Bio:
Jasleen was born as the first royal child, to a King and Queen who were the most beloved of the fairy yet. Under their rule, the fear and wars of the past were contained to the borderlands, and many fairy folk hasn’t had to really worry about the Chromatic Dragon raids as anything more than something that happened far far away-certainly not something that could touch them.
The Queen decreed that, although Jasleen would eventually inherit the crown, her formative years should be spent among the people as one of them. She attended one of the schools in the Capital, and got to see first hand just what it was like for other fairies. School didn’t teach her quite everything, and a lot of her free time was dedicated to her “princess lessons” as she called them. But overall, it was a fun and peaceful childhood.
That all changed in her 18th year. Although all fairy kind get the danger of the Chromatic Dragons drilled into them from a very young age, it was driven home when her father went for a routine inspection tour of their defences. One of the outer forts has been hit badly in an attack, and was one of the first places the King wanted to inspect so that the appropriate resources could be sent for the repair, or rebuild. However. The Chromatic Dragons presses the advantage, and neither the Dragon Knights, nor the Dragons posted there had recovered enough to put up a full defence. The fort, it’s defenders, and the King were lost that day rocking the kingdom to its core.
The kingdom was in uproar. Fear spread like poison, suddenly the Chromatic Dragon threat was tangible. Something that could happen to any fairy. The Queen tried her best, and Jasleen also stepped up into her role as Crown Princess, and even her little brother did his best, not that a 12 year old could do all hat much. But it wasn’t enough. Fairies didn’t fight, their focus was beauty, becoming the treasures of he Metallic Dragons. The Dragon population had ever been small, and with their long lifespans the young stayed young for too long to bolster their numbers to fight. Even their outsider allies were becoming hard pressed to be motivated to keep sending aid to a battle that never seemed to have an end.
The fear was an ugly stain in their beautiful populace. This even Jasleen could see. And fighting was even uglier- she had watched the dragon knights doing it. But they desperately needed some way to help both the fear and to bolster fighting numbers. But no matter how hard she tried, recruiting the fairies to fight was an uphill battle. None of them would take it upon themselves to do something so unbeautiful.
Faced with impossible choices, it was a chance rumour that finally spurred her to action. Strolling through the gardens she overheard a couple of courtiers muttering about how it was the kings fault that dirt fell. That if the people posted there weren’t so busy protecting the King they might’ve stood a chance. The official story is that the Princess has gone to personally petition their allies for aid. The truth is she has enlisted as a Dragon Knight trainee determined to make war beautiful, as well as to ensure no one could ever accuse her of being helpless.
