So are we classing say the 16-1700's as the end of the period and 1000 as the start? Or will we go from the Norman Conquest of England (1066) as the start of the Medieval period? Just so I can get the right information and ask the right questions haha.

Personally I'd say about the 500's to 1600 about. Depending on how you look at it.

Personally I'd define medieval about 500-1500. Once you get in the 1500s you are into renaissance and reformation stuff. It's also at that point you also start to get the first professional standing armies in place of feudalist ones.

Perhaps I should have titled it Feudal Eras thread so people could discuss those times including outside of Europe?

Hmm I didn't think of that. I guess for argument we could just say the medieval period lasted longer in different places.

Gustav II Adolf (1594-1632), also known by his Latinized name "Gustavus Adolphus Magnus" was King of Sweden from 1611 until his death. With the aid of his Lord High Chancellor Axel Oxenstierna, he successfully fought wars against Denmark, Russia and Poland. In 1628 he intervened in the Thirty Years War on the Protestant side. The year 1631 saw him bring the Catholic imperial army to a bitter defeat at Breitenfeld near Leipzig, thus turning the tide of the war. In Nuremberg, Gustav Adolf opposed the imperial generalissimo Wallenstein for the first time. After the indecisive battle, Wallenstein moved north to avoid further conflict, but was followed and in November of 1632 the Battle of Lützen took place. Gustavus Adolphus was killed while leading a cavalry charge.
German Protestants soon idealized the king as their heroic savior and he became known by the names "Der Löwe aus Mitternacht" (The Lion of Midnight) and "The Lion of the North".

The name of the intro "Dominium Maris Baltici" is the Latin name of Gustav Adolf's primary aim, the dominion of the Baltic Sea.

That's not really medieval period but kudos for knowing about him. He was a good leader but did get sweden embroiled in rather a long war. I actually saw where he was buried when I went to Germany.

He also had a ship called The Vasa but it sunk just after they launched it. You can now see it in a museum.
