I have a list of locations actually, so I could just roll to see which one you appear in!

Probably end up in the middle of a dangerous hellhole, die and then come back out somewhere else

Well this one here is mostly based off characteristics of two colonists I had in a game called Rimworld. I hadn't realized it until I've seen the similarities and thought "lol what a coincedense."

    Anyway, here it is:

    - - - Updated - - -

    Name: Irene Reid
    Age: 28
    Gender: Female
    Race: Human

Appearance: She stands at 6’1”” tall with a tight, bulky feminine figure. Her white facial features are rough but fair along with a small scar that run across the bridge of her nose. Her blond stringy hair reaches her shoulders coupled with sharp sapphire eyes. She wears an open-jointed battle dress of grey plated armor for her upper body, above her black inner tunic, along with a short grey skirt of woven leather as well as black linen leggings underneath a pair of greaves. She also wears gauntlets that latch onto her personal shields for better handling and grip.

Personality: At first meeting, Irene may come off as cold and apathetic, a look of a soldier who had seen death one too many times in the battlefield, but her true emotions ignite within. She’s not one to convey her emotions through facial expressions, but only through her actions. Her posture and tone carry a sense of regality and duty, a noble knight if one would guess. She’s not very trusting of others, but will appreciate allies that stand by her side. Being a veteran, she remains calm and collective throughout her bouts and in stressful situations. She’s a pragmatist and usually ignores another’s feelings without thinking of it, which aided in her already cold and apathetic demeanor.

Irene has a soft spot for children and absolutely adores them. Despite her hard-headed nature, she harbors an unusual hope that any child would one day become great and grand no matter the circumstance. Her true motherly nature would take form when around children. She would be soft and kind, quite different than how she usually is.

    Powers/Abilities:

Shield of Reckoning: A powerful, sturdy magical shield of gleaming white that is immune to disenchantments and can protect the user from physical and magical attacks. It also has two forms of which it can take.

Tower Form: It’s the shield’s base form. It is as wide as two bulky men and stands nine feet tall, perfectly vertically rectangle and able to cover anyone behind it’s sturdy and highly reflective surface.

Mobile Form: The shield splits into two separate parts and shrinks. Each shield becomes the size of smaller than normal rectangle shields and are attached to Irene’s gauntlets. Less weight, but still retains its sturdiness.

Both forms are able to use all the same shield abilities, but only one ability may be active at a time:

Reflect: The shield(s) is(are) able to reflect magical and physical projectiles, bouncing off the surface at a direction it’s angled at.

Counter Pack: The shield will absorb the impacts of attacks being thrown at it and stores it within. Then Irene may use the shield and unload all power struck at the shield all at once to anything that comes in contact with the shield. It has the capability to accumulate infinite amount of impacts if allowed to.

Compound Repair: If the shield(s) is(are) damaged, such as dents or pieces broken off, it can call all pieces anywhere at any distance to reform its original glory. Every piece will try to fly toward other pieces, preferably the nearest ones.

Force Impact: A very strong force will emanate from the shield(s), capable of pushing away large boulders or groups of people.

Guard All: A bubble of tangible light will form from the shield(s). If in mobile form, will only cover the user. If in tower form, will cover a sizeable surface around the user, being able to fit a small group of people within if necessary. The bubble is solid, therefore nothing can go in and out. This bubble will have the same attributes as the shield(s), meaning it can resist physical and magical attacks just the same, but roots the user in place until the ability is stopped or if the bubble receives too much damage and breaks. It will take time for it to recharge for it to be used again.

    ----

Steel Mind: A veteran of many battles, her will became strong and is highly resistant to attacks that target the mind or test her willpower. However, if emotions are risen, Steel Mind will falter.

“Sixth” Sense: Many battles had she been surrounded by hoards of enemies and endured the most hits had allowed her to ‘feel’ the presence of threats and predict most attacks aimed at her and at what angle and origin. Problem here is that her body will not move as fast as her mind, having her still vulnerable to multiple, simultaneous strikes or a very swift strike. And the range of the ‘feeling’ only extends to five feet.

    Weaknesses:
Having such strong feelings for the young could leave her emotionally vulnerable in situations involving children.

Being primarily a close-ranged fighter, she has no means for indirect attack.

Both her shield forms have pros and cons. Most obvious is that when in mobile form, she would only be able to block smaller attacks. When in tower form, she is slower and can be vulnerable to attacks from her flanks if she’s not careful.

Though her shield can be repaired magically, the pieces of the shield can be taken away before it reaches its desired place.

Other Skills: Very skilled close quarters combatant. Has average knowledge on blacksmithing. Can play a harp very well. Exceptional leader given her veterancy. Cooks with motherly skill. Is very physically strong despite her size.

Equipment: Her shield as well as a sack filled with a few days of rations. She also carries a small piece of the shield, in case if the shield were to be lost.

Goal: To free her world from the oppressive tyrannical government that plagues her land.

History: On a cold, snowy day, a baby was born as a bastard to a young woman who was forced upon by a drunkard. With no means to support a child, the woman left the baby at the doorstep of an orphanage. The caretakers had found the baby and named her Irene.

Years had passed and Irene was raised by the caretakers of the orphanage. Not many kids have been adopted as most people at the time were poor and parts of the city was under siege. Fortunately, the orphanage was far from the front lines, but the people that lived within the city had no escape from this war until military support aided the army that defended the city.

    But that support never came.

At the age of twelve, the war had been long going and the city defenders had their footing after footing after footing until the orphanage was now within the boundaries of no man's land. As expected, the opposing army had pushed in further, their soldiers invading the orphanage. They were ruthless and uncaring. They slaughtered the children and caretakers by order of their commander. Some were hesitant in bringing cold steel upon young blood, but there are those who would do so gladly for sport. Irene hid in a secret compartment in the basement along with other kids. They knew they'd be found eventually, so Irene pulled a lever and a secret hatched that lead to the outside opened.

As they emerged, the kids found themselves in the midst of a chaotic battle. Both sides suffered heavy losses as more and more fighters joined the fray. Unfortunately, the children were swept up in the tide of battle. They scurried across the battlefield, running past soldiers and war beasts. However, their young legs could only do so much. One by one, the children were picked off, either by collateral damage or accidental strikes. Only Irene was able to escape from the chaos as a city defender was able to scoop her away on horseback. However, trouble did not end there as the defender was chased by a couple horseback archers. The defender weaved through the city streets with speed, but the archers followed close behind. Soon, the defender broke off from the city and into a nearby forest, hoping to lose the archers, but a lucky arrow embedded itself within the skull of the horse, The defender held the crying child within his arms as he toppled over, landing in the foliage.

Quickly, he stood and ran in between the dense trees, still carrying the child. The archers discarded their horses and followed in foot. Once at a good distance, the defender released the child. He knelt down beside her and the two exchanged words for a moment before the child ran deeper in the forest and the defender turned around to confront the archers. Whatever the ultimate fate was for the defender will forever remain a mystery to Irene. Eventually, the child found herself out of the forest, nearing the outskirts of the city. She saw a military caravan leaving the city, most likely full of wounded. Irene decided to follow and leave as well rather than die here. The soldiers there were kind enough to take in Irene as they escaped the city.

From then on, Irene would find herself training to become a Shieldmaiden. A title of high status and respect. Only the select number of women were chosen to have the privilege to earn such a title. Through grit and determination, Irene found herself standing among the elite few who had completed training by age eighteen. She spent the next decade in many battles and sieges against the oppressors, fighting hordes of soldiers and war beasts with other maidens by her side. Throughout her campaign, she met a man by the name of Eric Reid. The two fell in love and eventually married. The two had a baby boy affectionately named Asmund.

By the time Irene was twenty-eight, her child had grown to a toddler age of six years. Her husband watched the house and took care of Asmund as Irene ventured off to battle. It was not long before the hundred year war had escalated and pushed into the homefront. A humungous battle erupted just outside Irene’s home. The veteran fought with all her might, but her leg was injured by an arrow. Combined with all her other injuries she sustained had taken its toll, felling her to the ground. Eric emerged from the house and ran to aid Irene, despite her protests for him to stay away. Unfortunately, Irene’s words would fall to deaf ears as an arrow found its mark in Eric’s skull. Irene could only watch in horror as her husband fell limp onto the ground. She was then pulled away by her comrades, but her loss doesn’t end there. A warbeast found its way into her home. The sound of a crying child was ceased in an instant.

Irene was whisked away to a medical encampment. However, all the healers were already in the frontlines, leaving the doctors behind to tend to the wounded. Irene’s left leg was heavily injured and had a severe infection. They had no choice but to amputate it. The shieldmaiden was confined the bed for the next month. She lay there and toiled away hours in sorrow.

Soon, the war had caught up to her and the battle raged on nearby. Everyone would have died if not for Irene. She hobbled outside with a crutch and her shield in hand. Despite her crippled state, she was still able to distract the enemy long enough for her comrades to escape. She died fighting, her body covered in soot, dirt, blood, and tears.

    Eric: Age 27
Personality: Despite his somewhat skinny appearance, he is strong-willed and determined. He carries an aura of duty and honor, quite infectious to those near him. No matter the danger, he will always face it with zeal and grit. A smile followed by snorting laughter and a slap to the chest are his trademark characteristics. He’s a romantic and certainly believed everything happens for a reason. This philosophy keeps his head high and morale strong. He can get attached to others very easily, which makes any farewell all that harder to come.

At times, he acts with his feelings rather than through logic. He would forego carefully planned strategies if it meant any sort of collateral damage to innocence. He’s a competent fighter, at least well enough to hold his own, but sometimes he may forget his own limits and place himself in the worst positions. He tends to overreact to any injury done to his allies, no matter how trivial.

Appearance: He’s quite skinny for his height, with noticeable slender muscles from his time in the field. His pale face was rough, yet strangely his nose was quite smooth and rosy, as if he were sick with cold. His brown eyes matched with his groomed brown hair. A thin beard covers his chin and connects to a thin moustache and to his hair. His eyebrows are quite furry, which at times could make him seem angry when he isn’t. As a soldier, he wears leather armor from head to toe with a chainmail helmet. As casual, a simple blue tunic with a long skirt and brown trousers and shoes.

    Asmund: Age 5
Personality: As a child, he’s typically quite loud and rambunctious. He always wants to play, but is very emotionally sensitive. Even the slightest insult could send him in a crying fit. Asmund feels closer to his father rather than his mother, given that Eric spent the most time with him as Irene spent the majority of her time in her campaign. Despite that, he loves his parents very much, always excited to see his mother return during her very few off days, and is obedient to a fault.

Appearance: A bit pudgy, with pinchable cheeks. His brown hair is groomed, thanks to the attention of his father. And just like Eric, he wears a child’s blue tunic with brown short pants.

Ayyy! She also kind of reminds me of Valystan...

Well... just because shield-based character trying to free homeland from oppressive government.

Most everything looks good but a couple questions -

Two bulky men wide and nine feet tall is insane - if it was also the thickness and density of a functional shield it would doubtless be far too heavy to use effectively. Does she have some way around that?

Secondly, how does she fight? I mean, I like her Sixth Sense ability (it is very reminiscent of an ability from Fate/zero -sorry, inner anime nerd shining through - lol) but it seems she has a lot of defense and no actual weapon/combat capability - which considering her exceptional combat skill is kind of interesting. Fighting with a shield that big would be basically impossible even if she could use it effectively because she could only really use it to ram people.

Oh, and some of her abilities like Guard All would need a fair bit of time to recharge after breaking or being active too long. I assume you already knew that, but just make it explicit please :3

All in all, looks good doe!

Yeah the guard all would take time to recharge and stuff :P.

Also in tower form, it is very heavy, but she has the strength to crush enemies with it.

Most of the attacking would be through mobile form, as it allows to her move freely and easily. Think of it as her being a brawler, but with shields as the boxing gloves :P.

Oh crap forgot to mention the edge of the shields

Ahhh, so she's got her tower form for a massive defensive stance - probably good if she's got allies to protect - and her mobile form for beating the crap out of people with her sturdy, lethal, and (edged) shields!

Pretty much :P, in tower form, she wouldn't be completely struggling to lift the shield, but she wouldn't be able to quickly switch flanks with it, so it leaves her vulnerable to quick enemies when in tower form, but very good when against huge enemies that aren't very fast.

And oh I almost forgot to add one thing in the sack.

Oh very smart, so even if the shield is completely shattered somehow and cast to the wind - she can use that one piece to recall it to her!
