Default Round 2: Magician (Bianca) VS. Druid (Fiona) - Judge Maeve

You find yourself in the in the center of an abandoned amusement park circa 1950.

The grass has overgrown most of the buildings and the pavement is cracked and broken from many years of neglect. The crowds have long been absent and the entire place has an eerie feeling of abandonment and desertion. As if history has passed this place by. The echos of laughter and family merriment have long since faded

The paint on the nearby carousel is cracked and faded from the sun and most of the wooden carved animals are broken and fallen on their sides. Some are actually still intact, but their faces are horribly faded and unrecognizable.

The seats of many of the Ferris wheel carts are twisted and and hanging askew. The rusted metal twisted and lopsided.

Small carnival game buildings dot your peripheral vision. Doors are hanging awry and many are missing boards to the buildings and look ready to collapse with a good gust of wind.

The feeling you get is one of desolation and the distinct sensation that you are being watched. Many eyes are upon you, but from where, you cannot pinpoint.

At the park exit across from you, about 50 feet or so away, stands your opponent.

You both have 2 posts each, and then the Judge will step in for a scenery update. At which point you will each get 5 more posts without interference for a total of 7 each with 72 hours to post in between.

Too open. Not enough Trees. That was Fiona's first thought as she gazed around the area. What was this place? Very little plant life, most of it was dead or dying, from lack of water. They certainly weren't lacking for sunlight. She ran a hand across some of the dead grass that was coming up from the hard ground under her feet. Though it wasn't the cool refreshing earth that she took comfort in. She could feel the earth trying to reach up through the cracks of the concrete beneath her bare feet, like a prisoner sticking there hands through the bars of their cell. She wanted to just start pulling up the rock mixture in order to free the soil beneath from it's imprisonment

Fiona's eyes were drawn in front of her, toward the figure that stood before her. She was short, shorter than even Fiona herself, which wasn't something she ran into often. She stares at the woman for a moment, taking her in, noticing the armor she wore and the weapon that she carried. Was this like the last one? Was she supposed to fight again? Most likely, she concluded. She remembered her past, remembered some of her capabilities. Remembered the destruction she was capable of. She knew she could fight and fight well. Fiona also knew now that fighting meant survival and freedom. The last man she'd faced had chosen not to fight...and well, he wasn't here any more.

Digging her fingers into the small amount of earth that she could reach, she pulled on the power that she held inside of her and caused the plants around the foe before her to grow at an astonishing rate. Grasses and vines growing stronger and faster, breaking apart the rock at the woman's feet and tangling around her ankles and up her calves. Fiona didn't want to use all her power now, just enough to entangle her foe for a short amount of time. Giving the tiny girl enough time to find a more advantageous spot to fight from.

Once the vines had grown enough to hopefully ensnare the short woman, Fiona turned and bolted quickly, like a startled deer, running swiftly across the ground and further into the park, toward the large track that ran along the ground and then up into the air. Near it where some trees and it would allow her to get off the ground. Plus there it looked like, for at least a little bit, this annoying rock gave way to pure earth. She knew she'd feel more comfortable in the embrace of the trees, whether on the ground in their midst or up in the branches.

The smoke from the lava had darkened, her vision going obscure, black. Had she lost? Had she won? Jon, the ranger. Where was he? She coughed as things seemed to vanish from under her exposed toes. Everything was going so dark...

The children were attacking her wall. It hurt, the stone, it hurt. Why couldn't they see it hurt? It's not just rock, she tried to scream. Stop.

Breathe. Bianca inhaled as her eyes blinked against the darkness. Was she moving? The ground was changing beneath her feet. The warmth of the fire stone was turning cold, cold and flat. But why was it so dark?

The children weren't like her. She was always so different from them. The stones, they spoke to her, telling her stories and showing her strange things. She felt her kin hurt it, and each stroke hurt her to the core.

The smoke was beginning to turn to light. More real each time her distinct green eyes blinked against the light, the land in which she had been delivered came into clear sight. As her eyes adjusted, Bianca felt small along a world of giant structures, a twig underneath a giant sky. Dwarves weren't meant to be underneath open sky; she felt a tightening of her heart muscles as she missed the security of her burning cave.

She didn't have time to say anything to the creature. The creature wasn't human, couldn't be further from. A wood-Druid, she knew, from some long memory long buried. Those who flew among the trees and protected their forest, a rare being in the world she had forgotten, as happy in the trees as she was surrounded by hard stone. Life and stone, Bianca considered, her short stature firm against the stone they stood on. Complete opposites, but, so similar. It wasn't a moment after she had started her reflective thoughts, burying the feeling her memory was locked away and screaming to be released, that the Druid was moving, reaching into the earth with aggressive eyes focused on her.

The dwarf wanted to call out to the creature, ask her to calm, to talk to one who seemed so familiar. Instead, the earth began moving. Bianca felt the dirt flowing with an energy that wasn't her own or the earth's quiet force before she saw the leaves wrap themselves to vines and the roots of the lost trees come to the surface to attack. Attack.

I don't want to hurt anything.

As soon as the thought crossed her consciousness, it was gone, vanished into the smoke just like the rest. Instead of dwelling, the dwarf took a breath. She slid the intricate and keen-edged axe from her low-slung belt, she paused, looking at the vines around her feet, eyebrows furrowed and green eyes fiercely calm. As slowly as the Druid was fast, Bianca slid the blade under the vines, cutting each soft life form, she gradually made her way free, emerald eyes surveying the lands as she stood. To the lulls of the metal structure creaking at its tallest points, the doors on rusted hinges singing a high song, the concrete slowly cracking where buildings once stood. The stone wasn't stone, she knew, cutting the final blade; but it offered some source of power.

Moving forward to the old structure, small and sure steps, Bianca began drawing what power she could from the earth, the golden warmth radiating on her skin like one thinks they see shimmering on a slick road on a hot day; there, but not there at all. Bianca, for all her attention, couldn't shake the strange feeling that there was more than the little forest pixie here.

Having covered the space between where she started and the little vegetative area underneath the metallic structure swiftly, Fiona dodged into the trees that sat at the base of the structure. The spot was perfect. It gave her cover behind the small trees. It had bare earth. She could feel the living pulse, with the earth under her bare feet, now that she was away from the rocky ground. It had the large structure with crisscrossing beams of metal, an easy thing to climb as the beams were placed regularly.

Here she felt comfortable. Here she felt connected to the nature that she held so dear. Above her head some where a bird chirped a song and her connection to the wild creatures felt renewed some what slightly. Like how the mouse in her cell made her feel safe, despite feeling nothing of the rest of nature. Satisfied with her new location she took the opportunity to further observe her opponent.

The tiny girl peaked her head around the tree she'd hidden behind, her bright, wide green eyes peering out at the dwarf as she moved toward her with slow deliberate steps. As the dwarf drew closer, Fiona noticed a shimmering that seemed to be coming off her skin. Curious eyes and calculating gaze watched, waited, trying to gauge what the dwarf's intent was. Fiona truly didn't wish to fight, but she also didn't want the fate her last opponent had. Fiona wished to survive. She hadn't given up her mortal life to have her immortal one taken from her so soon.

Then there were her memories. Memories of a burning field of flowers. It had been her power that had done that. She that had cause the field to burn with just a thought...and so easily too. But why? Why had she destroyed the life that had grown there? What had she burned the nature that she'd been so connected to? She remembered being upset, angry and watching the field go up in flames. But she also remembered feeling a joy at knowing her power. At knowing that she'd been right. At knowing how easily she'd called down the heat from the sun to burn the plants.

As she watched the dwarf came with in feet of her little hiding spot. "Don't come any closer. Otherwise next time the plants won't be easy to break free from." She called out to the dwarf. Her voice was strong, confident, yet the shimmering of the dwarf's skin gave her pause. What was the shimmering? Was it some hidden power of the dwarf's? Something that could cause her trouble? She didn't want the dwarf to come close enough for her to find out. Fiona didn't like surprises. She didn't like it when things didn't go in her favor.

Bianca kept walking, eyes sharp for the movements of her little squirrel forest companion. The glinting feral eyes weren't what made her bare feet tense against the hard man-rock; it was the ever-present feeling of more than them. Something worse than the little one barely larger (and probably lighter) than herself.

And, as the breeze moved the old scene, Bianca had an idea.

"It was black, just a whisper ago," Bianca didn't want to talk loudly, scare the little one away. Her voice carried like foreign bells, dancing with a song. "You thought you remembered something, but then it was gone. I thought I remembered years ago, but it's in a fog now. It's gone. All you think of is fear, and fear means fighting.

    Don't be afraid, old one."

A slight breeze begins to blow. Soft and warm, perfect summer temperature. Not to hot, not too cold, but comfortable. You feel it's soft caress against your skin.

Just as you begin to plot your next move, there is unexpected movement and noise off in the distance. You strain your ears to hear it, but can't quite place it. Yet.

One by one, the old rides and amusements are coming back to life. The lights are slowly flickering on. The individual rides starting to begin their careening through their tracks. The games are spinning. All of their own accord, it would seem as there is no one in attendance but you, and your opponent in this park.

The wail of the amusement rides is ghostly and seems to be bordering on the edge of insanity, as they spin faster and faster. The horses on the carousel careening around and around. Wilder and wilder they spin. The bell from the strong man competition ringing in continuous distraction. Ding. Ding. Ding. Ringing too quickly for anyone to be actually playing the game with the large mallet. Which upon inspection, is resting idly beside the base.

The Ferris wheel, some of it's carts broken and hanging is also beginning its slow turn. The seats are empty, but the lights are on and the music is shrieking. The pitiful and ancient neon lighting casting an eerie glow throughout the grounds.

The entire park, decrepit and aged is somehow, alive.

Fiona narrowed her eyes and listened as the dwarf continued in her direction while talking to her. She told her to stop coming closer. She'd warned her. Fiona didn't like it when people didn't listen to her. And how did the dwarf know about the memories. How that most of her past was one giant fog? And that her first memory was only remembered recently? But her last words caused Fiona to pause. She called her old one. She knew what she was. She knew that she was a druid and from her voice it sounded almost...respectful.

Fiona was about to call back out to the dwarf, when loud noises, flashing lights, and music that probably should have been cheerful, but was instead incredibly creepy in the quiet evening air with nothing else besides the sounds of the rides. At first the rides were slow in their movement, but they continued to speed up until they were going at increasingly insane speeds. The roller coaster on the track near her shot be at increasing speeds. The beams that helped up the track shaking every time it came near to her spot. Her eyes darted every which way distracted by the lights and sounds, before she finally turned her gaze back on to the druid.

"What did you do?!" She called out angrily to the dwarf. It had to be the dwarf who started the machines going. That shimmering she was doing earlier, it had to have been some kind of magic that had brought the machines to life and it wasn't her. So that left only the dwarf in front of her. She had to be the one who caused it. "Stop it! Stop it!" Fiona said as she stepped out from behind the three and stomped her small foot in a childish manner. "Stop the machines and stop coming closer!"

As she stood there, her feet were spread defensively and her staff held loosely in one hand by her side. The breeze that fluttered through the trees, stirred the mess of hair that fell around her shoulders. In front of the Druid, tree roots jumped into the air at her bidding. Weaving together in order to form a barrier between her and the dwarf at about shoulder height. It wouldn't stop her, but it would take effort to go around or to go over.
