August 27th, 2012. Vashon, Washington. One hundred years after it burned to the ground, Vashon College opens it's doors to students once again. With a beautiful campus located on the idyllic Puget Sound and a roster of expertly qualified professors drawn from all across the United States, the residents hope the college's inception will usher in jobs and learning for the area. However, a recent string of grisly murders have dampened the spirits of the islanders, and have spurred the King County Sheriff's office into action not seen since the Green River Task Force was formed.

With the college newly opening and the killer on the loose, this autumn looks to be a restless one for the once sleepy sound.

Spoiler: OOC Explanation 

This roleplay functions like a game of mafia (alternatively known as werewolf) or a murder mystery party: the characters you play are all residents or visitors to the town of Vashon, Washington, and out of those characters I will randomly assign one to be the serial killer. But there's a small twist, because on this small island in the Pacific Northwest, everyone has a secret. Meaning that all characters will have a deep, dark secret that only their player and myself will know.

Throughout the course of the roleplay, each character will work to uncover all of the other character's secrets, and live the course of their lives on this rainy isle. A great amount of collaboration and communication will need to take place, and again I reiterate: if you do not feel comfortable with having your character to be randomly chosen as the serial killer, or you are uncomfortable with the content that that will present, then do not join.

Spoiler: Possible character roles and ideas 

Student at Vashon College
You are part of the inaugural class attending the newly opened Vashon College. The College serves all years of students from freshman to senior, but has a general academic requirement. As much of a bummer as that often is, you've heard good things about the guy who teaches English and so that class might not be so bad.

FBI Agent
Perhaps this isn't your first rodeo, or perhaps it is. Either way, as part of the Behavioral Sciences Unit in the FBI, you are skilled at profiling criminals in unique ways and thus tasked with leading the task group to find this particular serial killer. Working with the Vashon police and King County officers, you lead the investigation to find this particular madman or madwoman.

Officer for the King County Sheriff's Office or Vashon Police Department
As a sergeant or deputy in the Special Investigations Section of the King County Sheriff's Criminal Investigations Division, you were assigned to the task force investigating the serial killer loose on Vashon Island. Or perhaps you are a part of the Vashon Police Department itself, desiring to prove that your training is worthwhile and that your community will not stand for this sort of insanity.

Vashon Resident
Maybe you're a long time islander, who knows the nooks and crannies of the shores. Do you run a small business? Are you part of the city council? Maybe you're the ferry operator, or part of the region's prestigious strawberry farmers. Or maybe you're a new arrival and haven't lived here that long, the sort of person who was looking for peace in the northwest and have now found this disturbance come to rear it's ugly head.

Tourist
The allure of the Pacific Northwest is undeniable, and Vashon especially is a beauty in itself. A romantic getaway or an investigation into the culture of the Puget Sound is always lovely, and the weather isn't so wet this time of year. You are regretting slightly that you have to visit during this time of misfortune, but it is how it is.

Other
All of these character ideas have the potential to be the serial killer (yes, even the law enforcement), but that does not mean you need to be limited by them. They're just suggestions. If you have any other ideas for a character type or background, talk with me and we'll work them out together. Perhaps you're part of the faculty at the college, or perhaps you want to introduce a story arc or your own. There's room to have this RP be more than just a murder mystery, so feel free to ask and explore!

Name: Alban Herman Coney
Gender: Male
Age: 36
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Appearance: Mid-length brown hair beginning to show a few stunning strands of grey and blonde, a strong jaw and just a bit on the taller than average side, and eyes grey eyes which shift between a light hazel and a wink of blue, Alban had always been a relatively attractive looking man. His face had one of those undefinable appeals to it, despite the fact that to some it may have looked ugly. Perhaps the jaw was just a bit too strong, or the eyes too heavy set, but people had always found him to be relatively endearing at least.

The facial scarring has changed that somewhat. At least 2/3 of his face has an elaborate, pock-marked series of burns across it, giving it a pinkish and cratered personality. Starting at the lower left-hand of his jaw, and tracing it's way across his nose bridge and over the right eye, it has also damaged his vision in that eye somewhat.

There isn't anything lavish about the way he dresses: it is precisely impeccable. The best dressed professor award would go to him every time. He takes a special pride in having taught himself many different kinds of tie knots, and shows up to each of his classes in a new suit. A frequenter of thrift shops, he seems to make old clothes look simultaneously new and better on him.

History: A Wisconsin native, Dr. Alban Herman Coney was born and raised in Plainfield, Wisconsin. After deciding to leave his hometown and travel for a bit, he eventually found himself studying at Pennsylvania State University.

After earning his BA in Psychology, he went on to study English at Johns Hopkins, which eventually earned him a Doctorate. Spending several years attempting what he calls "a youth's trite attempt at mastering the impossible," he gave up attempting to publish any sort of work and instead deigned to return to Wisconsin and teach English.

A renowned scholar who has only just recently begun to be heralded as one of the foremost historians of 18th and 19th century classics. A recent hire by the newly opened Vashon College, he is shaping up to be an interesting pick and has already spurred talk amongst both the student body and the faculty.

Personality: Alban Coney is reclusive by nature and outgoing by choice. While he keeps his private life extraordinarily private, his public veneer is the nevertheless very open and warm. The disfigurement to his face is a recent thing, and often the butt of many of his own jokes. He enjoys story telling and writing greatly.

Never content with the normal and the redundant, Dr. Coney is nevertheless very fastidious and routine in his own mannerisms. His only acts of real indulgence lie in food, music, and literature. Extremely well read, he enjoys taking up little hobbies. His interactions with people always leave the other feeling like a reference may have been made they may never catch, like he may be making some great joke that they can't necessarily laugh at. It's somewhat unnerving, but he has the keen joy of somewhat messing with people; not harmfully, per se, but rather to see their reactions.

Always friendly and polite to a fault, whatever misgivings people may have about his jests and pokes are always immediately put aside by his strongly affectionate and bonding nature.

Likes: ambition, chess, cheese, cleanliness, cleverness, fashion, gourmet cooking, jazz, literature especially 18th-19th century British literature, reading, the study of the mind, thrift.
Dislikes: cheaters, football, politics, Stephanie Meyer, tardiness, yogurt.

Name: Luna Savin

Gender: Female

Age: 25

Sexuality: Bi-curious

History: Luna’s mother had been an accomplished dancer in the Mariinsky Ballet located in Saint Petersburg, but relocated rather quickly to New York after finding another love. Naturally, her daughter had started practicing ballet at the ripe age of 5 with strict daily training in home and out. With almost no recollection of fun memories with friends or partaking in a regular childhood, the hours of hard work did pay off. Ecstatically, Luna became a professional and leading dancer in The New York City Ballet by the age of 18. This life became extremely exhausting and her body began to resist, and she desired a break. Not wandering to far from creativity, she decided to express herself in a multitude of other ways involving art.

After two full years of coaxing mother and stepfather with relentless determination to change courses she finally succeeded, moving to attend the Rhode Island school of design at age 20. Joining the Master of Fine Arts program for illustration she spent 4 years on an undergraduate BFA, and immediately set out to imprint her signature in the world. Galleries lined with her odd work took off in the beginning, but she wanted to try and make a name for herself at other places as well. Continuously moving around, she somehow lost that muse however and struggled to make ends meet.

A few artistic acquaintances suggested the Vashon Island; surely the breathtaking landscape would pose inspiring enough. Many dance companies resided there too, so employment would not be particularly difficult to find with her resume. These risks were beginning to play important aspects throughout her adult life, so why not pack up and start fresh once again? There were no ties such as a fiancé or children besides her family, but they had accepted Luna’s mobile lifestyle. As long as communication between them stayed fairly consistent, nothing could persuade her otherwise to stop searching for influence elsewhere.

Personality: Impish, whimsical, and a bit eccentric, Luna can see beauty in a flattened soda pop can. Finding joy in simplicity and playful teasing, these traits make her quite approachable. Passionate about expressing herself through dance or art, one could say she also enjoys the limelight. If faced with confrontation she will most likely use sarcasm, kill 'em with kindness, or brush off the encounter altogether with a devious smirk. On opposite means, her drawings are oftentimes viewed as controversial as she is not afraid to cross boundaries for shock value. Her sense of humor resembles this side, and can be quite vulgar at times despite her angelic appearance. Luna’s dancing personality, on the other hand, is handled with elegant discipline. Much like anyone else, these ballet pieces she dances to hold tragic tales sugar coated by a pastel palate, and flowing costumes—but nothing is ever how it appears.

History: Born native to the island but moved to Paris when she was very young, Milli remembers very little about the island. All she knows of it was that it was very beautiful, and her mother spent most of her life there until she moved to be with her French fiance. However, once moved there, Milli's mother realised her father had been seeing another woman, and with not enough money to move back to her home, she stayed in Paris.

Milli lived most of her life in Paris, and therefore is fluent in both English and French. She was always the 'popular' kid in school and she never had any troubles there, though she could tell her mother did not want to be in Paris at all. In fact, a year before Milli finished her Fashion and Textiles Master degree, her mother committed suicide.

Milli moved to the island about 3 months ago to set up her new store, in which would sell clothes Milli had designed herself. Why the island, you ask? It was her mother's home, and legally she was a resident there, having been born there. She wished for a fresh start, and she took it.
Personality: Milli was always the very confident and outgoing type, getting along with almost everyone she met. She did not get angry or annoyed easily, though it was all too easy to upset her, and even seeing she never met upset would startle her. She is very innocent as well, not understanding any 'dirty' jokes or innuendos, and you literally had to spell it out to her for her to understand it. However, she has been hardened by the hardships life has given her, and if needed, she can stay completely calm within a panic, even if it upsets her.
Likes: Flowers, nature, designing clothes, independence, stories, friends, success, pop music, cinema, challenges, dogs, sweet foods, fresh bread, cheese, French (the language), American culture, holidays.
Dislikes: Being innocent, Being called 'French' or 'Frenchie', Her father, lazy people, Rubix cubes, her own birthday
