Once Upon a Time...

Long before existence came to be, there stood a Great Tree. The Tree obtained many names over time: The Tree of Life, Tree of Beginning, The Origin, Mother Nature, Olden Tree, but it became most known as the the Witness Tree. With influence over all of time, space, and life itself, the Witness Tree is the sole support for all of existence-of space, time, and life itself.

But now, the Tree is dying. The Tree's guardian, the Witness, has vanished without a trace. Without their life force to keep the Tree alive, its power is slowly draining away into oblivion. The weather is growing wild and unpredictable, the animals are restless, and in some places humanity is crumbling to discord. So in a dying cry for help, the Tree released its energies throughout the planet of Erith, where some of them would connect with an individual chosen to seek out the Witness. Those left without someone to wield the element's power wander the planet to be found by the holder of another power, but all of the elements are needed for balance to be restored to the land. Yet, even if they were all reunited, only the power of the Witness can avert the threatening fate of universe.

Spoiler: Erith 

Erith is a planet that very nearly mirrors that of Earth in environment, with two major seas Pulis and Cam, and four continents. Vendurin is the temperate continent; Hanoo, the tropics; Babali, the desert and grasslands connected south of Vendurin; and the Great Northern Tundra. Various islands exist along Vendurin and Babali, as well as some areas in the oceans.

(Note: Vendurin is essentially a combination of North America and Europe. Hanoo is similar to South/Central America. Babali, the Middle East and regions of Africa, and the Tundra is basically the Arctic. The islands are meant to be like Japan, Taiwan, etc.)

Spoiler: Fiefs of Rolencia 

Rolencia Fief: The capital of the Kingdom of Rolencia, which controls most of Vendurin. Only the highest of nobles, royal guard, royal family, and the king himself live here. Although beautiful with towering buildings draped in colorful fabrics, an expertly trained eye could see the imposing fortress beneath the disguise.

Ordias Fief: The nearest fief to Rolencia, somewhat of a buffer from outside forces. But it's still a nice estate run by a baron who does his best to secure the welfare of the people and is a personal friend to the king.

Shippon Fief: Near the Sea with several important ports along the edge of Verdurin. An enormous concentration of activity exists in this fief from trade to work from the craftsmen.

Gale Fief: Farther north lies Gale, another port fief but built more as a military fort to brave the harsh weather.

Herder Fief: To put it lightly, "smack-dab in the middle of nowhere." Herder is a large section of land cut out for the peasantry and working class, although much of that land belongs to the Quartz Mountains in the far northeast corner of the kingdom.

Tutt Fief: The fief between Vendurin and the continent of Babali. Forest and field makes its gradual shift to Babali's desert sands, and because of location it is the subject of unpatterned conflicts from Vendurins and Babalians that want the land for themselves.

1. This isn't a mature thread, so please keep it appropriate! No more than some minor swears, okay?
2. Listen to the GM. I think this is a given, as this is my RP.
3. Even so, if you have a problem or need help with something, feel free to talk to me via OOC or PMs. I try to be a merciful goddess. P.S. Please don't take that seriously. Although I can't change everything to fit your expectations, there's always the possibility of being able to talk about it.
4. I doubt this needs to be said, but play nice. We're all people and should be given the same respect we expect from each other.
5. Make posts that are at least a paragraph long, and use third person. Also I'd like it if you have a pretty good grasp at grammar with your writing.
6. If you're actually reading the rules, add "Slay the dragon" to your character post.
7. I don't want this story to be filled with elemental stereotypes (i.e. a hotheaded fire user, a selfless light user...) so I might suggest a few alternatives through PMs if possible. A few whose personalities match the element will be accepted, but some creativity would be nice in an rp that builds off of tropes without fitting them to a T.

Name: Tyl Caster

Age: 21

Gender: Male

Occupation: Vagabond

Appearance: Tyl is a pale blond with blue eyes, his hair windswept after giving up his attempts to keep it neat. Otherwise, he is an anomaly in appearance, his tall, slender body decorated with ancient runes carved into his torso and face from his religious upbringing. The scars show easily, dyed black and clashing with the natural paleness of his skin.

Self-conscious toward his markings, he tries to cover up everything he can with his clothing: a loose black shirt with long sleeves tied around his wrists, a dark blue cloak with a hood that he wears while using his magic (Ice powers or not, he's still sensitive to the cold), brown cotton pants, plain boots, a pair of black gloves, and a thick, powder blue scarf tied around his neck to cover the lower half of his face.

Personality: As a middle child but also the only male of his siblings, Tyl grew up with a combination of responsibility and being overlooked in favor of his more charming and talented sisters. He is a gentle young man with a heart of gold, but can also be a bit of a nervous wreck-especially when his sister is involved with a worrying situation. Even though he tries his best to be friendly and harmless, he isn't afraid to throw a punch or two, regardless of his noticeable lack of physical strength.

Background: Tyl was raised in Misenn-a religious village just outside of the kingdom that protected the Temple of Mis, alongside his little sister Karia and his older sister Nai, who was the temple’s guardian priestess. He himself had been decided from birth that when he turned 19 he would be sacrificed to his god, and throughout his childhood was trained and “suited” to become a proper sacrifice when the time came, much to Nai's concern, even though Tyl held no protest against his determined fate. But a week before the ceremony was to occur, the village was unexpectedly attacked by the surrounding animals. Despite Nai's efforts to defend the village, even hiding her siblings deep in the temple, everyone including herself became victims of a ruthlessly quick massacre.

Everyone except Tyl and Karia, that was. They managed to emerge to the outside days later, and left the bloody site with little more than the clothes on their backs, some food, and a staff that Tyl had taken from the temple. Neither of the two would tell what happened while they were hiding, but it was during this that they obtained their powers along with a new goal to find the Witness.

Weapon: A plain wooden staff with a metal knob on both ends.

Other: His bond with his sister is unnaturally close, and he likely won't be found anywhere he can't keep Karia in eyesight.

Nothing truly unsettles him as much as questions about his religion-especially the role he was to play in it.

Name: Karia Caster

Age: 17

Gender: Female

Race: Human

Occupation: Vagabond

Appearance: Naturally stout, with a head of frizzy blonde curls tamed back in a messy braid. Her face has no makeup, brightened only by blue-grey eyes and dimpled rosy cheeks. Despite her weight, it should still be said that she possesses an appeal different from the standard ideal for beauty. Her eyes, her smile, her grace and her inner strength... Beauty is more than just a skinny waist and flawless skin, after all.

Even though traveling doesn't allow for a variety of clothing, she still manages to dress up nicely and efficiently. A brown vest is thrown over her pale yellow blouse tucked in with a thick belt, and underneath her brown skirt is a pair of black leggings and low-heeled brown boots. She keeps a pendant tied around her arm-just a leather string with a flat, smooth, milky white stone attached on the end.

Personality: With her own independent set of goals and morals, Karia easily balances out her brother's timid nature with her playfulness and seemingly unending optimism. Regardless of their respective ages, she's taken it upon herself to be the protector of the two, especially with Tyl's inability to move on from the past and his nonexistent confidence. However, she's also taken up a habit of denying her own feelings and insecurities in the process. It's just so much easier to hide behind her energy and fiery temper than to worry her brother with her own fears.

Background: She still remembers the faces of the people she lost. Her best friends were still in bed when wild monsters tore down the gates surrounding the village, and the nice woman who taught her to paint had too much red on her clothes-there was supposed to be pretty blues and purples splashed over her blouse, but all Karia saw was the red. Her sister, the fearless girl she looked up to as a role model, was nowhere to be seen. Tyl wouldn't answer her questions, neither of them willing to accept that Nai was among the corpses mauled beyond recognition as likely as it was-Nai was always a fighter. So they pretended she was just in one of the houses they didn't check, or she had gotten away and simply couldn't come back for them.

That was the start of Karia's big "game of pretend". As they gathered what little they needed for travel, the two siblings were forced to leave the town they grew up in to follow that message they had received with... whatever it was they found in that temple. Tyl was convinced that the strange, anonymous command was trustworthy, and even though she held her doubts, Karia followed. Something else had happened in that temple, something that only Tyl knew about, and she was willing to do everything to keep her big brother from getting hurt.

Weapon: A couple of daggers strapped to her waist, in case of emergency.

Element: Heart

Other: Quick as her temper is, she's also very quick to calm down. When she truly lashes out, the only person to calm her down is Tyl or anyone she can regard with the same level of trust.

Even after two years, Karia has no clue what her element can do. Tyl has nearly mastered his, but not once has she been able to even make a spark of anything. She doesn't say it, but it's a real problem with her.

Sounds cool. Can I ask what your idea for blood is? Their abilities I guess? I'm leaning between Fauna or Blood.

Yes, I was hoping for interest in those!

Blood is an interesting one I chose to add. In the past I was assigned blood in an elemental thread simply because my kid was deathly afraid of anything related to injuries, so back then I thought through enough to allow creativity without making the user overpowered.
Oh, but I'm rambling now... It's basically just what it sounds like-blood manipulation-but with rules. Only blood out in the open or able to be drawn out via wounds or the like can be utilized. So the user can't simply drain a person of blood; the person would have to have a cut or a stab injury first. The user can also make an opening on themselves to take some of their own blood. Blood can be hardened, moved, shaped, etc. It can even be used for healing and closing inflicted injuries that involve blood. Again, creativity is greatly supported!

The elements under the Humanity section are possibly the most complex, so if you're up for a challenge I'd say go for it. If not, then Fauna is fantastic as well. GM is very biased since she has a fiery passion for animals.

So it sounds kind of like the way blood works in Deadman Wonderland. Not sure if you've seen that or not. Either way it sounds interesting and I'm always up for a challenge. So I'll look over making a character sheet for the Blood one then, as much as I too love animals and so was drawn to Fauna because of that.
