Default On the Shoulders of Giants

    On the Shoulders of Giants

In the year 2112, both the Eurasian Union, the African Federation and the United Americas convened to tackle a major issue. A catastrophe of unprecedented proportions would befall humanity within only a few years, and despite how far we’d come in ethics, culture, sciences and engineering, there was no way we could hope to prevent it, not with the meagre preparation we’d been given. At the same time, one of our greatest scientific projects of the century was completed: the genetic record. A compilation of the complete genome of thousands of notable figures of human history. This allowed a permanent record of the DNA of these people, and so, we were provided with an opportunity. We could create a shelter, one that would protect a select few from the catastrophe, whilst the remainder of humanity lived out the remainder of their lives in peace from orbit. Inside this shelter, we resolved to place one thousand of these historical genomes, artificially fertilized and incubated, so that they would be born one hundred years into the future, when the effects of the catastrophe had long faded and all other humans were long deceased, so that these powerful and intelligent individuals could rebuild humanity. Of course, this process wasn’t perfect. A question came, to ask which of these historical figures should be placed in the shelter and which should not, but as the time until the catastrophe closed to mere days, we were forced to place an essentially random selection into the shelter, figures that could range from Robespierre to Genghis Khan to Plato became the new face of humanity.

One hundred years later, one thousand children were born. From childhood, these children, nurtured in isolation by machines in their room within the shelter, were educated and prepared for the world outside, which had largely been reclaimed by nature. Mathematics, Geography, the Sciences, the Arts, Philosophy, Leadership and Ethics. The only lesson that was left out was History. It was hoped that removing any history from this new world would allow a clean slate, and living without knowledge of whose historical persona was contained within these children would prevent agendas and grudges and obligations from emerging, which might corrupt the functioning of the fledgling civilization.

At the age of sixteen, one thousand scientists, poets, kings, presidents, dictators, conquerors and religious figures were released onto the earth, and due to the massive scale of the shelter, they settled into more isolated settlements, with limited contact with one another, but due to the powerful personas of these reincarnated figures of history, fights and feuds often broke out between settlements, who operated with vastly different ideologies.

Each of these children, apart from their education, were told two things:

Their first name, and that they were to rebuild civilization from the ashes.

Welcome, one and all, to the world of 'On the Shoulders of Giants!'

The personas of each of these characters is identical to their historical persona, making for some interesting situations! Your character can be anyone from Qin Shi Haung to JFK to Lenin, the choice is yours! Before joining, however, we do have some rules:

Cool, I added his settlement. It was just a minor addition and I'm glad I didn't have to start again from the beginning.

    Name: Napoleon

    Gender: Male

    Historical analogue: Napoleon Bonaparte

    Appearance:https://www.thehistoryreader.com/wp-c...poleon_-_2.jpg

Personality: Napoleon is a militarily focused individual. Strategically brilliant, he has an amazing ability to not only understand where his subordinates are and what they are doing, but to also accurately predict the next move of his opponent. Additionally, he is an incredibly inspiring leader in combat and those under him tend to be supremely confident in his decisions and command. These traits combined make him a nearly unmatched military mind, but it also feeds a substantial ego, making him perhaps overconfident.

His most defining characteristic however is his ambition, an unquenchable thirst for more: more land, more wealth, more power, and more respect. He can never be satisfied with his position and will seize any opportunity to bring glory and advancement to himself. His ambition is only matched by his near obsession with victory. Losing is not acceptable and must be avoided at all costs. Victory is a necessity.

    Settlement: Cosaka

Historical Bio: Napoleon Bonaparte was an early 19th century military leader and eventual Emperor of France. While he was not necessarily a bad administrative ruler his real talents were on the battlefield. Napoleon consistently proved his military prowess in a multitude of wars throughout the early 1800s and regularly beat combined forces much larger than his own. He fundamentally changed how war was fought and is regularly considered to be one of the greatest commanders in military history. Napoleon was eventually humiliated by a failed campaign to conquer Russia, and his ultimate defeat occurred at the Battle of Waterloo. He was then exiled from France where he lived the rest of his life alone.

Bio: Upon setting out into the world, Napoleon immediately went about trying to find individuals that would help him make a name for himself. He knew that his talents lay in tactics and military might rather than politics and peace and therefore wanted to find those who were willing to get their hands dirty. For this reason Napoleon ended up in Cosaka, a place where his talents for conquest could be put to good use. The city was in its early stages when Napoleon joined and he was influential in the formation of the Cosaka military.

Because of his early involvement, Napoleon has acquired the command of around 20 men, a substantial number consider the total population of the world. In the year since release he has won a series of battles, more accurately small skirmishes, which has led to him becoming a well-respected military official, although still not one of the political elite of the city, a fact he wishes to change. His friend and rival Julius also serves in the Cosaka military and the two share both a deep respect for and desire to outdo the other.

Looking to the future, Napoleon hopes to increase the size of his command, help with the expansion of Cosaka, and perhaps one day rally enough support to defeat Leon and take the settlement for himself. If his plans originally fail, he is not afraid to start again until complete and total victory is his.

Yaay! I was hoping someone would pick Napoleon! Unfortunately there are two problems with your character sheet:
One, you skipped the section outlining which settlement Napoleon belongs to (yes it's in his bio, but it makes it easier for other readers to get your character at a glance), and the second thing is a little something in the rules that you're missing...

    Name: Leonardo

    Gender: Male

    Historical Analogue: Leonardo da Vinci

Appearance: https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com...1272ccb679.jpg (i know its from assassins creed but i like this interpretation)

Personality: Leo, for the most part, is quiet and laid-back, preferring to leave the bold leading and charismatic speeches to others. That is, until you get him talking about something he loves. He could drone on for hours, no, days about art or engineering or anatomy, and will probably have to be reminded that not everyone is as enthusiastic about this stuff as he is. He is also forgetful and absent-minded at times, but somehow always meets his deadlines.

    Settlement: Riviere

His. Bio: I'm gonna cop out and link to this bio until I can type up something proper.

Bio: Ever since he was very little, Leonardo excelled in nearly every subject. Science, math, art, architecture- you name it, he was probably interested in it. Although Leo was often considered a "nerdy" kid of the population, his incredibly diverse talents made him extremely sought after for creating new ways to improve settlements. At first, Leo couldn't stand to stay in one place for long. He traveled from place to place, building and inventing and doing whatever else he desired. But as the three major settlements grew in power, he felt he could no longer freely work with all of them. So he chose to remain in Riviere, where, though he did not always agree with the leader, he felt he could best practice his studying and art in peace.

Other: He dreams of a humanity started again with new advancements in the arts and sciences.

Splat & Eden: Your character sheets are just about good to go, but you're both still missing something. I would go and read the rules again, particularly *cough*rule #7*cough*

    Anyway, here's mine!

    Name: Fidel

    Gender: Male

    Historical Analogue: Fidel Castro

    Appearance: https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com...2a0da7e6ef.jpg

    Settlement: Riviere

Personality: Fidel is not an easy person to get along with. He’s supremely paranoid, and it is hard to gain his trust, even over a long period of time. Despite this, Fidel is loyal to those he calls his friends. To his friends, he has a good sense of humor, and is able to laugh at his own expense, but he likes to be in charge, and can often be a sore loser if he feels like he’s losing his grip on the situation. He has a notoriously short temper and can easily become angered if he thinks someone has slighted him. He has very little patience. Despite this, he takes a genuine care for his comrades, treating his friends as if they were part of his own family. He sees himself as a natural leader, and will often challenge an authority if he sees fit. He is a virtuous guy, believing things such as drugs or gambling to be evils, and, though his methods and philosophy can be questionable, genuinely wants to help others.

His. Bio: Fidel Castro was born in Cuba in 1926, and in university, often attended Student protests, and quickly became the University’s political president. His protests and demonstrations quickly made him both popular and an enemy of the government, and he had quickly amassed a contingent of armed gangs, who would protect him from attacks. During this time, he was influenced by the writings of Karl Marx and Vladimir Lenin, and became heavily left-wing. As an adult, went into politics, hoping to remove the corrupt President of Cuba at the time, and attempted to gain a seat in the house of representatives, but he failed.

Fidel, years later, founded an Anti-Batista revolutionary cell called “The Movement”, and attempted to capture a military barracks, but failed. He escaped prison and the country, and began waging guerilla warfare against the corrupt Cuban government, and he made a chain of command consisting of himself, his brother Raul Castro, and his right-hand-man Che Guevara. The revolution proved a success, and within ten years, Fidel had complete control of Cuba. He instigated major education and quality of life reforms, and sought to better his country under his rule. As a socialist single-party nation, Fidel was officially non-aligned, but in reality found favor with the Soviet Union, who provided them with Oil and raw materials. The USA then authorized the CIA to attempt to overthrow Fidel, which failed disastrously. Fearing a US invasion, Fidel allowed the USSR to station nuclear missiles in Cuba, leading to the Cuban missile crisis and the closest humanity came to Nuclear War. After this, Fidel spent the rest of his presidency in relative peace, outliving many of the American and Soviet leaders, before retiring in due to health issues in 2008, leaving the post to his brother Raul. Fidel later died at the age of 90 in 2016.

Bio: When the reincarnated Fidel was released from the shelter, he was left by himself for quite a while. The 16 year-old camped and travelled quite a bit, scavenging and exploring the ruins of nearby towns and living off the land. He remained this way for almost a year, covering a large distance, and occasionally running into others, but he usually steered clear. Eventually his food supply ran dry in the winter, and he sought out a settlement, joining one nestled in a forest not far from the mountain where the shelter was originally situated, where he settled in and sought to become one of the co-leaders of the settlement. It’s leader Charlemagne, however, didn’t take a liking to Fidel due to his more radical ideas and his hunger for power, and often refuses to allow him to have a say in the running of the settlement, which led to a bitter rivalry between the two.

Other: He hopes mankind can start again, with himself at the helm.
