    Chaos reigned.

Looking down at the sea of undead that was attacking the base, Salem felt the anticipation tingling along his spine. Even as he watched the ground team eliminate one Behemoth, he saw two more along the perimeter of the wall among the rest of the infected. Sighting in one one of them, he watched as they rammed the concrete wall with enough force to dent the concrete. The amount of force required to do that was staggering. Again and again, they rammed the wall as he considered taking the shot. But he’d seen what it had taken to eliminate the first one, and even though he was certain he could make the shot, he was less sure they could put enough rounds in both heads before the wall broke down. He knew that it wouldn’t be long until they began to flood inside the base, where they would then be able to diverge with some of them disappearing into hidey holes elsewhere that would have to be searched.

Darryl’s words snapped Crow back into the moment, making him shake his head in response. A quick check ensured his weapons had fresh magazines, and after taking a breath, he proceeded to fast-rope onto the building.

The moment his feet touched the ground, his rifle was in his hands as he double checked to make sure the rooftop was secure. While he looked around, one of the Marine snipers got up from his position to meet with the new arrivals.

“I don’t know who the hell you guys are, but we’re damned glad for the reinforcements. I’m Sergeant Major Leon Jameson Grimm, USMC.” The marine said, shaking hands with Salem, then Darryl.

“You’re going to need a hell of a lot more in a minute. There’s a couple of big ones about to break into the Eastern wall. We need to eliminate them, repair the damage, then reinforce the wall. After that, we’ll need to secure the base.” Salem responded, even as Grimm cocked his head to the side and raised an eyebrow.

“And who the hell are you? General Patton?” Grimm asked sarcastically.

“Captain Salem Crow, U.S. Army Special Forces. You the one in charge?” Salem asked, walking towards the eastern edge of the building.

“I’ve taken control of the situation temporarily, but there’s probably some higher ranking officers around.” Grimm said, watching as he moved.

Salem chuckled at the sergeant major’s words. “Of course you have. Shit rolls downhill, right?” Even as he spoke, he heard saw a sudden flood of infected inside the wall. “Shit, we need to cut them off and stem the flow. Got any assets we can use?”

“There's a few Humvees down there with mounted weapons, couple of LAV’s.” Grimm said, observing the situation as the gunfire increased. “Just tell me what you need.”

“You just give us some cover. See if you can get your gunners to stem the flow. Keep an eye out for an armored Jeep, they're friends of ours.” Salem said, then looked to Darryl. “You joining me on the ground, or providing additional sniper support? If I can reach an LAV and get it rolling, we could block the hole. Maybe get the chopper to draw some of them away a klick or two away at least.”

Even as he said it a sudden movement to the right revealed a pack of Hunters suddenly on the rooftop. “Shit!” Salem said even as he lined up his first shot, firing on instinct just as it leapt for him, taking it down. “Hostiles on the rooftops!”

Before Darryl could introduce himself he was cut off by the sounds of more zombies. His attentions went to the hunters that were on the roof, flipping his hybrid sight to holographic red dot mode he opened fire, a few quick trigger pulls sent three bullets into the neck of one, causing it to drop. As he fought alongside the Marines and Salem the helicopter came over, and Katie fired from the door gun, finishing off the Hunters. "Go for it" Bryce's voice came over the radio, Darryl realizing he still had his earpiece in. "Copy that, me and Salem are making a break for the LAVs, keep us covered if possible" he said over his radio. "Let's go, Army boy" Darryl said, running to the edge, setting up his rope and rappelling down the side of the building.

Bryce brought his helicopter around so Katie could provide covering fire for them. "I'm down to my last 500 rounds, we wont last long up here" she said, firing in short, controlled bursts. "Alright, we'll need to land soon then" Bryce said. Katie took a moment to lean out of the helicopter and look at Kenny. "We'll have to land soon, so finish up or get back in and finish on the ground, up to you sweetie" she said, before going back to providing close air support.

Tommy looked through his sniper scope. The faintest glint of sunlight illuminated a zombie. *BANG!* the bullet pierced its skull. two more zombies rushed out as Katie could be seen continuing to fire. "what the fuck is going on, they're swarming" said Tommy.

but before he could move, a tremor was felt. something had been awakened.

Andi crawled over the driver's seat, dragging her backpack behind her, and exited the jeep after Zeke and Runa. For the briefest moment she felt relief...they had made it inside the base's gates with all their limbs intact. Not to mention successfully killing the Behemoth. But the feeling of safety was short lived as the sound of gunfire erupted and the pounding of hundreds of undead feet resounded against the paved ground. With dread filling her, she watched as a group of hunters were shot down from the roof, their bodies riddled with bullets by the crew she had seen earlier at the airport. If the creatures were on the roof, that meant the fence would not stop them. She barely had time to digest this information before more gunfire sounded.

"Oh shit...bloody hell..." she exclaimed as the large horde of creatures that had broken though the wall came into view. Mixed in their ranks were two more of the enormous infected...and she instinctually shied away from them, retreating further from the vehicle and closer to Zeke. She pulled her Glock from the shoulder holster and took careful aim. She couldn't remember her exact bullet count but she knew she was low. Using both hands and sighting down the barrel, she squeezed off a shot. Instinct told her to run...it was the one thing she could do well...but she stood her ground, hoping to make a difference, however small.

Reaching down, she pulled her tire iron from her backpack, tucking it into her belt for later use. She chanced a glance at Zeke, hoping this new threat put a sense of urgency in his typical carefree ways. "Any ideas?" she asked, taking aim again. It took less than a minute to empty her clip...only five bullets had been left. She slapped in a new one and backed up another step.

Tommy aimed at one of the infected and fired. it fell before Andi's feet. Tommy reloaded and fired another shot. another infected fell down. then the gun jammed. "shit" Tommy thought as the infected turned to face him.
Tommy tried to draw the rest away from Andi and tried to fix the jam along the way. He racked the slide and tried to eject a new round. when that failed, he got a tire iron and tried to pry it open. The bullet fell to the ground and the slide worked. He loaded a new stripper clip and fired 2 more bullets at the chasing infected, dropping them like flies. Looking quickly for more enemies and seeing none, Tommy ran back to Andi. "are you ok?" he asked

Runa quickly grabbed her rifle and bag off the backseat and exited the vehicle just behind Zeke, grinning at Zeke’s loud remark. She walked past him and patted his shoulder “Keep it in your pants cowboy.” She said with a playful smirk, which didn’t last long. She heard a crash, then what sounded like a stampede, and within seconds a large group of undead rushed through a gap in the wall. “Son of a bitch.” She said with a hint of southern drawl, before sighing in frustration and raising her rifle. She switched to semi-auto and began popping off single shots into the infected at the front of the pack. She backpeddled till she got to Zeke, Andi, and the soldier next to her “Andi, Zeke, you two should pull back to a safer position, I’ll hold them here until you get to cover then I’ll pull back. Soldier boy, you can stick with me and help hold them or you can make sure they get to safety.” She said while firing at the encroaching undead.

Runa didn’t wait around for a response, nor did she check to see if they listened. She took a knee and kept firing until her mag was empty. And of course just after she fired her last round she spotted a hunter sprinting towards her, meaning she had no time to reload. She cursed softly to herself and got to her feet, drawing her sword and taking a defensive stance as the creature neared. She took a deep breath, and focused on her approaching opponent, drowning out the gunfire and noise around her. Had this been one of the normal infected, she would be able to take care of it easy enough, but the fast ones were different, it seemed they could still think. She waited till the creature was within a few inches before sidestepping and extending her blade towards its midsection. She was caught a little off guard when the creature itself also lunged to the side, causing her blade to miss. She quickly whirled around as the infected ran at her again. It had anticipated her swing, she’d have to use that to her advantage. As it neared again she swung at the hunters head level, this time causing it to duck. Using the momentum of the swing she spun and kicked behind her, bringing her heel straight into the side of its head. The infected stumbled and fell on its face, and before it could react she jammed her blade through the base of its skull.

As soon as she pulled her blade free she spotted four more of the normal infected coming straight for her. She didn’t have much time to react as they had already been within arms reach by the time she saw them. She quickly sidestepped a lunge from one of them, before delivering a kick to its knee. An audible snap was heard as it’s knee bent at an unnatural angle and the infected fell to the ground. Before she could finish it off two more lunged for her, causing her to leap backward to avoid getting grabbed. She delivered a kick to the chin of the nearest one, knocking it backward into the one behind it. That bought her some time, and she used to to quickly behead the one that was still close to her. The last two rushed her, she sidestepped the first, using its momentum and swinging upward and cutting through its head, before jabbing the blade through the second ones open mouth. She pulled her blade free, and the body fell limp at her feet, before making her way to the disabled infected that was attempting to crawl and stomping its head in. She turned to face the oncoming infected, a manic grin spread across her blood smeared face. “What a lovely day.” She said, echoing Zeke’s words to herself.

Martin quickly glanced behind him at the sound of “Hostiles on the rooftops.” Just in time to watch a pack of hunter get gunned down. This was bad, the fence was breached, and the infected poured in through the gap like a flood. He returned to firing at the horde as he shouted to Brady, “Got any ideas?” When he didn’t receive and answer he looked at his partner, who was busy gawking at a cute redhead who was going samurai on a group of living corpses. He clapped Brady on the shoulder, “Pay attention, you can be a perve later.” Brady stuttered something about just thinking her moves were impressive before going back to gunning down the dead. Martin shook his head and returned to firing on the nearest infected.

After a moment he heard a soldier behind him a ways scream, causing him to spin on his heel in time to see a hunter tackle him to the ground. Martin dashed towards the screaming soldier with Brady hot on his heels. When he got close he raised his rifle towards the creatures head, and pulled the trigger, click. “You’ve got to be kidding me.” He said flipping his weapon around and holding like by the barrel, before swinging the stock as hard as he could into the hunters head. This was enough to get it off the soldier, but it wasn’t dead yet. Martin grabbed the soldier by his vest and hauled him to his feet, noting the blood leaking from his forearm, but not really thinking much of it.

By now the hunter was now back to its feet, growling before running at them, only to have it’s head explode after running about two feet. Martin, who’s right ear was now ringing, glared at Brady, who stood just to Martin’s right and behind him a couple of inches with his shotgun still aimed at where the hunter just stood. Plastered on the rookie cops face was a triumphant grin. “We’ll get you a medal later hotshot, but first let’s get this guy to a corpsman.” Martin said as he guided the wounded marine to a safer location. He led the marine to a spot behind some cover near the Jeep that had pulled in few minutes ago. “Wait here, keep pressure on the wound, and check your target cause there are friendlies between you and the wall.” The marine nodded with a “Yes sir.” Martin patted the marine’s shoulder before running off towards the nearest group of soldiers with Brady in tow. Hopefully they would know where a corpsman was.

So much craziness was going on around him that Zeke almost forgot the world had ended and zombies were out to eat them. He looked around at the others who had joined him, Andi, and Runa by the jeep. Some solider boy and a couple of cops. Two deaders had attacked Runa, but were quickly dispatched by the redhead. He was glad to have her around two deaders who were coming after Andi were killed by the soldier boy.

That was enough to get Zeke back to reality. Quickly holstering his pistol he drew the boy and quickly yanked a grenade off the body of a dead solider. "Shit's goin' down here kiddies! We need high ground and big damn barrier to bottleneck these fucks for easy killin'! Everyone back to the building, grab any ammo or explosives ya can!" He quickly tied the grenade to an arrow then pulled the pin. He let it cook for a few seconds then launched it into the middle of a forerunner group, six deadheads coming full bore at them. But the wily cowboy had timed it perfect...or as perfect as you can. The grenade exploded and peppered or obliterated the six zombies grazing a few others.

He grabbed some more clips of ammos that he could give to someone else and whatever else he could manage. He'd be abandoning the Ragged Lady, but she was tough, she'd survive the freaks. Still he jumped back into the vehicle and clambered into the back grabbing his smaller bugout bag and the large supplies bag which held medkits, other kinds of ammo, and various bits and bobs he'd need. Scrambling out again he saw the deaders were regrouping and the resistance of the humans was slowly faltering as the bodies of the undead were outnumbering the bullets of the defenders. If there were zombies on the roof which the southerner would guess is the case considering the amount of gunfire and shouting coming from above them. Then the zombies were already in the complex, but with any luck the narrow corridors would allow them to pick the deadheads off easier.

He slammed the door of his jeep and locked it before he poked his head around the back of his jeep.
"Hey can any of you move? We gotta get gone before those big'uns get through!"

In the few seconds since her arrival at Zeke's side, Andi's head started pounding, her ears ringing as the gunfire continued around her. She was overwhelmed and felt more like a spectator, merely watching events unfold before her, her gun hanging loosely at her side now that others were fighting the threat. A body dropped at her feet, a tall man in camo suddenly at her side...speaking to her...his voice barely discernible over the din in the background. Although she looked at him, she didn't respond verbally, merely nodding, her attention now diverted to Runa as she fought the undead. Andi raised her pistol to assist, but feared hitting the woman, and allowed her hand to relax again. Even the arrival of two policemen assisting a wounded marine did little to rouse her stupor. It wasn't until Zeke set a grenade off, scattering a group of the infected, that she was able to gather her wits about herself again. The heat of the explosion and the bits of flesh slapping against the ground were like a sharp slap across her face. The man truly was crazy...and he would most likely survive this mess...but she had doubts about herself.

"In the building..." she repeated, "..find explosives." It was the same as at the high school, using fire to slow down their advance. She could do that. Without further prompting, she ran towards the entrance, pausing when she noticed the wounded marine leaning against the building in the shadows. His head was lolling and he could barely keep his feet under him. He was a dead man walking--that's what Sergeant Winslow called those that were bitten--but she couldn't just leave him out here. She crossed to him, draping his arm over her shoulder and leading him inside, already feeling the heat of the infection on his body.

"Is there somewhere you can rest?" she asked him, and he directed her down the hall with a weak thrust of his head. She was bearing most of his weight by the time they reached a small sitting area--most likely a break room. She eased his barely conscious form into a chair and sat across from him, watching the rise and fall of his chest. Bad idea Andi...now what? she asked herself. He was dying and she would have to finish it. Which meant she couldn't leave him. She was mulling over her choices when she heard the thump of metal on the table top. The young soldier forced his head up and met her gaze, his grey-blue eyes shot through with streaks of red. He mouthed please and turned his attention to the weapon he had placed on the Formica surface. She nodded, knowing it was necessary, but wishing it didn't have to be her that did it. For several moments she just continued to watch him, then with shaky legs, she stood, taking the gun into her unsteady hand and pressing it to the back of his head. He sighed and she closed her eyes, squeezing the trigger before she could change her mind.

Andi didn't know how long she sat in that room looking at the dead marine before her, his weapon still in her hand, but it was long enough that she had examined the contents of the small space and cataloged them. She finally rose, stripping the soldier of his AR-15 and ammunition both for it and the handgun. She then went to a rolling cart and grabbed a plastic bag of Styrofoam cups that rested beside a coffee pot. Gasoline would be easy enough to find...as well as glass containers. What she needed to do now was find Zeke.
