    Arts & Crafts with Tune

This is a special article for Valentine's Day.

Disclaimer: Tune doesn't have a single artsy bone in her body, so this story will be a hilarious read.
Being the romantic I am at heart, I wanted to try something new and very special this year to make my special someone's Valentine's Day amazing. You all may be aware how difficult it can be for long distance couples, whether you met online, serving in the military or your significant other is away on a business trip. It's not easy trying to figure out gift ideas when distance is an issue, and you can't figure out things to do as a couple.

I spent hours searching for gifts for long distance couples.

I shot down so many different ideas down. Whether it did not apply to me, the cost was too expensive but the biggest issue is - I'm a very picky person and I'm on a budget. Pinterest had many cute ideas, and finally after searching through several articles, I found the perfect thing to make.

    An Exploding Box.

No, no, no! Before you get the wrong idea, I didn't make him a plywood box filled with explosives or anything.

    Don't believe me?

I found this idea on Glitter Adventures very interesting and I wanted to try it out myself. If you click the link, you'll see what I mean about the Exploding Box.

I spent weeks trying to find the right card stock for this art project. I even had Hayabusa, one of our resident GFX Artists, helping me pick out the best card stock: cotton candy pink or blossom pink. Why couldn't I decide on a pink? Well, I have issues telling different shades apart from the other, so that makes matching color schemes a lot harder for me than it would a normal person.

$52 dollars later, lots of card stock, tape, rulers, pencils, pens, scoring tool and whatever else, I was finally ready to get to work! I was really confident about myself. Really was. I kept changing back and forth from RPA to the Box Instructions, feeling like a bamf because I had a ruler and all the know-how that I could possibly need on my side.

    ...

    .....

    ..........

    How wrong I was.

I can't draw, let alone cut a straight line with a ruler to save my life. I followed the size directions to a the fraction, and things were going well. I got the first three pieces of card stock cut out with the right dimensions, scored the edges and turned the three pieces into large + signs like the instructions said. It was at that moment, that after several hours of cutting, measuring, drawing lines, erasing lines, re-measuring... That I learned I had the measurements wrong.

How'd I get it wrong with a ruler? Well, I'll tell you dear readers: Tune got cocky.

I cried. I really cried. All that wasted paper and hours that I couldn't get back

It was a few days before I pulled myself together, collected my thoughts and bottled up my pride and my tears before I sat down with all my art supplies laying out in front of me. The Instructions opened once again. My ruler now has graffiti all over it as I scribbled "5/8' "1/2" "1/4" all over it. I can't tell you how many times I measured each square. The first largest square I made, was too big for the rest of the squares I had. Back to the drawing board with that one.

I finally, FINALLY got my all my pieces together, all scored and cut out, thinking, "Hey, this doesn't look half bad." Until I layered all the pieces on top of each other and seen just how uneven the sides were, the sizes were not what they were meant to be... Just one hell of a mess, but I wasn't about to re-do everything again.

    Who am I kidding?

I redone two layers of the box three times before I was satisfied that I wasted enough paper in the process.

I had so many issues trying to figure out how to tape everything together like it said to. I really should've got the Permanent Double Sided tape, but because I knew I would make mistakes, I got the removable kind. Lemme tell you, the undersides of the boxes looks like a little kid went bonkers with the tape and it STILL won't hold it all together.

I'm going to skip all the decorating that I did - because I don't want to make this article longer than it should be - so I shall get to the very final touches that was needed.

The box was made. It was all decorated and pretty - I even practiced different cursive handwriting in order to make this Raggedy Anne style box look half way decent - before I finally sat down and started working on the lid. The lid. Oh my Gosh, the lid. It still makes my heart break thinking about the perfect lid that I made. If it was perfect, why did my heart break?

    Simple.

.... The lid was so small that it fit inside the box. It fit INSIDE the box. The one time I got every single measurement perfect... the lid was way, way too small for the box. The next lid wasn't any better. It swallowed the box whole and then some. It was bigger than the box by a couple inches. Don't ask me how! I'm not a genius. I'm lucky if I even got a C on any Geometry tests without cheating off someone else's test. >_> You didn't read that last part. I confessed to NOTHING!

In total, I spent roughly ten hours, several dozen tears, many nights and multiple hand-cramps to finally get the box presentable.

The pre-decorated results! And I apologize ahead of time for the poor picture quality and giant image.

    Spoiler: The Box its self.
You're probably wondering, "What's so special about your box?" Well, I'll tell you this.... I went through hell to make it and it was an absolute labor of love! No matter how many times I threatened to cut it in half and set it on fire. Seriously, I threatened to set the damn thing on fire more than once.

This was before I decorated it. Inside the box is little hearts that I made out of all the scraps of card stock that I had laying around.

    Spoiler: The inside <3

No one has seen the finished product besides me. Because I love you all, I wanted to give you all a bit of a surprise. Again, sorry for the huge images.

    Spoiler: Happy Valentine's Day Top

    Spoiler: Round of applause!

Madame's Academy for the Scientifically and Artistically Destructive is an academy for those who are young prodigies in science or art, but who also happen to express their talent in rather... destructive ways. Such as a science student growing plants all over their body, or one of the arts who wants to dance themselves to dance. MASAD is here to provide a safe (for the most part, anyways) place for such prodigies to express themselves... in any case destructive hilarity shall ensue.

You and several others are kidnapped from your home planet, injected with a strange DNA from an unknown donor (until he reveals himself) and just plopped down on another planet with a basic survival manual and one rule: You're free to do as you wish However you must bring population up to a satisfactory number before time runs out. You also are expected, but not necessarily required, to start a small civilization with your fellow, what is referred to as, 'weredragons' and grow your civilization with every new birth of your new race.

Magic fills the air of a world called Nevar, where treaties forged long ago have slowly begun to crumble with each passing moment. When the annual 20-year-long tradition of a tournament is suddenly wavering, whispers of war run across the lands. Dagen, a rare prosperous elf, has asked for the assistance of who he would deem heroes in a dark hour. No matter where your hero is from, or if they are in it for the gold or simple to help, they have agreed to meet the elven tavern owner. His message never said much, but he did mention that there will be a lot of gold, adventure, and glory when it is done... So, will you answer the call in Dark Tides?

August 27th, 2012. Vashon, Washington. One hundred years after it burned to the ground, Vashon College opens it's doors to students once again. With a beautiful campus located on the idyllic Puget Sound and a roster of expertly qualified professors drawn from all across the United States, the residents hope the college's inception will usher in jobs and learning for the area. However, a recent string of grisly murders have dampened the spirits of the islanders, and have spurred the King County Sheriff's office into action not seen since the Green River Task Force was formed.

With the college newly opening and the killer on the loose, this autumn looks to be a restless one for the once sleepy sound.
What's in store for this sleepy little town? Who will meet the brutal face of Death by the hands of this mysterious seerial killer that's turning this small island to one large crime scene? Whose next? Can you solve the murders before its too late? Vashon College seems to be shrouded with misfortune; burning down years ago, and now after reopening its doors, the coincidences are just piling up. Coincidences, however, won't get you far in this Murder-Mystery roleplay hosted by Juicesir himself.

Knowing Juice, there will be plenty of twists and turns to satisfy the readers and keep the players guessing. Whose the murderer? What did these people do to get themselves killed? Everyone has a dark secret they're keeping close to their chest; can these unfortunate residents of Vashon, Washington.

Can you catch the killer before it's too late?

Or are you the gruesome serial killer?
Our very own Editor Guinevere, and Tribune Staffer Lucifer (Kure) shall find out!

This weeks Roleplay of the Week forces prodigal young minds into an academy designed just for them; a hope that these immature masters of science and art can be trained in an environment where their abilities are allowed to shine. Just sign the disclaimer and check it out today - Madame's Academy for the Scientifically and Creatively Destructive.

Or, in our staff selection, join the Pagans in their eternal fight to keep supernatural forces at bay. In this modern age the balance has swayed against their favour, and this clandestine agency needs every bit of help it can get! So what are you waiting for? Join the fight today!

In a time where humans have been reduced to a food-source, housed in underground farms by the Vampires who now claim dominion of the earth, Michael Palmer, a vigilante sniper, spends his days; or more accurately nights, fighting the battle for humanity - one dead vamp at a time.

But he wasn't counting on Maia. When the deadly sharpshooter, who has more than enough skills of her own, is sent after him by the vampire council, things take a turn that neither of them would have ever expected.

    Here's a taste of the IC;

Midnight, seven months after the fall of humanity. At this time of night, the only things out were bats, crickets, and a hunter and his prey. Tonight, a hero to some and terrorist to others stalked, waiting patiently for a target. Michael Palmer used to hate waiting, sitting on the sidelines while the Defense worked, hated waiting for games, and now, hated waiting for a vampire to enter his killing ground. To pass the time, he often thought back to the last Saturday night before the war: Washington at USC in Pasadena, down by eight, fourth quarter with three minutes, thirty seconds left, third and five. Win it, go to a bowl. Lose, and go home disappointed. The call for a toss, setting up behind a quarterback whose name has been forgotten. The eerie silence of the crowd, the snap, feeling the pigskin, seeing that damn middle linebacker who'd given him so much trouble throughout the game. Faking him out at the last minute, seeing nothing but green open field in front of him...

Then his mind whispered target, and Michael snapped out of his reveire. From his third story perch in an abandoned apartment building, looking down an old Main Street, he sighted the first target of the night. Just some vamp, on a midnight stroll, probably thinking about his vamp girlfriend. Michael gave him a mil lead, compensating for movement, he let his breath out, and timed to fire in between heartbeats. The crack of the rifle startled him, but the results did not. The Three-three-eight hollowpoint entered the vampires skull, slowing and expanding along the way, creating a temporary wound greater than the actual one. But by the time Michael breathed again, the street, and part of a business, were covered in vampire memories.

Stalk, Strike, Silence, by Reaper Six and Soldierscowgirl is full of action, with the hint of something more down the road... guess I'll have to read on and find out!

From the Mouth of the Members
    by G

Once again, I have delved amongst the members and pestered them for information! This month, I found out some of your predictions for winner of this years annual Rumble on RPA! And in the spirit of this great event, I also asked about your favourite fictional warriors! I had originally said mine was Link - he kicks ass and helps his friends, all while looking awesome in that classic green outfit! But I wasn't surprised to find out you guys shared some of my other favourites, too! Great minds think alike, after all.

As Elizabeth16's self-appointed cheerleader, I was rooting for her. Not only is she a great writer, she's super sweet and gives good feedback. For some reason, though, she seems to lack the same confidence she instills in others. In light of her stepping out of this year's Rumble, I'll have to start shaking my pom-poms for RedKayne. I'm definitely a fan of the Cold Emperor and his ice magic. As if his magic abilities weren't brutal enough, he's got some badass weaponry to boot. I have a feeling that this year's final match will be RedKayne vs. Cfavano, though it's hard to say who the victor will be. Both are skilled warriors with distinct styles who find a way to take charge in whatever arena they're put in. Well, I'd have to go with Jacogos. I've been in a few RP's with him and I really enjoy his writing style, and he's a fantastic writer both outside of fighting sequences and just general RP writing. If this was for me to support a friend, I'd go with Eli because out of everyone there, she's the only person I talk to on a *constant basis.
(Not to say Jaco isn't a friend, but you get what I mean... right?)
Welp, that's a hard one to answer. My pick for the winner goes to Hoef. I've gone against him several times for casual battles, the writing style for his characters grab my attention all of the time. As we're only in the 1st round, it's still a long way to go, and more to come from him too.
Wow, that's a very tough call to make! I was tempted to say Link at first, too, but after much deliberation, I'm going with Kenshiro from Fist of the North Star instead. The dude's a legend. Link is too, no pun intended, but Kenshiro can make a man's brain burst through his skull by poking him. I love when some villain is spouting their mouth off and Ken calmly lets him know, "You are already dead." Watching their stupid heads bulge with eyes widened in terror never ceases to amuse me. Ken may be a scarily stoic warrior who shows no mercy to evil, but he's still a kind-hearted man who deeply emphasizes with the underdog and vows to defend the defenseless. In a post-Apocalyptic world, you have to be tough to survive. However, tough guys can still cry, and Kenshiro isn't afraid to prove that. One of the things I respect most about him is that he openly weeps over the suffering of innocents. Seeing his muscular shoulders shake as he sobs tugs on my heartstrings every time. There's just something so manly about not running from those emotions and allowing himself to mourn.

Favorite Fictional Warrior... hmmm... My best choice would most likely be Sora from Kingdom Hearts. The personality and innocence he has even in the darkest of times is amazing, and he has a blade that is a key (also known as the Keyblade) that eliminates bad stuff.
That or Ruby from RWBY. Because she kicks major ass at fifteen with a Sniper-Scythe that's bigger than her.

There's so many that I could pick out of a list right now. Haha. Out of all of the possible choices, I'll go with Black Rock Shooter. Apparently there's a lot of incarnations of this character (the OVA incarnation, the Manga incarnation, the Anime incarnation), but overall, BRS is a strong fictional warrior on her own. While she is silent and doesn't speak as much, BRS's actions speak more than her words. In the majority of her fights, she rarely gives up, and bears through all of the pain she is put through.

Alright nerds, this is your (completely benevolent) advice giver, Lucifer. You can call me Luci if you want. I hear you're in need of some advice? … I have ears everywhere, do not doubt my information gathering skills or the magnificent power of any of my five senses. And while we're at it, I also see everything so don't even think you're being sneaky behind my back. I'm omniscient.

Anyways, let's move on to what you actually wanted help with. I know you guys have a lot of problems because you're – apparently – not supernatural beings like myself (and I hear there's a ghost flitting aimlessly about as well) who can just magically fix these things or instinctually know what to do about them. I guess if you did I'd be out of a job. Or, at least this one. Since I don't have all the time in the world though, we'll take this at a case by case scenario. The topic for this issue is –

I'm new to this site, and nervous! Eep! How do I make some friends?

Well, friend (or should I say acquaintance?), I have some good news and some bad news. The bad news is you're never going to have any friends. Ever. The people on this site are horrible and they all suck. You don't want to be their friend anyways. The good news is, that was a complete lie!

I can't imagine you're completely new or you wouldn't have found the Tribune (tucked away as it is in the creative arts section – really, we should move it, don't you think?) so I'm assuming you've already made an introduction thread? If you haven't you probably should since it's a great way to let people know how awesome you are (or not awesome, I don't know your life – though let's be real here, you're probably pretty cool.) Plus, the people that post in your intro threads? They're usually pretty great people and they'll be your friend if you ask nicely. Yes, even the mods!

That's a good place to start, but if welcome threads aren't really your thing, there are definitely other ways. One of the more obvious ones is to join a RP that looks interesting! (How to join a RP is for another week though, so we wont go through that this time.) You'll likely become close with the people in it regardless, talking in the OOC, but they'd make great friends too. Plus, if you ever run out of conversational topics you can just talk about your RP so there's that. (Really, who wants to talk about the weather? It's the internet, nobody cares about the weather unless it's going to mess with the internet connection.)

If you're not too sure about that, and you'd like to wait awhile before joining a RP, then there's also Downtown! It's a great section for – basically – nonsense to go. You're likely to find outgoing people who will hang out with you just for funsies. You'll also find some people who are just bat-shit crazy, if that's your thing. Honestly, this site has such a varied amount of people you're likely to find someone you like downtown.

There are other ways to make friends on this site, sure, but those are the easiest ways. I suppose you could just randomly VM people with cool usernames but that might also backfire. I PM'ed this guy named God once and he never responded so now I've got daddy issues. As if I didn't already have them before – you know, Lucifer and all.

So, anyways, I hoped that helped. If I didn't then it totally wasn't my fault because I tried and that's what matters. Oh, and I guess I'll be your friend too. Just ask. See ya later, nerds.

    Monthly Horoscopes: March
    by Elizabeth16

Aries: March 21-April 19 This month is going to be one to remember. With spring in the air, keep your eyes around the corner, focused on what is coming in the future. There will be decisions this month that will change the course of your life. Remember that with each up there is always a down.
Taurus: April 20-May 20 Someone new is going to come into your life this month, though it may not be obvious. Pay attention for that special someone that is "right under your nose". There is more to this person than what the eye can see.
Gemini: May 21-June 20 Changing weather will also bring hardships as the planets do not line in your favor. Keep to the course that you dream of, though these coming weeks will stress your goals. Keep pushing forward and you will outlast the storm to come.
Cancer: June 21-July 22 Patience will be a lesson in your future. The days will seem to slow down this month as seemingly random and meaningless events pass by as you look forward to something bigger. Everything means something and time will pass regardless; patience will open a new look on life for you.
Leo: July 23-Aug 22 There is will an opportunity this month that you will not want to miss. It may seem small at the moment, but take a chance and give this possibility a chance. The outcomes could surprise you.
Virgo: Aug 23-Sept 22 Taking time this month to reconnect to nature is exactly what you need. As the days pass, make sure to take a few minutes to appreciate the trees and stop and feel the wind. Animals will be your most comforting companions during this coming time.
Libra: Sept 23- Oct 22 A few people will stand out to you in special ways this coming month. Consider what this may mean, and use this time to cherish and tell those who care about you the most how you feel for them. They will be more open to understanding, and will need your support as well.
Scorpio:Oct 23-Nov 21 You will feel a few changes to your behavior and attitude this month. It is a opportunity for you to shape yourself into the person you've been dreaming about being. Go with the changes; make an effort to be more spontaneous and creative in your daily life.
Sagittarius:Nov 22-Dec 21 Love is in the air. Wear a smile wherever you may go this month, but do not go out of your way to impress. The person you are will shine around the corner to a special someone.
Capricorn is Dec 22-Jan 19 Be careful of your temper this coming month. The situations that normally get your steam boiling will intensify this month, though it will not be your fault. Practice staying calm and focused these next few weeks. Think before you speak.
Aquarius: Jan 20-Feb 18 You will be busier this month than you have been in a very long time. The key to getting through this stressful time is to prepare yourself. It is a good time to organize your life and priorities, which will find a way of surfacing in the moment of need.
Pisces: Feb 19-March 20 As the cold air fades, your mind will be packed of new ideas and dreams. This will motivate you through your daily activities, but do not lose sight of the coming future! Share your thoughts with someone close to you to let some of these joys and dreams out.

    Eli's Cooking Corner!

As February fades, so does the Valentines romance that was a candlelit home cooked meal for that special someone, or a gourmet meal to celebrate Single's Day. The weather is kicking back into that beautiful Spring we know and love, but in the rush of work and school (did someone say mid-terms?) and spring break for some, the romance of cooking can be lost. So for this month and my first ever Eli's cooking corner, I'm going to do a three course meal perfect for not only getting back into that "bikini shape" (you're already beautiful!) or that "beach bod" look (Gentleman of RPA, you are handsome too!), but for lighting the fire for your relationship, cooking for a new spark, or just a special relaxing day for yourself. Simple enough for even the newest Kitchen-newbie to make! Add candles and a favorite drink, and you are all set.

For the First Course, Creamy Cucumber Dill Toasties.
Now, this is one of my personal favorites. Easy to make and store, and perfect for nibbling on over a glass of wine or a favorite TV show while you cook. Simple, light, and just enough flavor to make this simple recipe stand out as your special meal starts.
    What You Will Need:
•1 package of softened cream cheese. (Softened means left in room temperature for a while, or microwaved for about 30 seconds max. Should be easy to stir.)
    •1 package of Italian-Style Dressing/Seasoning Mix
    •1/2 Cup Mayonnaise
•1 French Baguette (this is a type of break; ask your local grocery baker.) cut into 1 to 1 1/2 inch circles. (I prefer to remove crust as well.)
•1 cucumber, thinly sliced. (A cheese cutter, the wire type, works well here.)
    •2 teaspoons dry dill weed.

How do I make this delicious delicacy, Eli?
    Directions:
In a medium bowl, mix together cream cheese, dressing mix and mayonnaise, until thoroughly mixed.
Spread a thin layer of the cream cheese mixture on a slice of bread, and top with a slice of cucumber. Sprinkle with dill. Repeat with remaining ingredients.

What you should end up with:

Now for the Dinner, Fettuccine Alfredo!
I'm all for pasta when it comes to easy meals. Pasta dishes are so easy to dress up and really make fancy, while being relatively simple. Plus, there isn't much clean up, and no need to spend extra time making sides. Now that those little tastes of cucumber wonders has got you wanting the next part of your awesome dinner, onto my next dish. White sauces, in my opinion, can be a light and wonderful meal. Paired with some nice amounts of green with just the perfect amount of cheese? Even better.
    What Do I Need?
    1 tbsp. olive oil
2 tsp. salt for cooking the pasta, plus 1/4 tsp. for the sauce
    2 tbsp. butter
1 or 2 cloves garlic, minced
    1/2 cup chicken broth
1 lb. asparagus, upper half of spears only, cut into 1-inch pieces
1 small zucchini or summer squash, cubed (or sliced like to previous cucumber to keep with a theme.)
    1/2 cup finely diced carrot
1/2 cup diced red or yellow bell pepper
    3/4 cup heavy cream
    3/4 lb. fettucine
1 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
    2 tbsp. chopped fresh parsley

    Directions?! That's a big list!
In a large pot, bring 4 to 5 quarts of water (this is the amount of cups suggested on pasta box. Just use the amount you would to make pasta as normal.) to a boil and add 1 tablespoon of olive oil and 2 teaspoons of salt to the water.

Meanwhile, in an large pan with large edges, medium size, melt the butter over low heat. Stir in the garlic and warm gently for 1 minute. Add the broth, vegetables, and 1/4 teaspoon of salt. Bring the mixture to a simmer. (This means lightly sizzling, about medium for my stove.)

Cover the pan and continue to simmer the vegetables undisturbed for 3 minutes. Then stir in the cream. Remove the pan from the heat and leave it covered. Add more salt to taste, if needed.

Once the water has reached a boil, gradually add the fettucine to it. Cook the pasta according to the package directions, then drain.

Quickly bring the vegetables back to a simmer and add the drained pasta. Continue to simmer the mixture over medium-low heat for 3 to 4 minutes while carefully tossing the noodles up from the bottom of the pan with tongs or two forks. (aka: don't stop stirring!)

Remove the pan from the heat and sprinkle in half of the Parmesan cheese. Toss once more. Serve at once, using the parsley and remaining cheese for garnish. Makes 4 to 5 servings.

hint: placing pan in 350F oven after adding cheese for about 3-5 minutes adds a nice golden look and baked warmth. Watch for burning.

    Your lovely result:

Could it get better?! Time for dessert: Banana's in Caramel Sauce over Ice Cream!
If you aren't drooling now, don't worry. I'm drooling enough for the both of us. This is the icing on the cake; but, without the cake. A simple, beautiful, banana and vanilla ice cream, done up enough to satisfy even the most picky dessert eater (is that a thing?). Take your time with this one. You're going to want to savor this piece of art!
Forget waiting! Tell me what I Need now, Eli!
    •1/2 cup butter
    •vanilla or coconut ice cream
•1 cup superfine sugar (also called confectioners sugar)
•1 and 1/4 cups heavy whipping cream
•4 bananas, peeled and halved length wise.

"Can't you cook it for me now so I can just eat?" No. Cook it yourself!
Melt butter in a large, heavy skillet over medium heat. Stir in sugar and cook, stirring, until sugar is melted and light brown. Slowly stir in the cream (mixture will bubble up). Never, ever stop stirring. You need to make sure to be scrapping the bottom.
Let mixture boil 1 minute, then reduce heat to low. Place the bananas in the pan and cook until heated through, about 2 minutes. Serve hot over ice cream. You can cut bananas into smaller pieces if you like!

Hint: is also a great topper for those special mornings over pancakes!

    And Whal~la!

Sadly, that's all for the first edition of Eli's Cooking Corner!
