Name: Evelyn Mayes
I.D. Number: 22568098
Rank: C1
Year: 2nd Year
Nationality: Australian
Age: 15
Sex/Gender: Female
Appearance:
The image is a starting point, but it isn’t perfect so I’ll expand a bit.
Eyes: Green, as shown, but rather than normal human eyes, the pupils are slits in the same manner as a snake’s.
Added feature: Tail that follows the coloration and patterns of a green anaconda.
Height: 5’00” (152.4 cm)
Weight: 132 lbs. (59.9 kg)
Fighting Style: Capoeira (8 years)
Parahuman Aspects: Snake-like, anaconda based. A tail that can be controlled in the same manner that a snake can control theirs, as well as infrared vision. This being said, she is also cold-blooded in nature, meaning she functions best in temperatures between 55 degrees Fahrenheit and 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Below and above those points, she begins to slow down, and when temperatures reach freezing, physically, it is hard for her to be active in any manner.
Personality: She is a highly independent person, even to an extent where she may have trouble asking for help. She despises not being treated as an equal, and has challenged people over it in the past. Due to the nature of her life, her productivity has always been high, and where she falls short, she will not allow self-pity. In fighting, she enjoys taunting her opponents, and refuses to back down, something that has gotten her seriously injured before. During the winter seasons, and on some extremely hot summer days, she becomes highly irritable, though in winter, she has to swallow those feelings in the efforts of keeping warm enough to stay awake in the first place.
Overall, her independence has led to her daily conversations being filled with snarky quips and an air of sarcasm at most things, though she does at least try to maintain a professional demeanor a lot of the time. Push her though, and that demeanor wipes away, revealing the person she’s become to survive all the ridicule and discrimination.
Background: Being born a parahuman practically ensured that life for Evelyn would hardly be a walk in the park. She faced discrimination in the form of fear, as her eyes, green, with black slits for pupils like those of a snake’s, as well as the tail that hung down her body, were a frequent source of nervousness to those around her. Despite this, during her early years, she was outgoing, attempting to make friends wherever and whenever she could.
In the end, these efforts were to no avail, leaving her with no one but her parents to be close to. Following that, she decided that even with no one but her family to stand by her side, she would rise above it all. In her early life, while school remained easy, her parents brought up dancing, and she happened to find interest in it. Well. Breakdancing at least, as she found it to be fun, always keeping her on her toes, and keeping her in good physical condition. When she hit the age of 7, however, she decided that it wasn’t enough to draw her attention. Having seen programs on television plenty of times, martial arts was something she found immense interest in, but she wasn’t satisfied with those that she saw, being a child and believing that she was on top of the world and capable of anything. She looked further, and eventually came upon one that she couldn’t even pronounce; Capoeira.
Her young mind drew connections to her breakdancing, and so that was what she began to gravitate towards, and so, her parents helped her find a studio to train at, and lessons ensued. Quickly, she came to the conclusion that, while there was a flow to Capoeira, it was definitely not dancing. She struggled at first, but as with the other things in her life, she kept at it, and began to improve immensely.
Eventually, as school began to increase in difficulty, Evelyn shifted her focus away from dancing and entirely on to her Capoeira training. Along with that increase in training, she also decided to learn more of the history behind it, sympathizing with its purpose, being used by the oppressed in order to defend themselves. She also learned the reason for there being no distinct ranking system; because Capoeira has always been somewhat disorganized in its practice, there is not one single ranking system, and so the school she went to for lessons decided to forgo ranks altogether, in favor of a complete focus on the art in general, and teaching people whatever they may be capable of learning.
In school, she found no distinct interest in any of her subjects, with the exception of history, and as such, her grades often fell in the range of high Cs to mid Bs, with history being her only A, though it wasn’t for lack of effort. By the point schooling had truly become difficult; independence had permanently been ingrained into her head, leading her to almost never ask for help. When she didn’t understand something, she would learn it herself, no matter how much time it may take, or how frustrated she may become. Even so, she made it through year after year, whilst also improving her martial prowess, eventually becoming the top of her studio, even able to compete with her master.
She first heard of New Peaks Academy before her first year of high school started, and tried as hard as she could to convince her parents to let her go there, as she wanted to test her skills against those who were practitioners of other martial arts. Her parents were, understandably, cautious about the whole ordeal. They were wealthy, with both of her parents being neurosurgeons, so money as a whole would not be an issue. No, they feared what life would be like for their daughter. It was one thing to simply be independent and face discrimination in a place where there was at least one friendly environment for her to return to. It would be something else entirely for her to go off to an island where, for all they knew, discrimination against people like her could run rampant. In the end, she was forced to continue schooling at home for her first year, though her parents noticed she was clearly unhappy for the entirety of the year.
It was the second year of high school where her parents learned of the Parahuman Initiative group at the school. With that realization, they decided that things might be okay for their daughter at this school, and began to fill out the paperwork. In the end, everything was decided, and with a tearful goodbye, and reassurance that if anything went wrong, Evelyn would call her parents as soon as she could, she was boarding a plane to New Peaks, ready to test herself in every way she could with a set of words ringing in her head, “First Rule of Fight School, don’t fail Fight School.”
