Personality and Brief Bio: Robert, unlike his wife, was an only child. He learned to read early and his teachers soon realized his talent for memorization and his head for numbers. These talents have a down side, however. He tends to "zone out" when remembering something or trying to work out a problem, and he is very particular about how he likes things to be organized, both of which drive his wife crazy. Naturally he was drawn to a line of work in which he could make the most of his steel trap memory, and he pleased clients and climbed the ladder quickly.

Personality and Brief Bio: Kent was not always the throwback old mountain man he seems to be now. He was once the family rock, a solid provider and steady hand who everyone looked up to. According to Mathilda, he snapped when his wife Emily (Emma's namesake) died of cancer. He kept on about somehow being able to prevent it, and got pretty deep into conspiracy theories. Eventually he decided to get closer to nature, so he sold the family house and built a little three room shack on the bank of the river. Aside from his eccentricities, he seems to be doing better than a lot of the other townspeople, proving that at least he isn't crazy when it comes to finding food.

Personality and Brief Bio: One of Kent and Emily Clark's oldest children, she stepped in to help teach the younger ones. As a teenager she socked away the money she made babysitting to buy her first car herself, and in high school she helped out at the local private owned library. She studied education in college, but ran out of money and was too proud to ask her parents for help, so she made ends meet as a substitute rather than a full teacher. When the owner of the library died, she left it to Helen. It was at the library where she met a shy young man named Eric who kept coming back, eventually admitting that he had fallen in love with her. They were married for a long time before Emma came along, but Eric died in a car accident when Emma was only three and Helen never remarried.

She likes all animals, but since her mother is allergic, she draws pictures of them and makes up stories about them to tell the younger kids.
