Hmmmm. I couldn't find anything about why it's green.

Thanks, I've found over the years that talking about it helps instead of bottling everything up inside. Plus like I mentioned in other thread there is such a negative stigma associated with PTSD I like to do my part to correct the perception of it. I've only ever seen a couple of movies or TV shows that accurately portray it. I'd say 90% of what you see in media is wrong and give suffers of PTSD a bad rep. We are normal people just like everyone else. Most of the time when people find out I have it they are surprised and would have never guessed. Though I think it is like that with most mental illnesses.

What? Yes it most certainly is a condition that requires treatment. However, most of these conditions have no cure. Just a serious diagnosis with a future of uncertainty and a shitty hand dealt to them that forces everyone around them to suffer because of it. Saying a personality disorder, a legitimately diagnosed personality disorder, is a subjective claim about someone is like saying Autism is a subjective claim too. Or diabetes is a subject claim. Or being a cow is a subjective claim. Disorders are diagnosed by a category of symptoms, tests, and a history.
There are tests. There are a series of symptoms. There must be a history. It isn't something that is easily diagnosed. NO DISORDER is easy to diagnose. You don't walk into a doctor's office and get told you're Schizophrenic or have an anxiety disorder. There are actual tests and a history to look at. There are other professionals to go see.
It isn't subjective. It is definitely real. And it is definitely something that needs to be treated and not left to those people on their own to deal with.

I've actually had to be retested for mine, I was originally tested and discovered back in 2nd grade. In Middle school some of the accommodations they gave me just made things worse, so asked my mom to drop it. Then we moved, in high school all of my teachers knew what I had, a couple were actually very proactive in helping me in whatever way they could, but I technically didn't have accommodations. Then during my first year of college, after my first history test. My professor pulled me asside when class ended and asked if I was what I was. When I said yes, though being surprised she could tell, since most people can't really seem to tell when someone is or not. She recommended I get my accomodations back, since I hadn't had them since middle school.

They had to test me again to see if I still had it or needed the accomodations, I was just getting tested for the one thing, but they could tell both... Something, I found a little embarrassing since I have gotten better about the second one and can sometimes control it... To a degree

Seems like it might be an Irish thing because the main website for info is .ie and then this one's also from Ireland.

So possibly the idea originated from there? And Irish = Green

Or maybe green was the only color choice left

I think most ribbons have their color based on whatever the founder wants them to be. Kinda like how there is no reason behind the breast cancer ribbon being pink, the diabetes ribbon being blue, or the cystic fibrosis (its also CF awareness month!) ribbon being purple.

Yeah when I did a quick search there were several things represented by a green ribbon.

Achalasia awareness (Lime green)[75] June 16 is Achalasia Awareness Day (MMIVAAF sponsored)
    Mental health awareness[76]
    Non-Hodgkin lymphoma awareness[77]
    Lyme disease awareness[78]

These are all for lime green

I found a few of these scattered. I'll post them a few days apart to give people the chance to talk about the information if they wish.

    Spoiler: Infographic on Anxiety

I've tried a few of the suggestions to help with anxiety, though I've found adult coloring books to be too abstract and it makes me anxious to try and figure out which color I want to have where, because what if it doesn't look right. So I'm going back to Disney coloring books because the colors are set!

There are certainly a lot of symptoms on there I can personally relate to.

Since this thread is about awareness of mental health here is a general definition taken from Wikipedia:
Mental health is a level of psychological well-being, or an absence of a mental illness.[1] It is the "psychological state of someone who is functioning at a satisfactory level of emotional and behavioral adjustment".[2] From the perspective of positive psychology or holism, mental health may include an individual's ability to enjoy life, and create a balance between life activities and efforts to achieve psychological resilience.

According to the World Health Organization, mental health includes "subjective well-being, perceived self-efficacy, autonomy, competence, inter-generational dependence, and self-actualization of one's intellectual and emotional potential, among others."[3] The WHO further states that the well-being of an individual is encompassed in the realization of their abilities, coping with normal stresses of life, productive work and contribution to their community.[4] Cultural differences, subjective assessments, and competing professional theories all affect how "mental health" is defined.[3] A widely accepted definition of health by mental health specialists is psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud's definition: the capacity "to work and to love". It is considered to be a simple and more accurate definition of mental health.

Hey this is a good place to highlight good/realistic portrayals of mental health problems.

The musical "next to normal" is a great portrayal. I might add songs from it to this post later. Look it up.
