her the babies... they were likely hungry, they had been up every two hours or so during the night and this was no surprise.

Her eyes drifted closed as she sat up, waiting for Castiel to return. She heard him bump into something and a soft cry of agony escape him. 'Poor Cassie...' she thought to herself, shaking her head ever so slightly. If she could go and get her children- she would.

During the course of Castiel's absence to retrieve the babies, Genevera had somehow fallen asleep... she wasn't sure when, but it must have been soon after for she woke with a start when he'd returned with the babies. She made sure to give the both of them an equal amount of love, with Gracelyn finishing her breakfast first she handed Castiel his daughter. Much of their morning was spent in this manner, Genevera's heart aching that much more each time Castiel had to go retrieve their children- she wanted nothing more than to walk and get them herself.

Sometime in the afternoon, Lillyana came by and brought lunch to the new parents. She even stayed and ate with them, helping Castiel the one time their children did cry for attention rather than out of hunger. The three talked, and soon even Azlina came into the room carrying her favorite stuffed bunny. "C'mere Azzy," Genevera said, her voice soft and filled with love. Azlina crawled into bed between the two and snuggled up against Genevera, whom wrapped her arms around the child. "How was your night Azzy? Did you have fun with Ana?" she asked the child, genuinely curious as to her well-being since she and Castiel had been cooped up all night.

Time passed by like the falling leaves of autumn. Soon enough, those leaves fell altogether and gave way to winter. The paths and trees became covered in a thick blanket of snow, keeping many indoors. It was a peaceful, quiet time; a welcome breath of fresh air. The young Ethmeiar Family spent their time together, often close to the fire with mugs of hot, sweet liquid in their hands.

As the months passed, Genevera regained her strength, allowing the family to take walks through the numerous halls of the castle. These were relaxing times for both the parents and the children… The snow outside gave the world an ethereal light that illuminated every hallway. The silence was beautiful, only broken by lovers’ hushes voices and the occasional croon of a sleeping infant.

Even these quiet moments soon faded and were replaced by warm, beckoning rays of sunlight. As the frost crept away from garden leaves and flowers began to unfurl their petals, the longing to be outdoors was kindled. Naturally, it wasn’t long before the family, bustling with excitement, began to pack for the first picnic of spring.

Genevera was bounding with excitement. The winter had been the most exciting and loved winter of her life, filled with family, friends and children. Azlina had grown use to life at the castle and the idea of having siblings, she even spent much of her time helping them keep an eye on the infants and held them from time to time.

Genevera enjoyed the times spent with her family by the warm fires, but now... spring was overtaking the cold weather and she couldn't be happier. Azlina, too, was looking forward to their first family picnic. They had an array of meats, cheeses, breads, sauces, fruits and vegetables prepared as well as a select few freshly squeezed juices. Genevera held baby Gracelyn in her hand and Ana was carrying Azlina affectionately. They two had grown close as had Kekeani and Azlina. It was nice to see her bonding with the family, and for their parents to give her just as much love as any of them.

It was truly a magical feeling, to be so loved and to have so much to look forward too.

The home was a barely organized mess, but Castiel couldn’t have been happier. Even in the chaos, the crazy, Azlina underfoot, the babies ever hard to please, the mess of sandwich crusts and apple cores on the counter… He loved every bit of it. Unable to help himself, he grinned at Ginny with a baby in one arm and the picnic basket in the other. “Shall we?”

“Let’s go daddy!” Azlina exclaimed, jumping up and hugging him from the side. Cass almost lost his balance, but fell against the counter for support. “I’ll carry the food!” With a huge smile, she took the basket from him and skipped towards the door, her purple sundress spinning with every joyful step.
Genevera giggled at Castiel and Azlina, and together- all of them made the journey to the gardens. It was her favorite place within the castle walls and it was time to share that joy with the babies. King Azen joined them in the corridor, he had just arrived two days prior for the event. On his side, Mathiias, Lilyana, Kekeani, Ana and Azlina stood ready and waiting.

Castiel held Jesson and Genevera satyed close by his side with Gracelyn. At the doors of the garden, Azlina ran ahead and opened them. Genevera looked down at the children and Gracelyn opened her eyes wide, looking around and trying to see everything. Genevera couldn't help but to smile as they walked out with their children, ever watching their expressions eagerly.

A rush of warm air hit them just moments after Azlina opened the doors. Pollen, nectar, grass… All the smells of a world filled with life greeted. Castiel’s smile quickly became wistful. In his arms, Jesson crooned, opening his eyes. At first he squinted, appearing upset, but at the sight of the colorful world they were entering his eyes became wide with excitement.

Reaching out, Castiel put his free arm around his wife. Simply being able to put his hand on her and know she was there was comforting. In fact… The prince had never known a time in his life when he felt so at ease. She stilled his heart.

The garden was alive with color. The birds were awake, flitting from tree to tree, and likewise all manner of bugs had woken from their winter slumber. This wasn’t news to Castiel, of course… They’d found plenty of spiders and ants in their home over the last few months, which hadn’t been pleasant for any of them. However, seeing dragonflies race across the ponds and butterflies float by gave a sense of wonder.

It wasn’t long before the troop found their way to one of the most beautiful places in all of the royal gardens. Through an arched door in the hedgerow there a private section of the garden which only the royal family was allowed into. It wasn’t terribly big, or even grand… But here was a certain peacefulness there. Truly, it was only a fenced off portion of the garden with a few large oak trees and wild flowers growing. But perhaps the most beautiful thing about it was that it wasn’t taken care of by the gardeners. No, this section of the garden was tended by nature and the occasional loving hand of the queen.

With a squeal of delight, Azlina plopped down at the base of a shady oak. She pulled a neatly folded spread from the basket she carried and threw it across the grass, letting it fall and cover a space large enough for all of them to sit.

Together, their family sat scattered amongst the blanket and the infants wiggled in their parents arms, stretching and sitting up, trying to see anything they could. "They're so happy," Genevera said, her voice soft and filled with love.

"I think we all are," Azen said, smiling at his niece. Genevera smiled back and leaned against Castiel comfortably. The feast was spread before them and Genevera couldn't help but to smile. Azlina was sitting between Anabeth and Kekeani and Genevera was simply... happy, watching everyone around her.

Castiel laid Jesson in his lap, letting the child gaze up at the shuddering leaves above them. Filtered light fell all around, seeming to shelter them as they talked, ate, and laughed.

Somewhere in the midst of this simple gathering, the prince’s attention was caught. He gazed at Genevera, smiling wistfully. Cast in the glow of a thousand oak leaves, she was as beautiful as the first day he’d noticed her. Not the first time he’d seen her, or the first time he learned her name… For just a moment, Castiel was taken back to the moment when he met Genevera Blaecthorne as more than a servant; as a person. As a brave, beautiful heroine who would throw herself into the fray to save the life of someone she didn’t know.
