    Default {M} {The wolf} Kissing The wolf {In sheep's clothing.}

Werewolves are not what people believe them to be. Some are good, some are evil, and some are even neutral. The moon on this night was red, known as a blood moon. Nothing too special about it, just another moonlit night, but with a reddish glow to it. This night a ruckus was coming from a local night club. It was karaoke night at the night club known as "Wendigo." It was a supernatural themed club hidden from humans as much as the town it resided in. The town was called 'Rast'yu' A small town in the middle of seemingly nowhere. But none of the residents here were human. In fact, there were vampires, ghosts and werewolves and all sorts of other paranormal creatures.
This night a young male, was on stage, with feathered black hair and bright purple eyes, and the females, all of them, seemed to be going crazy over him. Singing a song known to humans, as well as these supernatural folk, as 'Life is Beautiful.' A song by a human band called Sixx AM. He had an awesome voice, and seemed to hit every note just brilliantly. Most of the males in the club appeared to be jealous that all the females had their eyes on him, and not them. His name was known to most of the workers and a few of the guests. And was such a unique name, he spoke it with a type of German accent when saying his name. Axel Van Deriz.

    Joseph H. Conrad

In another part of the country, the night was lighting up. But instead of the bright flashes of a nightclub, this was the dull glow of fire. Mankind had made use of flame ever since it stood up on two legs, both for sustenance and protection, to fend off that which lurked in the night. Now it was being used to bring death to those same lurkers. In particular, it was being used to corral a family pack of werewolves which had been hiding in the depths of the foothills in eastern Tennessee. In comparison to other werewolf packs, they had done their best to remain hidden. But for the past month a hunter had been on their trail. Scarcely a night had gone by where they didn't have to make a run from their current refuge to avoid him.

The pups were scared, as much as the mother tried to calm them. They all knew that the Night Fox was coming for them. In retrospect, the pack leader thought, the cave they had bedded down in had been too good to be true. Hidden at the end of a valley, near water, he wouldn't have minded it as a home in other circumstances. But there was no way to get out except the way they had come in. The pine forest above and around them was aflame, casting a sinister glow into the mouth of the cave. All that there was left to do was to wait for the hunter to-

The shot whipped out of the twilight and caught the father in the throat. He went down writhing on the ground, choking on his own blood even as the silver in the bolt caused his organs to fail. Before he had gone still, a figure was blocking the entrance to the cave, shadow snaking into the darkness further in. A deep throaty growl answered his appearance, trying to mask the whimpers of the pups. The figure was still for a moment before moving away.

The matron blinked and continued watching the cave entrance. Why had the hunter left? He had them right where he wanted them. Half a second later a small object arced into the cave, its metallic surface clanging off the stone as it rolled and bounced until coming to a rest nearby. She tried to shield the pups, but even her strong body was not match for the shockwave of flame and shrapnel. As she rolled over, coughing up red tinged fluid, she saw the shadow return to the cave mouth.

His metal shod boots clacked on the stone as he strolled in, a crossbow in both hands. She tried to reach out to block him, but a boot to the head sent her back against the wall. She could only watch, head ringing and life-force seeping away as one, two... three shots rang out. As much as she wanted to wail, to tear and rend, or even just to move, her body betrayed her and could only sag. As he turned towards her, she managed to choke out the words, "You... Monste-" Then she too had a one bolt between her eyes.

As Joseph walked out from the cave, he holstered one crossbow and dialed 911 on a burner phone, notifying the local fire department of a blaze in the woods. They wouldn't be able to trace the phone or the voice, but they had a location. Even if they found the bodies, hidden in the back of the cave, he'd made sure to disguise the wounds to look like they were fire damage. He was long beyond such rookie mistakes by now. By the time he reached his truck, he was already considering his next move. He'd heard tell of a place called Rast'yu, supposedly where a large population of werewolves had gathered.

It wasn't named that on the map of course. He'd need to track down its whereabouts. He'd also need to gather a team. One family pack, caught unprepared and worn out was easy. But an entire town? He'd need... three or four bodies at the least to back him up. But now was the time. His campaign across the Southern U.S. was reaching its bloody crescendo. He had contacts, suppliers, people that owed him favors, fellow hunters. He could gather them all and finally deal a telling blow against werewolves everywhere.

What's more, he was on the trail of a vendetta. He'd heard rumors that a Dire Wolf, something like royalty in comparison to the average mongrel, had settled in Rast'yu. Considering that the reason for his existence, his loathsome bitch of a grandmother, had been a Dire Wolf, he was going to take his sweet time in killing this target...

Another day of running had been successful she had done it for so many months now her body was used to being run to the ground before being allowed to rest. She had been on the run since she had left Georgia and her “pack” the word sent a metallic taste into her mouth the cross of fear and hatred settling in the pits of her stomach. Shaking out the dirt and leaves from her fur she couldn’t help but smell the gathering of others in the club. Turning a complete circle she takes off back into the forest racing to the top of a hill she had crossed earlier that day.

Standing at the top her ears perked forward her steady blue gaze focused on the night club even with her wolf eyes she could see the waves of lights coming from there. Only thing she wasn’t certain was this a good idea she had to go into the club. Shaking her head she drops her eyes to the ground the mental argument go or not to go. Is it safe or not so safe?
How was she to know if the wolves dancing down there hadn’t been touched by the madness that swallowed her family. She had spent so long running from the pain in her dreams that left her with aching scars. I need the company if only for a hour or two… you can’t risk it what if you smell of madness and someone knows your family? My family was wiped out a month ago so it wouldn’t matter. How do you know no one escaped? I don’t but just an hour won’t kill me. Hopefully. The argument played in her mind until she found herself bolting down the hill.

The downhill was her favorite part or running for just a second she would feel like she was flying away escaping the shadows just long enough to feel the sun before too long she was at the edge of the woods. A small hesitation at the edge with a wary sigh she begins her shift to human. Once human a fatal flaw in her plan she was stark naked with a groan she smacks her forehead and begins rummaging through the bushes. There where shifters here clothes would be around somewhere and she knew that for a fact. Finding a bag she grins and begins dressing herself once she was dressed she did a mental eye roll. Time to face your fear women.

Grumbling she exits the woods pulling stray leaves and sticks from her hair, entering the club with her head high and her cobalt blue eyes set forward. She had heard the music outside but once she entered it was even clearer that this song had a certain call to it almost a lonely cry for something. She needed to stay out of the way and so she picked a chair at the far side of the bar flashing a smile grin when the bartender automatically tossed her a beer. She noticed there were a few wary eyes on her wondering where this rouge had come from, licking her rose petal lips she keeps her eyes low wishing the clothes she found hadn’t been so tight. The black tank top hugged each curve she had and set her pale skin off to a other worldly glow under the club lights, her red hair fell into a wavy mess that made her look feral and even more odd. The jeans skinny jeans with holes in the knees and quite a few other small ones along her muscled thighs. The boots where a soft leather that wrapped her calf to just below the knee. So far keeping her eyes on her beer had worked no one approached her. Yet.

As soon as he hit that last note, and the music ended, he whispered into the microphone, "When you've finally lost it all, that's when you'll realize... that life is beautiful." in his smooth, soft-yet-manly, sexy voice. And thus, he backed up, disappearing into the shadows. The crowd, almost all women, cheering and going wild, screaming for an encore, but just when you thought it ended, more music started up, this time being "Animal I have Become" by Three Days Grace. And guess who would be singing it? Axel, of course, but before he started singing he said "Heard you want an encore, that true??" The crowd screaming and cheering. "Well, alright then." and then started singing that song now.

    Joseph H. Conrad

Another night, another kind of fire. But this time, the fire had no warmth. It was cold and sheer, cast from the luminators scattered around the construction yard. Most of the workers had gone home hours before. Those that had remained wouldn't be going home in anything other than body bags. It was the kind of thing he had been working so hard to prevent, what convinced him that there could be no peace. Most of the bodies were little more than shreds, torn apart in a frenzy. He couldn't begin to tell which parts belonged to which person.

Cocking his crossbow, he edged his head out from behind the steel beam he'd taken cover in. Already in the distance he could hear the sirens. The police, medics, or firemen, someone would be here soon. It was already difficult enough to avoid the authorities without them stumbling right into the middle of a brawl. But his target had gone to ground somewhere in the complex, and he couldn't leave until it had. Even then, he'd need to stash the body somewhere until he could dispose of it.

Making a decision, he turned and began to climb the beam. Rivets and nuts provided easy handholds. Soon enough he had gotten to the third story. Now he could see the flashing red and blue lights crawling through the industrial park and headed this way. Shit. That meant the police. They had guns, which meant they had a slightly better chance of survival. But they also had guns, which meant they could shoot at him. That and their bullets likely wouldn't be effective against his target. They'd probably just piss it off, which meant they'd be dead.

He was pretty sure that somewhere in the federal government there were units dedicated to dealing with the paranormal, but he'd never come across or head of any. Almost certainly local law enforcement would be woefully unprepared for what they were getting into. As he edged along an exposed strut, he cast about looking for his target. His nose was telling them that it was somewhere nearby-SHIT! He dove forward as the beast dropped down from above, banging into the beam in front of him and nearly toppling to the ground far below.

With his crossbow trapped between him and the beam, he could only roll to the side as the beast leaped after him. It caught onto his coat, dragging him towards its gnashing teeth. That might have been it for him, if he hadn't managed to wedge his leg between them, knee pushing back against the beast's chest. His crossbow had been knocked from his fingers, clattering to the concrete down below. He'd need to fix that later, if he lived. His questing fingers finally found what they were looking for, grabbed, and arced upwards.

The beasts gave a horrendous screech and gurgle as the length of silver edged stainless steel arced across its throat. The blood pressure burst from its veins and coated him. He barely had time to turn his head and prevent him from ingesting the fluid. There was no telling what would happen if the filth got inside him. Now he grabbed on to the beast, keeping it from falling as it convulsed and tried to claw at him. His thick clothing repulsed its attempts. Soon enough it went still.

By now the police cars had almost reached the site's gates. He barely had enough time to recover his crossbow and roll the body in a tarp before they flooded the compound. There hadn't been any time to plant evidence. Though there was a regular human serial killer on the loose nearby, so maybe they'd go for that. Somehow he doubted it, but it would give him long enough to remove all traces of himself and his quarry. Perhaps the curious softness he'd felt when pressed against the monster's chest should have bothered him, but he was long beyond such sentimentality.

It didn't matter what gender they were, they'd all burn if he had anything to say about it.

He had gone home to his estate late that night, and had to get up in four hours to start exercising his prized horses. That's right, Horses. One would think a werewolf would always eat such things as horses. But not Axel, he was very different from other werewolves, as far as he could tell anyways. And his horses just knew this, that he wasn't going to hurt them, and he would try his best to keep harm from them as well. Especially Vatalani, one of his favorite mares of ten adult horses and six foals. Eight mares, a gelding, and a stallion. All high quality equines, and all were jumpers.

As he rode on Vatalani's back to do some flatwork and low and medium obstacles to keep her muscles loose and strong, he thought to himself, he couldn't be the last of the Deriz line... there had to be at least one other out there. Most of his family was wiped out, as far as he knew, he was the only one left from what he understood. The palomino mare beneath him snorted as he got her to speed up for one of the higher obstacles. She jumped it flawlessly he stroked her neck, "Good girl..." he said softly as he got her to trot around the fenced-in area. Shortly afterwards, he dismounted, letting her back into the pasture after getting her tack off. He closed the gate behind her and walked back to the house to get some breakfast together but stopped, listening, he thought he heard something, like a snapping twig.

Ashley sat on her old beaten up couch and sighed. She had just moved to a new town and while she didn't mind being alone, she had grown bored of unpacking her things. She was only seventeen, but no one really knew about her. She was off the radar, hidden. She was technically a runaway, having escaped from her foster home a year before. Even her best friend had no idea where she was, which she kind of felt bad about. She hinted, but she never came out and told Lacey where she was.

Ashley glared as her phone went off, and she rolled her eyes. "What?" She answered, and closed her eyes when her ears were greeted by Lacey's loud mouth.

"Where are you? I'm lost!" She yelled, and Ashley clicked her tongue. "I ran away from home, I'm like twenty hours away from my parents, it's dark and I'm freaking out!" She whined and Ashley shook her head. Of course the girl would get herself into trouble yet again, always making her best friend worry.

"Where are you?" Ashley asked, and then huffed when she heard Lacey giggle. "You're not lost, are you?" She asked and growled when the other girl laughed harder. "You annoy me," she said, which only made Lacey laugh again.

"I'm seriously in the middle of no where though, and I did run away from home," she explained and sighed. "But I'm not lost, I'm in a motel waiting for you to come get me and take me back to your place," she told her and Ashley groaned.

"Stay there," Ashley growled, but waited long enough to hear where the other girl was, before she hung up. She sat there, staring off into space. Leave it to Lacey to run away from home, just to see her best friend. She was a weird one, but that was why Ashley was drawn to her. Even if she couldn't act her age, at least she had a friend to show her how sometimes.

She refused to bring her to her knew town, it was too dangerous for a human. The only reason she moved there, was to find the man that turned her, the man that ruined her life. She was a werewolf, and she was going to make the man pay because of it.

Lacey sat outside of the motel, a huge smile on her face. It was pitch dark out, but she didn't care. A couple of people passed by and all she did was wave and say hi. Unaware that she wasn't really that far away from her best friend, she stayed seated like she was told.

"You know, it's pretty dangerous for a girl like you to be out here alone," she heard someone say, and looked around. Her eyes caught sight of a big man, and she smiled at him.

"I'm fine, thank you," she said, her voice polite. The man looked confused, but didn't say anything about it. She was unaware that like her best friend, the man before her was a werewolf. He had every intention on eating her for a late night snack. Of course, he faltered at the fact that she was so nice and unafraid.

"Need a ride somewhere?" He asked her, figuring he'd be safe about killing her. He wanted to do it in private, not for the whole world to see.

"No thanks," she said and stood to her feet. She was a ditz, but she wasn't completely stupid. Just from the way he acted, she knew he planned to hurt her. Contrary to popular belief, she did not want to die young. "Now if you'll excuse me, I'm waiting on someone," she said, her voice a little sharp toward the end. Though as she went to walk back in her room, the man blocked her way.

That was when she knew it was okay to be afraid.

    Joseph H. Conrad

It was five nights after the debacle at the construction sight. The newspaper told him that the police had taken the serial killer route, but a gut feeling told him that they were secretly looking at other options. Word had trickled down the hunter grapevine that search-and-destroy squads had begun to be deployed, and they weren't discriminating between Hunters and Hunted. Both werewolves and the humans which hunted them were under threat. There had been calls for a Great Hunt, the first in over a century and a half. Not since the days of the late civil war had so many Hunters come out of the woodwork. Those had been dark days, but the future looked to be even more black.

He'd been steadily working his way west, picking up equipment and making contact with other Hunters. All of them had been busy. It wasn't just the werewolves which were being stirred up. Ghouls, vampires, and all manner of night creatures were causing havoc. It was getting harder and harder to conceal the Hunting from the general population. There had been many close calls in the past week, such as the construction site. There were simply too many cities, too much urbanization. There were fewer and fewer places for the monsters to hide. Conflict was becoming increasingly inevitable.

Timetables and quotas for extermination across the board were being expanded, and the Hunters weren't getting it all their own way. Casualties were beginning to mount. At first it had just been the new fish, young and over-eager to make a name for themselves. But now even senior Hunters were finding themselves assaulted in their own refuges, hounded constantly by monsters. Now they looked to the experts, like the Night Fox, to take the lead. He had called in some favors, and now he and two dozen other of the most Senior Hunters were set to gather.

They had agreed to meet in a non-descript motel in the heart of the Mid-West, located effectively in the middle of nowhere. In ones and twos, they would converge and meet up, making sure to keep a distance from one another until it was time. Tomorrow night was the night. There were already seventeen Hunters in the motel, and the other six were en-route. Joseph had been staying there for three days, under the pretense of visiting family.

As he was heading back to his room after a night of scouting, he sighted a problem. A young girl was being accosted by an older man. Joseph had had his eye on him for the past three days. It was a Ghoul, a flesh-eater, if he'd guessed right. Probably had a thing for blondes, eating their hearts that was. Just as the bastard was reaching in his coat for a weapon, Joseph made his move. The room Lacey had rented was near one of the alleys in the motel buildings. He swooped out of the darkness, arm extended. Before the ghoul had time to react, Joseph's hand was around his neck. Half a second later, a flash of silver. Then the body crumbled to the ground, not a mark visible. Ghouls weren't his speciality, but he had practiced just to keep sharp.

Turning around, he studied Lacey with warm but hard eyes.

Jessie had ran as fast out of the club as she could the second men started looking at her with interest because she was the one not lost in the melodious trance from the male singer. She shifted as soon as her feet hit the dirt outside shredding the clothes she wore. She was small for a wolf with a soft red over coat but a odd white under coat. What she didn’t know was the males in the club had fallowed her out chasing what they hoped to be a new piece of tail. Growling at herself and her stupid moves she bolt left under the logs and around the brush. Her feet hitting silently she wanted to stop her body pleaded but she couldn’t not with the sound of bumbling beasts behind her chasing her with a eagerness that sent the fear straight to her gut.

She jerked another sharp left and tucked her body under a log trying to remain low and hidden, her ears flicking at the slightest sound, hearing a faint sound of horses only for it to be covered by the sound of panting from three males who had chased her this far. The closer they came the more her body locked up, only one got a inch to close and she went to step back a twig snapping under her paw. Echoing in the silence the males picking up their heads and turning in her direction quickly she backed out and bolted once more this time making a bigger mistake she ran straight under the fence into the field of horses.

As the horse fled at the sight of her the fear deepened and began to settle turning her flee into a no more choices but to fight. Turning her hackles rose as she growled baring her teeth. Three males stepped from under the fence, two males a dark mud brown the other a soft grey. Each one outweighed her by 60 or more pounds, but she didn’t back down. Holding her ground waiting for the males to make the first move she wasn’t as heavy or as strong but she was fast and very precise with her fangs and her claws.

Her tail flicked her annoyance clear causing the first male to strike as the others circled her. Her sent had drove them to chase her this far and now she could see it in the gold of their eyes. Lust, rage and the need to dominate so strong it could push them to insane. As the larger male bolted at her trying to strike a quick blow to her flank the female ducked her small frame going right under him, when she came out from under him she dropped a chunk of meat on the ground, the smell of blood filling the air. Her blue eyes glowing as the males falls to the ground bleeding and the other two begin to growl in rage at the death of their own.

Lacey watched the events unfold in terror, her heart almost beating out of her chest. She gulped and took a step back when the man's body hit the ground, and the first thing she thought of was Ashley. Her eyes scanned the ground until they lifted and came to a stop on Joseph. She stared at him, and when she tried to speak, her mouth went dry. Ashley had kept Lacey from seeing all the gore that came with being a werewolf, so it was a shock for her to see someone kill someone else.

"T-thank you," she mumbled, and glanced toward the ground. "Thank you for saving me," she said, her voice more confident than before. "I think he was going to kill me," she stated, and glanced behind her when she heard a rustle from a bush. She didn't see anything, so she turned back and faced the man. "Maybe I should go inside, probably more safe in there," she said, and slowly backed up toward her door. It wasn't that she was afraid of him, she was afraid of whatever else could be hanging around.

Ashley watched from the bush, her narrow eyes zoned in on Joseph. She was thankful that he saved her best friend, but she knew he was a hunter. She had spent a lot of her time as a werewolf; running from people like him. It wasn't safe for her to go through the front, so she decided to sneak into Lacey's room through the back window.

Once there, she tapped on it three times, and then two more, kind of like a small jingle. It was the knock her and Lacey used to let the other know it was them, it avoided trouble for the most part. The window opened and there leaned Lacey, a smile on her face.

"Come on in," she said, and then turned away to make room. Ashley climbed in, and because she was annoyed with her friend, she made a loud thumping noise, which in turn made the other girl scream. "That was mean!" She yelled and hit Ashley upside the head. "But I love you anyway," she giggled, and then sat down on the old motel bed.

"When do I get to see where you live?" Lacey asked, and tilted her head to the side.

"You don't," Ashley replied, and raised a brow when her best friend huffed.

    "Meanie,"

    "Child,"

    "Bite me,"

"Maybe I will," Ashley said with a growl, and Lacey's eyes widened.

"I love you," she said, and Ashley shook her head.

"The town I live in is too dangerous for you, it's full of the paranormal," Ashley stated, and Lacey grinned. "I know that look! Don't you dare, Lace!" Ashley yelled, but it was too late. The other girl ran out of the room, while yelling 'I can handle danger, just watch!' before she disappeared outside.

Lacey stopped by the road and looked around.

What kind of trouble could she find? She did need it to prove her point, her middle name was danger; after all.
