With the Deathclaws as close as they were ever likely to get, Stephen did not have the luxury of giving Nikola more time. "Keep that ass moving, Nikola!" he yelled. "Rhea, close!" This was the last warning anyone would get. Yanking the pin out of the grenade, he waited half a second before throwing it between the two irradiated beasts. As soon as it hit the ground, he grabbed another, once more removing the pin and lobbing it at the Deathclaws. That was all he had time for. With the grenades set to explode in the next couple of seconds, he whirled on his heel and bolted for the library, Rhea well ahead of him.

To say he was between a rock and a hard place would be an understatement. Being between two death claws was way worse. Deathclaws were as deadly as they were fast. Honestly, Nikola couldn't believe it hadn't cut him down already, considering one was chasing him. Now that the two monsters were together, he had to keep them together for Stephen's plan to work. "Just keep running, just keep running..." he whispered as he dove to the side to avoid becoming the first deathclaw's food delivery. One good shot was all he needed and that's what he had a pip-boy for. The laser from his pistol went straight for the deathclaw's eye, thanks to a little aim assist. Hopefully this would stun the beast, maybe make him run into his friend. However, the second grenade was already on its way and Nikola scrambled towards the library. In his scrambling to get to cover, a raised piece of asphalt made him trip just outside the entrance to the building and he figured that would be as close as he could get before the explosion. Nikola braced himself, hoping he could keep a low profile to avoid any shrapnel that would come his way.

With only seconds to spare, Nikola ducked out of the way, and the Deathclaws almost collided. The well placed shot from his laser stunned one, the other had to readjust its massive body, before it found Nikola and started for him again. In this time, however, a grenade landed between the two beasts, and then another. Just after the second landed, a shattering explosion happened.

Joe was the first one to run for the library, he pushed open the rotting door and almost fell inside. He made his way behind a bookshelf, before hearing the shock of the explosion. He looked up, and was relieved to see that Dani and Stephen had also made their way inside.

    "Shit, wheres Nikola?" Joe shouted.

After the grenades exploded, some dust fell over Nikola's prone body, and his ears were ringing, but he was otherwise uninjured. Looking up, the two Deathclaws were stunned, including the one that was about to come after him. The other one appeared to be very injured.

It only took a few moments for the second to regain its composure, and it let out a roar in Nikola's direction.

Now it was time to hope Joe was right, and there was a back exit in the library.
There's a black crow sitting across from me
    His wiry legs are crossed
He's dangling my keys, he even fakes a toss
    Whatever could it be
That has brought me to this loss?

Dani watched with baited breath as Nikola took a dive and the Deathclaws started after him. She clenched her eyes shut and covered her ears as the explosion rocked the building and sent debris over Nikolas Body. "Nikola!" Her heart pounded as she waited for the dust to clear to see if he was alive.

He seemed uninjured and relief washed over her, before she looked up to see both of the Deathclaws still standing. "Fuck. Nikola! Damnit get in here!!" She instinctively darted out the door to drag his ass into the building.

Stephen glanced briefly over his shoulder at Dani as she ran out to help Nikola, but he did not pay them any further thought. They could handle themselves - the bigger priority was to find the back exit of the library. They'd all be dead anyway if there wasn't an obvious way out. He kept a grenade in his hand, ready just in case, but he gave the rest of his attention to navigating the fallen shelves and scattered Old World books to find an exit.

Nikola's ears rang as the dust settled. As he slowly opened his eyes, his glasses were covered in dust. He heard muffled yelling that he couldn't make out that was interrupted by something louder. A roar maybe? Not good. He forced himself up, albeit slower than he probably should have thanks to his dazed state, but not before Dani got to him. That's when he gained the clarity to process what had happened. He hadn't died, so that was a positive, but it seemed the deathclaws hadn't died either. Once Dani had helped him into the library, he tried to get the dust off his glasses before the pissed off deathclaws had a chance to run them down but the dust was stubborn. A quick blow and a rub only seamed to smear the sediment so he had to make due. He grabbed Dani's hand as they hurriedly made their way through the library, hoping she would stay close so he could emulate her movements and avoid tripping over the clutter or hitting his head on something.

As soon as Dani ran out the door, Joe snapped into action, and turned around about the same time as Stephen, with the same goal. Find an exit.

Joe lost Stephen in the darkness and between the collapsed bookshelves, but made his way to the back, almost stumbling upon a door with a sign above it.

    EXIT

If Joe wasn't fighting for his life, he would have laughed at it. "Stephen over here!" he shouted, pushing the door open, and allowing the sunlight to come in.

Behind him he heard rapid footsteps, and larger, pounding ones in chase. The uninjured Deathclaw was in hot pursuit of Dani and Nikola, and busted down the rotting wooden doors as it smashed its way into the library.

Joe almost dived out the door, and turned around with his shotgun as he waited for the others.

Dani pulled Nikola back through the door with one of the deathclaws following close behind. Nikola took her hand and she flinched and looked back at him quizzically before realizing he couldn't see. She squeezed his hand reassuringly and led him through the debris and fallen shelves. "Stay close Niki boy." She moved as quickly as she could and dove past Joe who was facing the building with shotgun ready.

Stephen had made it out the door not long after Joe, and in the few seconds he had to spare while waiting for Dani and Nikola, began shifting through his pack. Rhea backed anxiously away from the doorway, desperately wanting to put more distance between them and the angry Deathclaws tearing through the library. Just after Dani burst through, Stephen pulled a frag mine from his pack, triggered it, and tossed it into the building behind them. It landed just inside, followed closely by a second, which was more than good enough for Stephen. "That's gonna have to be good enough, let's go!"

Nikola followed Dani through the library just as fast as she led him. Despite clumsily stumbling over every piece of debris carelessly littered throughout, Dani supported him and helped him keep up pace. The deathclaw exploded through the doorway and the splintered wood and wall fragments permeated the room as if they were the embodiment of the hunter's primal rage reaching and feeling for its prey. Sure enough, the deathclaw pursued relentlessly. As Dani led him through the exit, Nikola heard Stephen say "That's gonna have to be good enough, let's go!"

He wasn't sure what was going to be good enough, but knowing Stephen, he braced for something explosive.
