Crowds of people spread out through the whole of Jackson Memorial Park, where a wide range of booths and attractions had been set up for the 60th Annual Summer Festival. Carnival rides, a bazaar, daily shows... Mayor Velasquez had definitely gone all out this year, and why not? All of the proceeds from the fair would go to the community, after all, by giving some of the local businesses a perfect chance to sell their goods and get some public exposure, as well as attracting a growing number of tourists from the nearby suburbs and occasionally from the city.

A sizable crowd soon began to converge around a mat set up near the far edge of the park, where a martial arts exhibition by Seven Winds Martial Arts, a local martial arts school and a frequent guest at the Summer Festival, was scheduled to begin. Lian Zhao, one of the school’s newest co-owners, walked up to the microphone first.

“Good morning everyone!” Lian said with a bright smile. “Are you all having a good time?”

Cheers followed, after which Lian proceeded to give a brief speech on Chrysalis: a non-profit in the LA/Santa Monica area offering transitional jobs and job training programs for the homeless to help them find and retain employment. Ever since the time of Han Wei, Seven Winds’ original founder and owner, it had been a custom of the school to sponsor a charity at the Summer Festival every year, and this year would be no exception, with Lian taking the time to describe the good work Chrysalis was doing and encouraging the attendees to donate.

Meanwhile, Zheng Wei, Lian’s brother and the other co-owner, was on the stage helping one of the students to get ready. This first demo was sure to grab everyone’s attention early on; Zheng would take part in a sparring match against senior student Seth Winnfield, with both sides changing styles every so often to give the audience a glimpse into the diverse tactics and maneuvers of many different fighting styles.

Once everything was set up, Zheng nodded to his sister to signal that they were ready, and then Lian turned back to the audience.

“Okay, ready to see some sparring?”

A cheer from the crowd signaled that they were indeed ready, and as the participants gave each other a respectful bow, Lian counted down with the crowd.

    “3...
    2...
    1...”

Lian blew her whistle, signaling the start of the match.

A typical day for the martial arts student in disguise. He strolled through the halls of the rather large building that was the 'temple' he studied at. Too long it had been since his assignment was given, yet he could remember it like it was yesterday. He stood before the emperor and the words that came out of the powerful man's mouth said to infiltrate the school, learn their ways, and find out any secrets that may be hidden. So far he had found nothing, just a bunch of talented children wanting to prove themselves to their master. With a smirk, he moved through the empty buildings. Everyone was no doubt at the festival and yet here he was silently moving through the various halls like a shadow. It would only be a matter of time before the sorcerer's son made his appearance, but for now Thiago would have to lay low and scope things out. He had learned a lot, though he was already experienced upon arriving. His disguise was actually working and he was happy to know that no one suspected him of anything other than a talented, overachieving fighter.

With a sigh, he vanished and appeared in front of the master's study. He reached out to touch the doorknob but received a painful shock upon touching it.

"Ahh, sealed up tight," Thiago said with a smirk. He retracted his hand and rubbed it as he moved away from the door and proceeded towards the festivities. He would enjoy watching people pummel each other for the sheer thrill. As he stepped he slowly began to shift into black smoke, eventually vanishing into nothing. Moments later he appeared on the far end of the festivities where no one would see him arrive. He was dressed in elegant garbs like a prince. He made it just in time to see Zheng and Seth start things off.
