Both his parents shook their heads. "No. all she said was that she had to take care of something and ask that we watched the kids for her until you guys came back from California." His mother said with a smile. "Is everything okay?" She asked as she indicated Alicia's arm.
"Yeah. Everything is fine." She lied easily with a smile. "I just got into a car accident in California. Julian arrived shortly after that so we ended up spending all of our time in the hospital." His parents gasped.
"Oh my! Well, I'm glad you're okay besides your arm!"

Julian closed his eyes when she lied to his parents. He had been trying to make up his mind about what to tell them, and now she had made that decision for him. She had decided they would lie. About everything. He forced himself to nod, trying with all his might to keep his composure. "...We should get going," he murmured. He put on a smile for his parents before turning away and going to the car. He couldn't stand there any longer.

When Alicia heard Julian speak, she knew that she had made the wrong choice. He was disappointed in her for lying. She struggled to maintain her smile as they waved and bid their goodbyes. On the way to the car, her face fell. "I....I panicked..." She said softly.

"Yeah," he murmured. He opened his mouth to say more but he saw the kids looking at them from the car. "...We'll talk later," he said softly.

She nodded. "I.... I'm sorry..." She murmured before getting into the car. She wondered how many more times she could say that before it lost its meaning. She looked away in shame before starting up the car. "Ready to go get ice cream?" She asked the kids with a smile.
"Yeah!" Lily exclaimed. "Then do we get to see our presents?"

"You sure will. They're in the back," Julian said, looking over his shoulder. "No peeking."

Lily's eyes widened. "Really? Can I peek? Please please please!" She begged as she squirmed in her car seat.
Alicia chuckled. "No sweetie. After ice cream. You can tell me all about what you did with your aunt!"

Tommy grinned as his sister squirmed. He would show his parents that he was stronger than her. He remained in his seat, looking at his parents in the front. "We baked cookies with aunt Zoey! She showed us how to make them into all sorts of shapes."

Alicia smiled as she started driving. "Oooo really? What kinds of shapes?"

"I made one of mine into a ninja star, and one into a dinosaur, and one into a spaceship, and I also made a moon and a star!"
