    The Fifth Suspension

    Though darkness lingers
    on the fringe
    of my heart,
that which had been denied before
    is starting to believe.

    Love,
which had so ill abused me,
under false pretenses and fake names,
    has come to claim me.

    I give myself absolutely.
    As mindsets begin to shift.

I can't forget the look in your eyes.

    A pre-designed shape,
but my heart is changing its form.
Through the space and care you have provided
    it grows stronger and surer
    of this thing
    we've carved for ourselves.

    This love cannot be abandoned.
This truth that now I stake claim to.

    Loving you is like breathing.

    It's easy
    now

that I no longer think about it.

    I'm not sure
    I ever did

    subconsciously.

    It just
    happened.

    It happens. Every. Minute.

    I love you.

    I love you
    Without thinking
    Without mulling
    it
    over.

    There's no plan
    no intent.

    Just love.

    I just love you.

    And this kind of love
    proves.
    Proves itself
    Effortless.

    Effortlessly
    As I care
    for you.

    Dour Dance

    My heart cracks
    Just a fraction more
    With every unkind word
    You deal me.

    And I break so quietly
    Under the reeling
To contain the tears that well
    Just beneath my eyes.

    And the lips that quiver
Only wanted the ones to match
    To sing such sweet melodies
    Of happiness, my lovebird.

    Glassy-eyed on the train
    To the mere thought
    That someday
    I will lose you

    To the great beyond.

    Scire

    I want to know you.

I want to know what you think of
when I see you glance away.
When I know the cogs are turning
and I know you've gone astray.

    I want to know you.

I want know at what second
that face crosses towards a smile
and bask beneath the glow of it
    clouds disappearing, single file.

    I want to know you.

I want to know all your interests
and when you're embarrassed, give you a shake.
And assure you that you're interesting,
when others made a great mistake.

    I want to know you.

    Sodden Transfixion Infliction (STI)

    Crepuscular rays.

    Your glabella a scrunch.

    I won't die, no.
    Maybe not, without you.
But I certainly will want to.

    If you were life,
    Life support,
    I would breathe through you.
    Through the choked airways,
    Soaked through with frustration,
    Drowning me.
    An IV drip - you,
the color of my blood -
    sustaining me.

    Slap my veins -
    Revive me.

    Dusk filters through the blinds.
    And I,
    I am no longer here.
    No longer with you.

I am gone from this place.

    Your face,
    So still.
    Against the twilight.

In the house where I sit
Is a mausoleum of random shit.
    Dusted, old brick-a-brack,
    Scattered, tattered, knick-knacks.

    And on one old antique,
Lays a lei, oh so sweet.
    A relic, as it were,
    Simply, limply, left for her.

But when the night is hard
    And sleep seems far
I look to the lei with vapid coloration
    As though grayness
    Does not befall full denigration.

I stare at the red, yellow, and the green,
Trying not to focus on the woeful dream,
Drifting off to the sounds of little snores,
    And try to remember,
    To not be so bored.

    The Salt Marshes

It started as a quiet train ride
With a father and his kids
The rumble of the train car
    On a family trip

    And as the train clattered
I heard his voice say soft,
"Girls, look this is the salt marshes,"
    Dried out grass, birds aloft.

And I listened to him recall
A class trip he went when he was young,
A field trip to the salt marshes,
    Birds calling, nature's thrum.

This father with his two girls
    Stared at the rippling lake
"I saw a classmate of mine fall in there,
He took a wrong step, a mistake,

He fell into the salt marshes
And we all tried to giggle, not to jeer.
But he fell into the salty muck,
    Right up to his ear!"

And I covered my mouth politely,
    Turning my head away,
To hide the laughter I felt at his story,
To the recalling of that day.

    Veiny city dressed in gold
    one hundred, five hundred karat
    sixteen year old.

    She's a reckless spender
    full of town-send streets
    ruby red splendor
    cottoned sheets.

    Sapphire eyed beaut
    high in the cloud
    no one's refute
    to her coming down.

    Watching their charred wings
    flicker orange
    in the fading blue dusk.
The darkened black cradle of night.

    Daybreak along the beach
    and those thousand white cranes
    all but gray wisps
    of a dying fire.
