Location:Route 35 ---------> National Park
He shrugged and continued pressing forwards weaving through the path leading up to the park. A couple sat on a bench along with a few other trainers battling it out against eachother but Hiru paid no mind to them. He was heading directly for the next building. He wanted to catch the pokemon and upon glancing at his watch earlier, it was a great day and he would be just in time.
The Bug catching contest that had run for many many years was before them in the next building. They held it twice a week. Tuesday's and Thursdays were the days to be there. He stopped before the building and looked back to Tristan.
"If you want to know I don't mind telling you. It's just kinda scary for me, and was for my family. And I'd love to hear your stories as well. I like stories you know." He grinned and stopped at a building. The building itself looked like a park rangers station but was equipped with the essentials for a contest.
"The Route here, is pretty full with bug pokemon of all kinds. To the right over there." He said as he pointed to a large grassy path leading off towards a set of thickened trees.
"Is where the bugs are, and theres some Drowzee's.... Oh!" He pointed to what looked to be a yellow pokemon just below a tree sleeping it's day away.
"Theres also Abra! And theres Caterpie, Weedles! All kinds of things!" He jumped with excitement but looked inside to see a group of trainers building up as they readied themselves for the contest.
"But I want whats through these doors. The contest people put out some weird pokemon fruit thing twice a week for the contest and it draws out a few other pokemon aside from the normal ones here."
Tristan chuckled. The kid sure did talk a lot. Not that it was a bad thing, of course.
I'd actually like to hear your story, if you don't mind. He didn't want to be too persistent on the subject. However, the boy had insisted to tell him, and he was bound to listen. He looked up at the gaping building in front of him. It seemed like a building prepared for contest of some sort - probably that bug contest or something.
I've never heard of a... Drowzee?... before. I've heard of Caterpie and Weedles, but mehh.... He held off on talking more, as he just felt his words get more awkward.
He paused and looked back to Tristan just before they entered the building and stared at him. Hiru blinked and perked up upon hearing his comment on the organizations.
"Sorry! I didn't hear you. Don't be mad, I'm sorry I get excited and I miss stuff all the time. It's a bad habit you know?"
Hiru was bad when it came to paying total attention but he also knew it was from him getting overly excited all the time over nothing. The boy sighed feeling defeated by completely missing what Tristan had said. He hated his excitement some times but could never keep his self in control of his energy. It had always been explosive and filled with excitement about the world.
Tristan looked around. There seemed to be a lot of preparations being doing for this area and the other areas beyond that. However, when he looked at Hiru after he'd said what he said about him not hearing, he thought that Hiru looked defeated.
Hey, man, don't feel bad. Stuff happens. I was probably talking soft, anyway. Tristan's chuckling had seized; he was being quite serious with Hiru. Despite this, he still held a smile towards the young man.
Might as well get my business face on; this is going to be a fun talk.
The boy thought for a moment on the organizations subject staring up into the sky as if it would give him the answers he looked for.
"Criminal Organizations? Only ones I've heard of is Team Rocket. My cousin thought it was a great idea to join them. Come to find out he ended up being used and turned into an expendable. Gave his all for the group and ended up back at our home crying his eyes out saying he wanted out." He frowned at the thought of the matter and shrugged.
"I'd love to hear you out on the organizations tho. It could help me in the future. I'm not really a trainer and would rather breed but you know. It could come in handy in some form of way."
He listened to Hiru as he described what he had said about his cousin being in Team Rocket. Tristan grew a little interested.
I'm actually interested in hearing more about your cousin, but that's probably a story we could save for later. He prepared his thoughts for what Hiru was about to hear.
Pretty much, for the past couple of weeks, I've been assaulted by different criminal organizations. Tristan shook his head.
It all started when I shut down Team Magma, which is a criminal organization native to Hoenn, in a town called Rustboro City.
He tried to think about what else had happened.
When I further progressed through the region, I came upon a scientist in a certain town named Fallarbor Town. He was being beaten near to death for God knows what. Even Tristan was uncertain about why that man was being voraciously beaten.
Beyond that, I went home that night, and then went back that morning. The scientist was in intensive care or whatever. He told me that I was being spied on, and then turned insane. He physically began to shake, but he took a deep breath to calm himself down.
After that, I heard a loud sounding drill from the other side of the wall, and within moments, the wall was torn down. The last fricken things I saw before I teleported away was a Rhyhorn followed by a bunch of people behind it. The Rhyhorn started up its drill and began to bring it to the scientist. He shook his head once more. He hoped that Hiru, though young, would be able to assume what came from the man.
So, yeah. I don't know if they're just after me, or if they're after all ringers, but I told all of the ringers I knew just in case.
Hiru nodded when Tristan spoke of not hearing of a Drowzee.
"They're pretty neat, it's a psychic pokemon. Pretty common in Kanto and Johto. They're really good when it comes to Hypnosis and Dream eater along with other Psychic moves. My dad had one at one point to help me sleep, but traded it away for Vulpix. It was sad to see him go but yea, he evolves into another psychic pokemon, that one looks more like an old man tho. Drowzee looks similar to a yellow fat man wearing brown pants." Hiru paused as he thought of ways to explain Drowzee but fell short on the description.
"They also have funny looking noses like a trunk of sorts."
The boy pictured the pokemon at his home standing beside him as he went to sleep. He laughed at the thought of the Drowzee's appearance every night. It was something that always made him laugh no matter how many times he thought of. Through out the small talk he felt comfort in Tristan's words when he said it was all fine that he didn't hear him and he probably just spoke soft. He felt the defeat lift away and continued on.
Hiru shrugged when he said he was interested in hearing the story of his cousin.
"I wanna hear your story, on the organizations first!" He spoke aloud eager to learn. He knew his adventures could get troubling and this was something that seemed all to interesting and important for him to hear especially if he was planning on traveling more.
Intrigued by the tale of the scientist, Hiru looked confused when he finished it off with the Rhyhorn.
"I hope he's ok...." Hiru spoke with sadness in his voice. It sounded terrible that the scientist had such a hard time and he didn't quite process the matter of death in his mind and over looked it rather easily. Hiru also felt the ache that the pokemon probably felt being used for such evil tasks but he did know that strange actions could change a pokemon's thoughts on the matter.
His expression although sad still held a little light in it as he shook it off and nodded at his words.
"Well if they show up around me then I'll do my best to fend them off. Maybe I can get an Abra at some point for teleportation situations!" He paused then looked down at his watch blinking.
"Although I can just use my watch to teleport can't I?" He frowned at the matter and wrinkled his nose. Regardless of the matter, he would enjoy having an Abra anyways. He always thought they were cute in their own weird way.
Hiru soon perked after a moment of thought and looked back to Tristan.
"Oh right my story!"He said and opened up the doors to the building stepping inside, assuming that he would be followed. There were many trainers and bug catchers around them and it did seem a bit crowded but he didn't mind. Nobody really listened to his story anyways. And the contest was going to begin soon anyways.
Glancing down to Pi who held his leg tightly in fear of the other people around, Hiru picked up Pi's pokeball and held it out to her.
"Here Pi why not get in the pokeball for now. Theres a lot of people around and I'm sure it's frightening." Pi, in return looked as if she was just offered the deal of a lifetime and quickly tapped the button on the pokeball only to be quickly sucked in. If one looked inside the tinted red of the ball they could see Pi resting in relief to the matter. Hiru also did the same with Chu-Chu putting her back in the ball as well before turning back to Tristan.
Though not many seemed interested in his story, Tristan did giving Hiru little doubt about speaking up in the subject. Taking a quick breathe and exhaling heavily, he began his story.
"Well, around three or four years ago. When I was a bit younger, we had a few rich people come into Viridian, they were looking to buy out some land but were quickly shut down. They place had been that way for many many years and the Gym leader took no interest in changing it. Just before they left, they explored the forest and I happened to be there, just in the middle of the forest. I was working on healing a caterpie at the time."
Hiru paused and thought back to the time trying to remember every detail clearly as possible.
"When asked about what I was doing alone in the forest I just told them the truth and said I was healing the Caterpie. At the time I was able to heal I think 20% of their health. It wasn't much but it healed surface cuts for the most part. A large scratch would turn into a little one and so forth. But they didn't believe me and only laughed. Being the little kid I was, I got upset and told them I'd prove it."
He paused once more and took a deep breathe. It was just the beginning. But the next part was where things began to bother him when he thought of it. Yet he continued his story ready to just get it out of his mind.
"We found another pokemon and I did the same to it. They weren't that injured but it was clear they had been in a fight. The people watched as me and the pokemon connected on a mental level. Which is where I enter their thoughts, kinda like what you saw me and Pi doing just before."
Hiru seemed to be getting into the story now, but one could tell he seemed a bit un-easy when it came to the next part of the story.
"Well, when they saw what I could do, they freaked out. Said that wanted the power for their own and demanded that I give them the power. When I said I couldn't they began shouting and getting violent with their words, So I ran. It was a scary time and I really didn't like it. But they followed me home and I hid inside telling my mom about it. She was furious on the matter but the men were gone when she got to the door."
Hiru frowned and took yet another sigh trying to collect himself as he thought of the way he was yelled at before. They treated him as if he were a toy and didn't deserve the power he had. But Hiru shrugged off the pain in his mind and continued. If he was this far he might as well finish the tale. It ended well anyways.
Taking one more breathe, he nodded in agreement with himself.
"Anyways... The following day, the man who shouted at me appeared at my door, offering my mother a few thousand dollars to give them my powers. When she refused they got angry and upset offering her more money. Once again they were refused and instead they yelled at her. She shouted back, and they changed the entire thing to offering the money to just borrow my powers for a little bit. It was scary watching them shout back and forth. But my dad showed up. It was really cool watching him show up."
When Hiru began speaking of his dad he bounced with a bit of excitement.
"When he showed up the men saw my mother of no use and went straight to the father with the same deal. He also refused the matter and when they began to get frustrated with him, he threw out his pokeball and out came his prize pokemon Lee!" He grinned at the thought of it.
"Lee is a Hitmonlee and I got to watch the pokemon kick the men around the city until they left. It was fun to watch and made me feel better. Ever since then I've wanted one of those as well. But that can wait until later. They're hard to find and hard to catch when you do stumble upon one."
Hiru calmed himself as he finished his tale and nodded.
"And thats my story what happened. Interesting huh?" He asked grinning. Clearly he had some remorse on the matter and even some pain in his heart/mind on the situation but he wouldn't let it show. Being he was back to his bouncy self once again.
Vulpix? That's a really neat Pokemon. Tristan thought back to Reedah, who had been his second Pokemon. He briefly glanced down to her pokeball as he relaxed in comfort of the knowledge that she was still there for him after so long of a time.
I guess I need to dabble in Psychic Pokemon as well if I'm to get better as a trainer. Tristan thought and spoke intelligently, signifying his need to better himself.
On the subject of his story, Tristan sighed and shook his head, though being careful as to show that he wasn't upset or disapointed with Hiru..
You probably wouldn't need an Abra, I don't think. They're useful, but we have the ringwatches as well, which pretty much have the same purpose. Tristan didn't have the heart to tell the kid that the scientist wasn't going to be alright. He thought back to how badly he had been beaten to a pulp in that alleyway and shivered.
Tristan turned to his Lucario before the story began.
Prime, do you wanna hear this, or nah? Prime shrugged, as if telling Tristan that he didn't care either way. Tristan made an equally diplomatic shrug.
Figured I might as well ask. Why don't you walk next to me, man? No ned to be afraid - you know that. Tristan had only said something because of the fact that Prime had seemed to be interested in the ongoings with the event, and he wanted to keep him focused. Prime sensed this and walked by Tristan's right side.
He listened quietly as Hiru told his tale. He wanted to give him as much space to tell his tale, that is, until Tristan knew that he was completely finished. When he was, Tristan spoke.
I guess you probably didn't show anyone else your powers again, yeah? Then, Tristan thought of something else to say.
So, why would he tell me straight out, then?
Tristan frowned.
Why did you tell me that you were a healer, then? Did you, like, trust me that much over just our 20 minute conversation? Tristan didn't mean to be confrontational, and he attempted to bring a better reflective nature to his question. he didn't want to upset the kid, as he was slowly turning into a friend.
Hopefully he'll be understanding.
That actually sounds like a little bit of my back story. But... I donno. I don't think I'm comfortable with telling it, yet. I'm sorry. Hiru hadn't even asked, but Tristan didn't wanna scare the child. There are only a few, select people in this world that you can trust, and Tristan didn't want to relay that unto the kid just yet. Out of the corner of his eye, Prime shook his head, as if Tristan should have told Hiru. He looked at Prime.
Should I tell him? He nearly whispered the words. Hiru seemed to be in his own realm at the moment, but he didn't know if he'd heard the words. Prime again shrugged, leaving Tristan a bit confused.
Hiru nodded at his words of the Vulpix. It really was a great pokemon to his knowledge. The one they had was really fun and playful with Hiru.
"Yea it's a wonderful pokemon was one of the best we had for a while before my dad had to leave for some meeting with the pokemon fan club. They're travelling somewhere I just don't know where, I hope to meet up with him one day"
He listened to Tristans words about getting an Abra and how it wouldn't be needed to teleport because of the watches yet Hiru still wanted the pokemon just for the sake of having it.
"They may serve the same purpose but at the same time one would be cool to have. And if you evolved it into Alakazam it'd be even better. They're really strong and powerful pokemon if you train them right. Or so the book I read told me so."
It wasn't much, but Hiru seemed proud of his knowledge in pokemon even tho most of his came from the books and other people in his fathers Pokemon club matter. Part of him assumed he sounded crazy for believing what he read. Yet it mattered none to him. He would still use his knowledge that he had on pokemon to become a grand Breeder much like his entire family.
Hiru looked over to Prime seeing his expressions compared to the other pokemon and the people. He took note of it but decided to keep the matter to himself. Prime seemed to keep to himself when it came to Hiru so he knew the trust wasn't there and would only come when Prime was ready. But none the less the boy patted the pokemon's arm gently. He then gave the pokemon a smile and nodded.
"I know you don't trust me much but it's all gonna be ok! I promise."
In Hiru's mind he didn't believe the pokemon would listen to him and would only listen to Tristan but he could only try, maybe it might gain some form of trust between the two. Or at least he hoped. The boys followed the two through the room exploring with his eyes trying to keep close so he wouldn't lose sight of them and get lost in the crowd.
After Tristan asked him about showing his power off he shrugged shaking his head.
"Nope kinda keep it to myself unless theres someone who looks trusting to me. You're one of the very few I've told since then and it always worries me the past will repeat but you know, what can one do yea?"
His eyes looked up to Tristan as he asked about his trust in him over the small conversation the two had.
"Well good people get good things right? And you didn't seem like you wanted to harm me, so why not? If you did have intentions on doing something of that sort you would have done it by now, and we have these fancy watches right? I could easily poof away."
He grinned at his grand scheme if things went south. It could always end up bad and who knows it might even back fire for telling his ideals to another but he didn't believe it to be dangerous so continued on
. "And if all else fails, I can just drop the watch and run off right? The book said it was for me only, so I don't think you could make use of the watch anyways."
Hiru changed the subject afterwards when Tristan said he didn't feel like telling him the story of his own tales. He opened up to him so why couldn't he get the same in return? It pondered his mind but was quickly shoved away by his energetic attitude.
"Thats ok! You can tell me when you're ready, I know it's hard some times. Even harder when theres problems in the past and one doesn't want to tell others. I can understand that really."
The boy continued looking around completely oblivious to the short conversation between Prime and Tristan, he seemed interested in the story but at the same time he was excited just to have a friend nearby him. It would be one of many friends on this long adventure to his hopes. Hiru would become someone who was good at pokemon breeding in all forms. Each Region will have some adventure for him and he could always breed in different areas.
Pokemon Fan Club? Tristan looked at Prime, who continued to give his attention to his loyal trainer.
Wasn't that in that one town next to the port in Hoenn? Prime smiled at him and nodded. He seemed to remember better than Tristan could.
Interesting.... He was still slightly surprised that the pokemon could easily pick up on his thoughts.
He had previously thought that Lucarios could only read emotions and auras coming from a person, but mabye the connection was different for Prime and Tristan. Tristan decided to remark on it.
I think there was a fan club of some sort in Hoenn. Pretty sure I passed it up, but there was a big club there. He hoped that he could shed some light on the situation.
Tristan audibly laughed out loud when Hiru assumed that Prime didn't trust Hiru.
I promise, man, that I don't think that's what it is. He attempted to reassure the young trainer in the hopes of easing his fears.
I just think that, seeing that Prime is an extremely intelligent Pokemon, he'd like to retain some of his privacy. The Lucario nodded in agreement, as if Tristan had reversed roles with the smart Pokemon and read his mind for once.
Tristan chuckled once again at Hiru's plan.
I guess that would work. I'm glad that you can trust me, though. Makes me feel good, I guess. Tristan didn't really know how else to respond, as the kid seemed to have it worked out.
Just don't get into a fight with another ringer. I donno how many new ones there are, but just be weary. Never know what could happen, you know?
He shook his head.
I don't really think it's ready yet. He thought back to it. He felt like it would take months to finish it, as if he'd procrastinate telling the whole thing and then get a burst of energy and tell the rest. He shook his head again, seemingly at himself.
However, through all of this, Tristan was getting a little restless. He felt like he needed to get back to getting gym badges before getting back to the Village of Protecting Time. He did want to participate with Hiru in this contest, though. He'd never done anything like it. He asked,
ready to get involved in this contest, Hiru? in an inquisitive manner, so as to get the ball rolling.
Hiru listened when Tristan spoke of the one in Hoenn. He'd never been to the area but assumed he wasn't lying. His father did speak to him tales about how theres plenty of Fan clubs around the world, at least one in every region. But it still made Hiru perk up with excitement.
"One in a port? That sounds awesome! A fan club right by the sea!" He paused for a moment before thinking then blinked.
"Well Kanto has one in Vermillion. So that ones by the sea."
He paused at the thought for a few minutes as he tried to remember the location of all of the ones his father spoke of.
"I know theres one here in Johto but I have no idea where. I'd love to visit tho, I think it'd be really nice." He spoke looking to Tristan as if he knew he'd have the answer to his questioning on the location.
Hiru didn't believe he would know but hey it was a shot for one and may work in the end. None the less he skipped right onto the next subject about Prime's trust. The boy only shrugged with a slight frown in acceptance.
"Privacy is a thing that most pokemon enjoy. I just thought it'd be cool to-" His words paused as he realized he was pushing the matter once more.
"I understand, I do apologize for being pushy. It's just really exciting you know?" He grinned widely nodded in acceptance to the matter.
A short moment passed as he heard Tristan speak of getting into the contest causing him to bounce with excitement
. "Oh right the contest! I almost forgot!" He quickly rushed over to the man standing just before them assisting others with joining the contest. Hiru waited his turn patiently until he was the next person.
"Why hello there young man. Will you be taking part in our event today?" The man spoke with a smile leaning over and peering down at Hiru's small figure. The boy bounced in response with excitement once more. "Yes sir! I wanna partake in the contest." The man nodded handing Hiru a form and then glanced to his pokeballs on his side.
"Well just fill out this form and please choose one." He spoke and held his hand out with a single finger up to back his words. "Pokemon to take on your contest adventure. We only allow one pokemon per trainer inside the contest grounds. It eliminates trainers from using more then one pokemon and helps us keep everything organized. Now, you may leave all but one pokemon with us, or there is a transfer machine over there." He paused for a moment to point out the PC with the compartment for pokemon storage. "Where you can place them in a box and store them there for now."
Hiru looked to his pokemon and nodded glancing back up to the man. He of course didn't know that was a thing but shrugged softly.
"Well, I'll leave them with you!" He said with a grin and quickly filled out the form. It was nothing more then asking for the name and the pokemon being used so it was filled out quickly. Hiru only paused at the pokemon and shifted to the side. "One moment please!" He spoke and quickly began looking at the balls on his bag strap pulling each one out of the clip.
As he looked at each pokemon through the ball he stared them down and frowned. He wanted to take Pi but she would feint quickly dealing with pokemon over five whole levels. He then eyed Chu-Chu and shook his head quickly grabbing his Unown(!) and frowned looking to the fear in Pi's eyes through the ball.
"I'm sorry Pi, this is only for a short time but I don't want you to get hurt."
With the finish of his sentence he finished the form and held up the other four pokeballs to the man who seperated them from the rest placing them into a box with Hiru's name on it. He then gave Hiru 20 of the Sport balls and nodded. "Alright we'll be starting soon please wait for the announcement and enjoy." With that Hiru moved away from the man and peeked into the pokeball and jumped.
"Oh right. I never named you did I?" He asked and grinned.
"Alright I shall call you...." He paused with his thoughts and then nodded in agreement.
"Void. I shall call you Void." Hiru's next motion was to toss the small pokemon out of it's ball watching as the shap took form. He grinned widely and patted the pokemon's point.
"Alright so you're ready?" The pokemon responded with a blank stare almost as if it was asking if he was serious or not. But complied with the boy as it floated at his side it's body waving in the air.
Tristan nodded to Hiru's comment, smiling all the while.
I'm sure that there's one in every region.. except for Orre. Tristan had never really thought about it before, but he didn't really care too much. He didn't feel it was worth his time to visit fan clubs. Why not just become a trainer instead?
Oh, duh. Yeah, we should probably sign up for the contest. He looked at his faithful Lucario, who had been at his side for the past few minutes.
Sorry, Prime. I'm probably gonna need to be on my own for this one. Prime nodded as Tristan pulled out his individual capsule and recalled Prime back into it.
After doing so, he noticed that Hiru was already purchasing his contest pass.
Don't wanna be left behind, I guess. He walked up in the middle of the conversation between the man and Hiru and saw that Hiru had a form.
Hello, Sir.. Can I have one, too? Tristan wanted to be as polite as possible, as he didn't know how formal of an event this would turn out to be.
The man at the counter quickly responded in kind.
Absolutely! Here is a form. Please fill this out and chose one Pokemon through your adventure. He then explained similar rules to Tristan. He thought for a moment.
Should I really trust this stranger with my Pokemon? I don't want anything bad happening to them.
This was all new, all foreign to Tristan. He'd never considered doing something like this, but he felt a mild source of enjoyment already within himself - the tournament hadn't even started yet.. He snapped back to reality and considered the man's words.
I'll give them to you, but they'll be guarded, right?
The man laughed. [Bb]Of course! We wouldn't want anything to happen, now would we?[/B] Tristan felt uneasy about the man's words, but heeded them nonetheless. Tristan withheld the pokeball for Reedah and simultaneously gave him the other five balls. He put them in a similar carrier to Hiru's as Tristan received the 20 Sport Balls he had left on the counter.
He walked away towards Hiru, watching as he named his Pokemon.
I wonder what that Pokemon is. Isn't it an.... Unknown? Tristan took this time to call out Reedah. The beautiful nine-taled fox spiraled out of the simple pokeball, creating a glory and splendor unparalleled by nothing else. Tristan was happy that he'd chosen her.
He looked at Hiru.
I donno how I feel with letting them watch over my Pokemon, man. Kinda sets me on edge. He made sure that the comment wasn't loud enough for everyone to hear.
Think we can trust these guys?
Hiru excitedly looked at his Unown ready to get everything ready. His new friend had decided to partake in The conest as well which excited him more. While he wasnt the best at catching pokemon and it was a new adventure to him he knew it would be an exciting one.
His eyes averted to Tristan as he brought out his pokemon for the contest making Hiru's eyes light up with excitement.
"A Ninetails?!" He stared in awe at the pokemon.
"Its so pretty!" Hiru moved closer to the pokemon and examined it closely. It was an interesting pokemon and he loved the coat of fur it had on it.
"Such a pretty coat it has. You should enter it into a beauty contest! It would win for sure." He seemed rather sure of himself and acted as if he knew what he was talking about regardless of not being in a contest before.
When asked about the man keeping the pokemon Hiru nodded with acceptance.
"Yea, my dad used to do these contests all the time. He would tell me about the stories all the time! And he never once mentioned them getting taken away or anything." He grinned with excitement and nodded.
"Besides you have such a pretty ninetails! It could easily get them back right?!"
A loud screech noise was heard across the intercom in the room as everyone looked towards the source of the noise. Standing upon a large stool, a man towered over the group of people. There was clearly a group of about twenty people maybe more. They each looked up at the man with hopes as he began. Hiru on the other hand bounced back and forth looking between Tristan and the man.
"Welcome everyone! We are here today with the weekly Bug catching contest! We are glad you've all made it out today and will partake in the contest. Today! We will be judging the contest on two different stats! The amount of pokemon that you catch is it's own reward. Now as usual, you may only keep one! Thats right one! of the pokemon you have captured. All the others will be returned to the park for the next contest! We thank you for your appreciation on that and welcome you to the next motion. The winner of this contest will receive a prize of
500 pokedollars!."
The man paused at his statement as he let the crowd discuss for a moment. He would of course continue from there. "The second place winner shall receive
300 pokedollars. And finally! Third will receive
100 pokedollars. Anyone else will be allowed to keep one of their captured pokemon."
Once again, the man paused his words and watched the groups discuss between each other. It was clearly a good deal in their eyes and the contest man knew it. He held a grand smile ahead and nodded. "Alright! Now onto the second contest stats! We will be judging the Size and Weight! The person with the largest pokemon shall be claimed as winner of the contest! This person will also receive a 1st place Ribbon and 10 Pecha Berries. 2nd place! Will recieve 5 Pecha Berries. And finally 3rd! will receive 1 Pecha berry. All others will be allowed to keep one of the pokemon they have captured."
As he finished the man smiled at the crowd watching as they grew with excitement. They were clearly ready and waiting on the contest to start. Once again he raised the mic. "Alright, the contest begins in Five! That's right Five minutes! Everyone will have Thirty minutes to catch as many as they can with the 20 Sport Balls provided. Also remember! If your pokemon feints! That's game over and you will be directed to the waiting room for the contest to end! Now enjoy your time with the contest and have fun!"
.
The time would pass rather quickly and a bell sounded. The noise was confirmation that the park was open to the event and quickly one could see the doors leading to it would open up wide and trainers began filing their way out rushing to catch the first pokemon.
At the finish of the man's words, Hiru bounced with excitement and bolted out the doors with the group of people. Checking only to see if Tristan had followed.
"Did you hear that? We get money! And berries. And we get to keep a pokemon! isn't it great?" He grinned widely ready to get this going. Now he had stories to tell his own father when he met up with him again.
He was excited to catch pokemon and get his own capture. His first capture actually. It was then he paused in his excitement and came to a realization. His motions stopped as he stood still, his mind now rushed with great worry the more he thought of the matter.
Hiru didn't even think about it until this point in time and thought everything was a breeze. He had assumed the path to the top was going to be a simple one where he had no problems. Could catch pokemon without a second thought.
Up until now, it did seem easy. This was his first capture. It was the first time he would ever have to catch a pokemon on his own and not to mention he'd never really been in a
real pokemon battle aside from the mission situation even then it was by pure luck he completed those.
Hiru waited for his new found friend to catch up with his excitement only to look up him with a slight worried look in his eyes and gave a gentle laugh.
"So uhm......" He scratched the back of his head in a nervous state trying to find ways to put it.
"I've never actually caught a pokemon....... How do you...."
He paused getting even more nervous as he attempted to get the question out. It was a really simple one to ask but at the same time it was a bit hard for him to admit he really needed help with such a simple task.
"How.....Do you catch a pokemon exactly? Mine are all either already caught or someone else caught them for me...."
The boy felt his face get heated with embarrassment but knew it was a question he needed to ask so he didn't look like a complete fool out during the contest. And Tristan was his new friend right? Not to mention he seemed like he has had many different pokemon and probably caught a box full of them. He knew how to catch them without a problem and Hiru was sure of it.
A... beauty contest? Tristan's mind suddenly leapt to the contest halls in Hoenn that he'd remembered seeing, but had never partaken in. He was, however, touched that Hiru enjoyed seeing Reedah so much. Reedah held her head high, giving the trainer opposite Tristan a smile.
I'm sure she appreciates it, man. Thank you.
His anxiety about turning in his Pokemon to a complete stranger still loathed inside of him.
Yeah... well, I guess I just don't trust people. It's probably just me, man. There's probably nothing to worry about. Right? Tristan didn't mean to seem so paranoid, but he couldn't help it. What if all of his Pokemon were gone? He shivered at the thought, hoping to move forward in the conversation.
Tristan listened as a man walked up and began to speak to everyone aloud.
Hmm... what stats are they gonna be judging on? And, 500? I get more from defeating a regular trainer than I would from this. Are the Pokemon really that valuable here?
The man finished his monologue, and the crowd burst into noise as the people around Hiru and Tristan began to speak nonstop. He turned to Hiru in midst of the chaos and pulled him outside of the circle. He made sure that their Pokemon followed them away from everyone else before he started to talk.
He smiled at Hiru's genuinity.
Alrighty, man. It seems like this thing means a lot to you, and you seem like a native to this place. Let's go wherever you wanna go. He ran through in his brain what would be happening after five minutes from now.
I don't think I'll have too much trouble in here - Reedah is pretty strong, and she actually seemed stronger than a lot of the other pokemon that the other trainers had here. But, I'm here for you, man.
He laughed; the two had practically just met, but he was already trying to guarantee his new friend's safety.
He was certain that Hiru was about to talk, but the bell rang.
Aww, for peat sakes.... He watched as Hiru began to run in a direction that seemed completely random to Tristan, but he trusted it nonetheless. Before him and Hiru stood a huge safari that appeared to run into the depths of the wilderness forever. Beyond the gates to the arena they were trapped inside of was a humbly large crowd that roared with excitement at the start of the competition.
Running away in the maze of a safari, the two finally seemed to be away from other people long enough to catch their breath and their Pokemon in peace. Tristan doubled down, attempting to catch up with Hiru's level of excitement - and his breath.
For... Tristan breathed in and quickly pushed the air out.
Peat sakes, man.
Reedah had been having quite a joyful amount of time. She had needed a stretch for her legs for quite some time now, and Tristan, looking up to see if she'd caught up, could see a look of gratitude on her face for her faithful trainer.
Well, I'm glad someone's enjoying this. Reedah opened her mouth and began to laugh, delighting in the fun that she and her trainer were having.
Seemingly out of nowhere, Tristan decided to say,
Geez, mate. You'd think I wasn't 21 or something. What the hell happened to the days when I could... fricken, run everywhere?
He let Hiru talk while he regained his breath. Afterwards, he let a moment of silence hold in the air while he thought of how to give his little tutorial.
Wait... so all of the Pokemon you've ever received were from missions? Tristan thought to himself for a minute.
I didn't even get a formal tutorial myself. I just kinda leapt into it.
Tristan could see that Hiru was quite nervous. Did he, too, suffer from anxiety?
Don't worry about it, man. I'm glad to be able to show you. As if on cue, Tristan's eyes picked up movement in a nearby shrub. He whipped his entire body around to face the movement.
Well, looks like you're about to get your first lesson in catching Pokemon, man.
He nodded as if to say you're welcome to the pokemon and gave it a smile. It truly was a beautiful pokemon. The pokemon to Hiru seemed as if it looked prideful in it's abilities. This made Hiru happy, he enjoyed seeing happy pokemon and good trainers.
Nodding in agreement, Hiru took note of what Tristan had said.
"I can understand that, not many people do trust a stranger with their pokemon. It's like a big family. But my dad always left his pokemon with this man so I'm sure they'll be perfectly fine." Hiru knew that a personal experience would be much better in a comforting matter but he didn't have the personal experience. This was really his first time on an adventure like this.
Tristan sighed in relief.
I've always been afraid of that. He looked at Hiru with a serious look in his eyes.
Just make sure you know who to trust in life, alright? Not everyone is trustworthy out there. He didn't mean to scare the kid, but Tristan wanted to make sure that he wasn't putting blind trust into every new relationship he had. Of course, it was different for Tristan and Hiru, but he still wanted to make sure.
When he was pulled, the boy blinked in confusion but realized it had been Tristan that had taken him out of the crowd and into a less crowded spot of the room. He took a glance back to see his Unknown had followed him close behind floating above the group of people. And not to far behind the pokemon was Tristan's Ninetails.
The boy nodded at Tristan and shrugged.
"Not native to Johto I just know a lot about the area seeing it's right next to Kanto. And my dad traveled here a lot and brought back stories. He's told me all about Johto and Kanto both. He even went and watched a Pokemon League live! It was a really cool story. I wanna see one eventually."
That comment particularly had caught Tristan off guard.
Wait... you're not from Johto? Then... why were you there? Tristan could feel his ignorance of the Kanto and Johto regions begin to set in, and he felt doubt inside of himself.
Odd... usually I keep on top of where I'm going towards and stuff....
He finally shook his head.
Nah, don't worry about it, man. It probably doesn't matter that much, anyway. My bad. Tristan laughed, hoping to keep the light mood that he'd built with Hiru.
Hiru grinned when he said he was going to be there for Hiru. He never really had friends and to make one so quick and in such a short time made him happy. He felt as if he could trust the man with any of the situations and would likely be protected. Tristan
did look like a powerful trainer and Hiru was sure that he was. Just from the two pokemon he had seen, he knew it was safe.
Hiru looked back to Tristan realizing he wasn't as filled with energy as he was and decided to slow it down. He was beyond excited and couldn't wait to catch his own pokemon. But they would have to find one first before they could catch it.
"Let me know if I'm moving to fast. I can slow down without a problem."
He nodded to Tristan as he thought of his own age. "Well I'm still pretty young so I don't run out of energy as fast I guess?" He questioned it not quite sure how it worked. But assumed Tristan did, his father could never keep up with him so he assumed with age it slowed you down.
That's fair. Tristan didn't really know what else to say to that comment, so he let it be.
The boy looked down as if he was ashamed of the matter. It was true he really didn't have any pokemon of his own. Pi and Chu-Chu were really his from the start. Chu-Chu had just went home with him and Pi was an egg. The other three pokemon he held were all straight out of a mission.
"Yea, Void and the other Unkown I have were caught by the Ranger guy I was with, he just used the pokeballs I had to catch them and gave them to me. And my Magikarp just popped up on my watch when I completed my last mission."
Hmm.... Tristan made it clear that he was thinking about this predicament. Truthfully, he hadn't caught too many of his own pokemon, but he felt that he had enough experience to be able to convey it to someone much younger than him.
Well, I guess we're gonna try this, then.
Hiru perked when Tristan had told him not to worry about it. And he would be happy to show him. His sadness had faded away quickly as he went back to his usual bouncy self.
"Really?! You'll show me?! That'd be awesome!" He bounced more in place with excitement. And then the rustle in the shrubs caused him to focus his attention on them.
"Ooo Right there!" He said and pointed seeing Tristan had already taken note to it.
Tristan could see it, even before the kid had spotted it. It looked like an innocent enough looking bug pokemon - one that seemed could prove to be easily frightened. Tristan quickly hushed Hiru by putting his fingers to his lips and making a
Shhhhh! noise. He turned his head to look towards Reedah, who seemed to have already spotted the pokemon and was watching it's every move.
That's a tiny bug pokemon, man. I don't usually catch bug pokemon, but I'd assume that, especially in a contest atmosphere like this, it'd probably run on sight when it first sees us. He tried to make the motion as non-confrontational as possible, making sure to keep the kid's attention while still showing that he was a good guy.
Hiru perked and quickly sealed his voice inside keeping as quiet as possible. Tristan had seemed like he was in the zone already and both of them watched the small pokemon like a hawk. Yet he only nodded when Tristan said he didn't normally catch them then mentioned they normally run on sight.
"Well, from what I hear they all hide until someone sneaks up on them. Then it just happens."
He spoke quietly, before sliding in behind Tristan following him closely. He had gone even as far as crouching down lower then usual trying to be lower to the ground. Hiru's normally playful excited face held a more serious tone. Much more then he had ever really held. But this was a serious matter to him and he didn't want to miss a bit.
He motioned for Hiru to follow him closer, bending his knees and crouching while moving closer to the bug pokemon. He wanted to be able to catch this thing, but they weren't yet close enough.
So, the first thing you need to do is get a little closer. You can definitely try to make a "sniper shot" at the pokemon that you're trying to catch, but people usually try to weaken the pokemon, first.
The boy listened to his words and nodded silently.
A sniper shot? He questioned it in his own mind but assumed it was throwing the ball without doing anything and capturing it that way.
"I'm not sure what you mean by sniper shot but I'm following you so far."
When they were close enough, Tristan stopped suddenly and turned his head to make sure that Hiru, Reedah, and the Unknown had caught up to them. They'd moved about fifty feet closer to the pokemon, and they were about 25 feet from it now. He was surprised that the pokemon hadn't noticed them yet; mabye it wasn't trying to escape?
Next thing you're going to want to do is get your pokemon out, which it is. Reedah and I will show you how this is done, so pay attention and sop up the details, alright? Tristan gave the kid a wink, as if signifying that it was going to be a fun event.
Hiru continued to listen to Tristan as he explained everything and gave a nod to show he was listening. He seemed really intrigued by the matter ahead and was interested in catching one of his own. He only blinked to Tristan's wink as if confused.
Within a moment's grasp, he propped himself straight up and looked to Reedah.
Reedah, now! At that moment, Reedah knew exactly what to do. The beautiful nine tailed pokemon burst forward and put one paw forth as a ray of what seemed to be confusion emanated from the pokemon's paw.
He watched as the confusion wave struck the pokemon. He could see swirls in it's eyes as it became dazed with the confusion. Stumbling around on itself at the same time, yet it still seemed to have a will to fight. This made Hiru laugh at the poor pokemon.
The small bug pokemon was startled and attempted to release a String Shot attack in retaliation, but it simply wasn't fast enough. It became dazzled at the sight of such a gorgeous fox pokemon - so dazzled, in fact, that it didn't know exactly what was happening, thus leaving it incapable of escaping.
Nice shot, Reedah! Let's do this! Tristan chuckled.
This is too easy. He looked from the bug pokemon to Hiru.
Make sure that you weaken the pokemon in any way that you're able to without making it faint. That's the key to catching a pokemon. He made sure to place a strong emphasis on the "without" part of the sentence, making sure that Hiru knew what steps should be taken.
He looked back at Reedah, who was calmly, patiently awaiting what to do next.
Alrighty, Reedah. Let's weaken it with a flamethrower. As soon as he spoke the word, the loyal fox sprung forth a joyous burst of flame from her maw, dousing the bug pokemon in flames.
Nice work, Reedah! I'm going to try to get the capture, now. Reedah held her head high, feeling pleased that her trainer appreciated her to an immense level, and stepped back slightly.
When the poor pokemon released it's string shot Hiru could tell the speed was at an all time high of a diffrence. Before Hiru even knew what was going on, the pokemon was doused with fire.
"Super effective." He spoke to himself and watched as Tristan continued. This pokemon had no chance at all against Tristan's Nine tails. It was an unfair fight if anything else.
Hiru snapped his attention to Tristan as he spoke of capturing it now. It was the moment he was waiting for and he eagerly focused every bit of his attention to him as well as the injured pokemon. He learned a lot in just a few moments of time that had passed. And he felt as if he was almost ready himself.
The bug pokemon no longer knew where to strike - if the confusion wasn't enough, the flames were definitely blocking its vision. Tristan turned again to Hiru, while bringing an event-typed sports ball from his belt.
Alright, man. This is where it gets real. He held up the color-filled capsule to Hiru, making sure that he could see it.
What you're gonna wanna do with this is throw it straight at the pokemon as if we were playing baseball. He began to wind up to throw the ball.
When it hits the pokemon, it'll open and bring it inside. After that, I'll show you what happens.
He threw the ball, making sure to take great aim. As it whistled though the air, Tristan could see that the pokemon had turned to see the pokeball. Because it wasn't able to reject it, the pokeball hit the small bug, opening and consuming it after.
The ball rolled once. Tristan observed the pokeball and began to talk quickly to Hiru.
This is when the pokemon will attempt to fight the pokeball. It will roll a total of three times, with sparks coming out of the ball if it's captured. However, in between those rolls, it can come out at any time.
The ball had already rolled the other three times. Tristan waited for the sparks in a tense moment, but soon after saw them project themselves from the small, uncommon sports ball.
Well, I guess that's as good as a notification as any, yeah?
Hiru gasped in awe as the ball went whizzing through the air and struck the small pokemon sucking it in. It was an amazing sight for him to watch, he personally had never seen a pokemon get captured in this nature. Chu-Chu when he 'captured' her was easy, he just tapped the pokemon on the head with the ball and it was caught.
When the ball rolled he focused on it re-gaining his serious face watching as it rolled, once, twice, and then it rolled the third time only to see the sparks Tristan spoke of. Internally he cheered for Tristan's capture. It was his turn now and he felt as if he was ready.
"Awesome! My turn my turn!" He shouted and quickly moved to another section of the park finding the first pokemon he could. This one looked a bit odd, it was a small crab like pokemon with mushrooms on it's back, yet he recognized it easily.
"Paras..." He said and began to creep up on the pokemon like Tristan showed him.
Yet while Hiru did his thing, the Unkown followed behind him showing a blank expression. When Hiru believed he was close enough he pointed to the Paras and nodded.
"Hidden power." He spoke softly hoping to catch it off guard. Void's expression had changed to a more serious look as Hiru gave him the order. Void quickly gathered up the power inside and with a burst it exploded in the direction of Paras.
The small pokemon looked up from the leaf it was munching on only to jump with fear seeing the blast come directly towards him. In return it attempted to strike back with a scratch only to take the blast directly.
Taking a moment to recover, Paras shook the mushrooms on it's back and emitted a spore like powder dousing Hiru and Void. Void cringed at the (stun)spore as it took it only to use Hidden power once more, striking the bug like pokemon again.
As Paras returned the strike with another scratch attack Hiru focused on the two.
"Hidden power one more time!" He said and pointed to Paras, yet the Uknown only cringed sitting still. Hiru looked at the pokemon with a worrysome look unsure of why it wasn't attacking. Paras, on the other hand waved it's little claws in the air and used it's asorb attack draining some of Unknown's health.
Hiru glanced back to the Paras as it did so and pointed.
"Come on Void, you've got this! Hidden power!" He spoke aloud and this time it responded with it's attack hitting the pokemon once more. Hiru had assumed this was enough seeing the damage taken from his pokemon and quickly took aim and stepped back focusing as he took a step forwards and threw the Sports ball directly to the pokemon striking it directly in the forehead.
"Bulls-eye!" He shouted as it engulfed the pokemon.
Shaking, it went once. Then twice. Finally, the ball rolled over and blinked with a shower of sparks. Hiru cheered with the matter and grinned.
"Woo! I got one!" He said as he quickly rushed over to the pokeball and picked it up staring inside the ball at the rather angry Paras. He grinned and looked back assuming Tristan was behind him.
"Look! I got one!"
Tristan laughed with vigor at Hiru's optimism and ambition to begin capturing a pokemon right after him.
Alrighty, let's get going to find one, then. He quickly picked up the pokeball that he'd used to catch the pokemon and began to follow Hiru. Tristan and Hiru walked with a rapid pace to another area, which was quite filled with noticeable pokemon.
He watched in silence as the young trainer commanded his pokemon to strike at an unsuspecting Paras. Then, quietly and in a low tone, Tristan broke the silence by whispering,
That's good, Hiru. Keep it up. Do your thing, man.
Huh. Hidden Power must be the only move this pokemon knows. Interesting. He glanced at Reedah, who seemed to be smiling at the young boy. Tristan couldn't help but reflect the smile onto his face as he watched the pokeball shutter to silence as the scene of Hiru's first pokemon catch began to unfold.
Tristan was slightly impressed.
You know, it's not every day that someone's first catch - ever - is successful. Tristan smiled at the boy.
You've done well, man. He offered his hand to Hiru in a high five.
I'm not really too much into this competition, man, so now that you know how to catch pokemon, we're going to win it for you, alright?
He looked around the area. They'd floated to the near middle of the arena, but Tristan didn't have much of an idea as to where to do.
All of the pokemon seem to have scattered since we caught that Paras... Tristan looked around him. There were a various many other trainers gathering in the area as well.
Suddenly, an idea came to Tristan's head. He quickly grabbed Hiru by the shoulder. He put his mouth to Hiru's ear and said,
We're running to the corner of this map. I think that's where the pokemon - the good pokemon - are at.
Reedah and Hiru's Void already seemed to know Tristan's plan. He readied his vocal cords just at that moment and belted out,
Oh my God, is that a fricken Pinsir AND a Scyther?? Hiru, hurry, catch them both!
It didn't take long for, at the least, half of their competition to flow in from various other sides of the arena to start to fill in where they were currently standing. Tristan took this with grace and ran to the north-western corner in an attempt to book it.
Hiru grinned at the praise Tristan gave him and nodded. "I did well?! Awesome!" He said and returned his hand with a high five clearly excited. He was still overly excited as he peered down inside the ball at the annoyed Paras. He didn't plan on keeping the pokemon even tho he would have loved to keep it. His eyes set even harder on a prize that was uncommon around the bug hunting contest. He wanted to capture Scyther.
Lost in his own little mind he half heard Tristan speaking to him and caught just the end of it. "Win it for me?" He asked and stared at him in confusion for a moment before slowly lighting up. His first contest and he was going to win? It would be a joy for sure and would likely be the best day of his life.
The boy began to bounce with excitement once again and nodded. "Yea! Lets win! Lets go and catch the biggest Scyther there is! I want one soooooo bad." One of his favorite pokemon had always been Scyther, behind the Eevee's and obviously his Pikachu. None the less he was even more excited for the chance to win.
Hiru felt Tristan's hand on his shoulder and blinked hearing him whisper in his ear. The energy he had was hard to keep contained as he wanted to shout with excitement but he understood speaking aloud would only focus everyones attention towards him and the corner Tristan spoke about.
"Oo! Give me one minute tho." He said and quickly moved over to Void who gave him a strange look when Hiru approached him in that manner. With a smile he gave the pokemon a nod. "You have low health. Let me help."
As Hiru spoke he touched the pokemon's head and closed his eyes taking a deep breathe. "Might sting a little." He said as he focused his energy. The Unown's eyes widened and he seemed to have a glow in his eyes as the much more minor cuts slowly began to seal themselves and mend together. Much like a poke-machine would heal them Yet Hiru's seemed much less effective. The Unowns health had regenerated from the 30% it was at up to 61%.
As he removed his hand, the pokemon backed away from Hiru slightly and the boy let out a heavy sigh feeling as if his own life energy had been drained. "That takes a lot out of me every time I do it. But it works." He said before giving a nod to Void he just bobbed up in down in front of him feeling a bit more trust towards his trainer. Yet he kept his serious nature on top not wanting to show his feelings.
Completely missing Tristan's idea, he looked when Tristan shouted "Where?!" He asked with excitement ready to bolt yet he seemed to be stop by the hand still on his shoulder and Void who moved in front of him stopping him in his tracks. Yet before he could protest to ask what his pokemon seemed to be doing he turned to see Tristan bolting towards the opposite corner of the area only to follow close behind.
Tristan watched with patience as Hiru quickly healed his pokemon.
That is one SERIOUSLY unique ability. He better be careful with it. Tristan's ears perked up at the sound of the ability "stinging." He began to grow curious, but as he came up with his plan, he reserved his questions for when they would have more time.
It takes a lot out of you? That's not... Hmm... Tristan didn't know how to feel about this at all. If it drained the kid every time he used the ability, why use it at all? The questions were killing Tristan to keep inside of him, as he wanted to ask all of them at once, but one not-so-close look into Hiru's eyes could give Tristan the information that Hiru was quite tired from his healing session.
Tristan seemed to run through brambles of bushes, intently focused on listening to the
pitter padder of Reedah's paws and the
stomping of Hiru's feet, before finally appearing to be isolated from the other contesters. He could hear the group of people creating an over-the-edge loudness that was still pertinent in Tristan's ears.
He doubled over in breath from the nearly 200 meter sprint that he and Hiru had just committed themselves to.
Alrighty.... Hiru... I think that I've officially gotten my exersise for the next... four years. Tristan huffed and puffed.
I'm not even fat, man. Common!
Oblivious to the surrounding possibility of capturable pokemon lingering in the area, Tristan spoke
Alright, man, but yeah, we're going to win you the contest. Everyone's in the center of the arena, so it's just us on the corners. It won't last for long, though. Let's start finding you a Scyther or some other huge pokemon.
He looked back at Reedah, who seemed tired but quite ready to begin the arduous work. He nodded to her, as if to tell her good job, and then looked back at Hiru.
Alright, man. I'll search one way if you search the other, alright? Geez, I repeat words a lot. He waited to see what Hiru would do.
Hiru nodded in response to his question about taking a lot out of him. He felt his energy sapped away but his excitement from the contest wouldn't let it stay gone too long. Of course he was ready for a nap but that was aside from the point. He wanted to win this contest and he
Really wanted the Scyther that prowled around the area when the contest was open.
Hiru was a few feet behind Tristan, the man was surely taller and clearly had larger strides then he did when he ran causing Hiru to fall behind rather quickly, yet he still did his best to keep up. When Tristan stopped Hiru paused just behind him. "Four years? I'm a lot younger then you and I think that's it for at least five or six." The boy laughed between each pant and slowly stood up after a few moments catching his breathe.
When Tristan spoke of winning the contest once more he nodded in excitement. He did get the entirety of the contest to the center aside from a few stragglers who were off in their own little world, yet it wouldn't last long when they caught onto Tristan's bluff and they'd likely be flooding the area soon enough. "Scyther would be nice! Oh! And you can catch one too." He said with a grin ready to get into his next pokemon capture.
The boy nodded at Tristan's command about splitting up, with that he pointed off to the left and headed in the direction. "Alright I'll go this way!" He said and fled quickly to search for the pokemon around the area. Hiru searched for a long ten minutes for anything that he could catch sight of. Seeing another Paras a few Weedles, and a Caterpie. Yet his eyes focused on one of the higher tiered pokemon. A Scyther had caught his sight. This one looked fierce and quite angry at the world. "I found one!" He shouted back towards Tristan's direction. It was the first one he'd seen and likely one of the only few during the contest.
Hiru looked to his Unown and gave the pokemon a nod. "You ready?" He asked in a whisper. Hiru planned a 'sniper' shot like Tristan had mentioned before. With this in mind, Hiru smiled with a sly look and pulled one of the sports balls out from his side and took aim. Hiru reeled back and hurled it towards the large bug pokemon like a baseball striking it directly on the back of the head. The pokemon turned and glared at him for a moment before getting sucked into the ball.
As the pokemon was dragged into the ball Hiru was positive he had the pokemon caught and was going to move onto his next catch. He grinned widely and turned to his Unown. "We did it! And it was super easy!" He shouted with excitement which the Unown bobbed and would surely be smiling if it had a mouth. It was still unsure about it's new found trainer but one could grow to like the child right?
While the boy seemed excited, Unown felt a similar pride in his trainer. As the two boasted on the matter, it was short lived. As Hiru continued with his excitement Unown was first to take notice to the bug pokemon who had crept out of the ball and was directly behind Hiru. It was now hovering over Hiru while Unown stared at it with a fearful look.
As this happened, Hiru felt the darkness approach and then slowly turned his eyes widening in fear as the pokemon raised it's blade and brought it down. Void on the other hand quickly moved into action and blasted Scyther right into the chest with it's hidden power. This sent the pokemon backwards just out of range of hitting Hiru. Void stared at the pokemon with annoyance and Scyther glared back with anger more then annoyance.
Scyther snapped at Void with an attempt to bite him. Void in response struck back with a hidden power. Before he could counter the Scyther once more, the bug pokemon darted towards Void once more and struck him with the back of his blade using a False Swipe attack. Unown reeled back and tried to counter it but was met with a follow up quick attack.
Void was clearly losing the battle but it didn't give up. The pokemon continued using his own Hidden power attack striking Scyther in a few spots, yet the pokemon didn't let his guard down. It would keep it's pace up with physical attacks while Void kept up with the ranged Hidden power. Unown was finally catching onto Scythers movements and was able to dodge a few moves here and there but still to a blunt of the attacks.
Hiru waited for his moment to catch the pokemon until it had rushed Void one more time. Taking his shot, Hiru planted the ball right onto the pokemon's right wing. This one sucked the pokemon in and Hiru watched the ball drop to the ground. Rolling once.....Twice.....Then the third time it rolled over, Hiru was ready for it to flash with sparks yet it didn't come, and the Scyther shot out of the ball. This time he seemed even angrier. Scyther scowled at Hiru before turning back to Unown who blasted him with the Hidden power. Hiru felt the battle heat up even more as the two were back at it again. Unown striking with his moves, Scyther responding with his own move set.
After a few more strikes were hit back and forth, Hiru threw another Sports ball. This one striking the pokemon one more time. As Scyther was sucked into the ball, Hiru watched the ball roll Once...... Twice..... Three times.... Sparks went flying causing Hiru to leap with excitement. He was excited for sure when he realised the capture was final. Yet in the midst of his excitement he hadn't taken notice to his pokemon at first.
Void on the other hand who did feel that Hiru was happy felt the opposing ends of a battle. He was in very rough shape, in standards the pokemon had roughly about 8% of his health left. Scyther on the other hand, even tho he was catpured was surely closer to 20%. Hiru soon took notice and moved over to the pokemon kneeling down to it as it seemed to be floating lower then normal.
With a concerned look, he examined the pokemon and the large marks from the blade of Scythers scythes. He was in pain and Hiru was sure. He gave the pokemon a small pat and nodded with a gentle smile. "You did very good Void." Tho Hiru was positive that he wanted to win the contest he couldn't put his pokemon through another battle with this current state.
With a frown he stood up and pulled out his pokeball. "Don't worry Void. I think I'll leave the contest where it is. I couldn't put you through another battle in your state. Not to mention I had only just healed you so I really don't have the energy to heal you again or I would." With reassurance, he moved closer and tapped the pokemon on the head with the ball and sucked it into the ball. Void seemed rather happy to be in a spot where he could rest and not spend energy floating. Hiru replaced the ball and frowned thinking of the state his pokemon was in. Battles were ruthless and he hated putting his pokemon in that state. He could only imagine if Pi were to be the one to be injured in that nature.
Tristan shook his head.
I don't exactly know if there's a scyther around here, Hiru. I only yelled that to make up a distraction for the crowd. Tristan could tell, regardless if his statement from earlier was true or not, that the child was dead set on finding the powerful pokemon hidden within the captivity that was the contest.
He kept silent when Hiru went off to find his own pokemon.
I'll make sure Hiru wins this competition. It seems... important to him. He tilted his head towards where the kid was running towards. He seemed to be extremely excited; so excited, in fact, to the point of leaving Tristan at the mention of splitting up.
This caught Tristan's curiosity.
I wonder how he'll do by himself. He looked in the area off to his side. The bright, vibrant grassy area was shrouded by the tall leafy bushes that surely held plenty of pokemon, ripe for the picking.
He frowned, as if knowing that this wasn't his race to win.
It's not that I don't care enough. I just don't think that I have enough passion to win this. It's not my forte to compete in this type of stuff. I only did it for the kid. Surprise crept onto Tristan's face, as quickly as if a newbred mosquito had found its first blood.
He looked to Reedah, who'd been idling next to him for the past minute or so. Whispering, he quietly told Reedah,
Alrighty, girl, we're going to check out what he's doing over there. Reedah seemed to nod in response as the two followed the path that the young boy had taken.
Crouching, he quickly but silently made his way towards where the young trainer was perched. It seemed that, after all, the trainer had found his Scyther that he had been so valiantly looking for. Tristan gave a smirk at how large the pokemon was - it was surely enough to place highly in the contest. Tristan quietly facepalmed.
I didn't think he'd actually find one. Lucky guy, I guess.
Just then, a brief amount of commotion could be heard right in front of him. He swiftly lifted his hand from his face. In front of his eyes, there was no more scythe- in fact, in its place was a lone pokeball that sat on the ground in silence.
The kid really did it. huh. Didn't know he had it in him. Good for him.
Reedah nudged him with her snout, prodding him to go forth in an effort to congratulate the kid. Tristan looked back and smiled at his companion, knowing exactly what he should do. He stopped crouching and walked up, slowly, to the young trainer. He appeared to be talking to his Unknown, but Tristan couldn't make out what was being said.
Nice job, man! You did awesome. Tristan sort of hoped that he would startle the young boy, as he thought it would be quite funny if he quickly realized in front of him that he had been sitting there the entire time.
Hiru perked feeling a cold shiver run down his spine as Tristan spoke aloud to him. He wasn't expecting Tristan to have been nearby much less watching. The boy gave a soft laugh more out of being nervous then anything. "Yea it was ok I guess. That pokemon was really tough....Not really used to pokemon battles either so..... Well you know." He gave a nervous sigh and looked to the pokeball that held the scyther. "He was a tough one. I'm going to keep him tho. But Void got really hurt during this." His voice trailed off for a moment as he thought of the damage done to the Unown. Battles were scary. And it was true pokemon died but he could only imagine if one died cause of something he did.
I think that you're very well on your way to being a great trainer, Hiru. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Tristan raised his hand in front of Hiru in an effort to reward him with a high-five.
Hiru looked up to Tristan and smiled widely when he said he was going to be great trainer. He then returned the man's high five and grinned. "Sounds great! I'm aiming more for breeding like my family but a trainer on the side sounds fun." He nodded in agreement with himself and looked around. Other trainers looked as if they were finishing up their things and catching the last of their own pokemon.
However, Tristan knew that it was high time that they should get back.
Alrighty, alrighty... let's get- Just then, a sound could be heard from the intercom. A bustling, excited voice could be heard over the speaker systems.
Trainers! Congratulations for everyone's hard work. This officially marks the end of the Contest. Please meet in the middle of the Contest Square, so that we may evaluate your catches and announce the winners of this contest!
Tristan gave a slight smile, as if he knew how the contest was going to play out. He looked expectantly at Hiru, measuring the kid's excitement levels.
Well, man, you ready to go claim your trophy? He gave Reedah a nice few strokes along her spine, petting her as he spoke to Hiru. He wasn't looking at her, but he could tell that she was enjoying it.
Hiru gave a nod to Reedah and smiled at her.
"You did great Reedah." As he spoke he looked to Tristan and made his way to the center.
"Well lets see how things go." He spoke feeling the excitement build up inside him. He had caught a large pokemon and had only hoped this was enough to win. Even if he hadn't won then at least he caught the pokemon he was looking for the whole time.
As the crowd built up in the center from all the trainers participating, the contest owner stood and waited standing on a pedestal of sorts. When everyone was there, the man went to each and every trainer examining their pokemon they captured and looking across each and every one. With this, he also carried a cart filled with crates of pokeballs returning every trainer their pokemon that had been left with him.
When he was finished he made his way to the pedestal once more and stood up giving a nod. "Alright everyone! We will now judge the amount of pokemon caught. In first place! With the grand amount of twelve pokemon! We have Trainer Jerry! In second place! We have Trainer Sarah, catching a total of eight! Third place was Trainer Elizabeth! With Seven! Please collect your prizes after the ceremony and we will go from there." He left a brief pause for the cheering of everyone and the winners to step to the side.
"Alright! Now we move on to the final contest! We will be judging the winners on size! and Weight!" The man gave a quick nod to the crowd and examined everyone. "In third! With a Venonat! Weighing in at 66lbs. And a size of 3' and 4". Bug catcher Jimmy. Please step aside." With that he motioned over where the other winners had stood awaiting.
After a moment he went back to the crowd. "Now! In second place. Following up with a Scyther!" At the sound Hiru felt the depression hit him. It wasn't first but it was second which was just as good right? He frowned at the matter and felt sadness fill him up but it was soon over when the man continued. "Weighing in at 123lbs! And a total height of 4' even. Bug catcher Sam!"
Hiru thought he had been the only one who had caught a scyther. But apparently not. Yet he waited for the winner to be called out. The moment was nerve racking for him as he wasn't even sure if he made the top three in the contest. The man smiled with joy standing high. He waited a few moments to build suspense for the final winner. Feeling eyes lock onto him, he gave a nod once more.
"And now! The moment we've all been waiting for! Our first place winner! With yet again, another Scyther! Weighing in at 128lbs and a total height of 4' 12" Trainer Hiru Taki!" Still lost in his mind of depression he had barely heard the man when his name was spoke. Yet the boy quickly had a change of attitude as his focus went from the ground straight to the man before him. His mind quickly rushed with the mans words as he began to bounce with excitement. He had won the contest? Hiru was almost positive he was going to lose.
"I thank you all for coming out! It's been a great contest with a total of thirty four trainers! Almost a new record! It's been a long and hard contest for many of you and I bid you good luck and remember! In four more days we will be having yet another contest! So good luck and have fun, we hope to see you again! Contest winners please meet me after the contest for your prizes."
With the finishing of his statement he stepped down and waited for the area to clear out. After doing so, Hiru and the rest of the winners met up with the man to receive their prizes and continued with their evenings. Hiru had kept the Scyther as his prize, And quickly met back up with Tristan shortly after.
"Wasn't that fun?!" He shouted with excitement and bounced in place looking to Tristan. He was clearly overly excited and looked down to the pokeball now holding his new pokemon.
"We got a new friend! We won a contest! And it was a fun experience!"
Hiru had done his first contest and was ready to embark on more adventures. The time would come when he would have explored the entire world around them. He had plans all the way from Kanto and straight into Alola. Surely his adventures would continue in Johto but Hiru often had wondered what areas he didn't explore and what they looked like. His mind moved to Tristan who his new found friend was. They had done things that Hiru wanted to do now he assumed it was only valid they had done things that Tristan wanted to do.
"So what do you wanna do next?" He asked with pure excitement. Maybe this was a chance to not only move from Johto but to explore areas like Hoenn and what not.
Tristan laughed.
Reedah, you haven't done anything, but... Tristan smiled.
I guess it doesn't matter. Tristan nodded his head at the child when he told him he wanted to postpone his thoughts on the event until after the rankings were announced.
Tristan walked with Hiru unto the crowd, watching and listening as everyone bustled around. Reedah trailed along behind him, watching the crowd to make sure that everything would go peacefully among the chaos. Tristan noted the pokeballs that were laid within crates, which Tristan assumed would be used for the end of the ceremony.
I guess we're pretty up and coming here. Tristan didn't now what that meant, but he was happy to have said it.
The first round of prizes went through, and Tristan started to get confused.
There's multiple prize categories? For peat sakes. Shows what I know about this. Sorry we didn't win everything! Tristan ate his own words, though when Hiru was announced as the winner of the height and weight category.
He smiled again.
Nice job, man! That's fricken amazing. He high fived Hiru, wanting nothing but the best celebration for the boy.
Wow, I really just don't care that I didn't win. He laughed mentally, as if it didn't affect him much that he hadn't won a competition. Tristan's name was called afterward, multiple times, but he didn't very much mind. He looked to Hiru, letting him know that he was ready to go.
Tristan and Hiru started to walk back to claim their pokemon from the stranger at the desk. Tristan snickered.
Yeah, man. It was a pretty cool experience. You definitely got a lot of experience at that thing, for sure. Tristan hoped that the experience would stick. Reedah continued to follow the two, and Tristan became aware of it. He stopped for just a moment and petted the loyal creature.
You did good today, Reedah. Thank you. Take a rest now, my dear. With that, he returned the mythical pokemon back to its pokeball.
He turned and continued walking with Hiru, looking him in the face as he did.
Just remember everything you learned, Hiru. You're going to need it if you're going to want to make a difference in this world. He didn't mean to grow so solemn, but it seemed inevitable to him anyway.
Finally, Tristan realized that he had to be brutally honest with Hiru.
I'm going to be going back to the Village of Time to meet with my friend soon, but I will also be fighting each consecutive gym of the Hoenn league. Tristan shook his head.
I donno if your goals align with mine, but I'm mainly going to be exploring, man. You're always welcome to come with me, but I donno if it'd be that interesting to you.
They both came to the door of the event center, and Tristan pulled the door open for his friend to walk through. Following behind him, he walked up to the desk, stated his name to the assistant, and in no time at all, he had his pokemon once again.
Hiru returned the high five still bubbling over with excitement. He was happy that he had a friend for this contest it was someone he could share his excitement with.
"Yea!" He shouted grinning. Taking a look at the berries that he obtained he blinked and then looked up to Tristan. The berries to him, wouldn't be much use so he held them out to Tristan.
"I have berries if you want them! I don't really need them, I don't plan on using them anyways." He said with a smile towards Tristan
He knew Tristan had gained a pokemon but that was all and it was something basic and simple. He was sure Tristan would likely never use it seeing it was something so basic and easy. Hiru assumed Tristan had atleast twenty more pokemon that could likely just poke the pokemon before it dies off. Hiru had hoped his berry offer would suffice for any loss he may have taken. The boy was almost positive Tristan had done it just for him anyhow.
When Tristan had told him he had experience he grinned and bounced a bit before nodding.
"All thanks to a great teacher!" He admitted to Tristan that all of his progress was made clearly through him. Hiru could only imagine what it would have been like if he was never shown how to catch a pokemon. His plan of action before Tristan showing him was going to be to just throw the ball and hope for the best.
The boy's cheerful glow died off for a few moments when Tristan mentioned taking his leave. He had just begun the adventure with a new found friend and now he was leaving. A frown appeared on his face for a few moments but soon perked back up once more.
"Well I don't know about being a full fledged trainer but I'd love to join you! Ooo I can go with you to Hoenn, and find Ralts and pokemon like that! He's my favorite!"
Hiru chimed in with excitement. He was always up for adventure and what not. He wanted to find more pokemon anyways just so he could widen his collection.
"Think I can get a pokedex there too?! I'd love to have one so I can fill it up this big!" He said and spread his arms wide open. It was true he didn't want to be a trainer and much rather aimed towards the breeding section of things but filing a pokedex would be a great goal for him. He then perked a little realising he completely skipped what Tristan had said.
"Oh I can go to the Time Village too! No idea what it is but I wanna go!"
Tristan curiously took the berries and deposited them into his never-ending backpack.
Thanks, Hiru. I'll take your word for it that you won't use them, because otherwise I probably wouldn't take them. He laughed, as if he'd somehow made a joke out of it.
Tristan smiled at the boy's excitement.
Geez, this dude has a bunch of energy. He started to talk with a bit of enthusiasm, saying in an even tone,
yeah, man. The experience is what makes it all worth it, you know what I mean? Without that, you won't get too far.
He contemplated on Hiru's cheer in wanting to join Tristan on his adventures.
Do I think that he could handle this? He stopped walking, as if appearing deep in thought.
What if I temporarily brought him to my house while I went and checked if I could even bring him to the Village of Time? I donno how the residents would feel if I just brought him... He decided to put these thoughts into words, telling Hiru exactly what he had just thought.
He decided to be reassuring as well.
I promise you, I'm not going to kidnap you or anything, but would you like to stay at my house while I find out if I can bring you to the Village of Time? I'll admit, I'm not from there and they seem pretty weary of outsiders they don't know, but if I bring you to my house, I can at least let you know whether it'd be possible or not to bring you.
Hiru smiled and nodded with an excited look. "We can do that! I can stay at your house for a few days if you'd like." Hiru had never been to a 'friends' house, his town was always so small and had very few people in it, he was lucky if there was more then two kids in the entire town. To him the idea sounded great and he'd likely have a good time anyways. Not to mention he could meet up with a few Hoenn pokemon as well and possibly start his collection of pokemon there.
