Jack had climbed down to retrieve her hatchet, and heard Captain Moon's order as she was slipping it back into her belt. She looked up quizzically, as the mizzen was the third mast, while most of the wind would be better caught by the foresail and the mainsail - but she was the captain.

"Aye, aye, captain!" she said hoarsely, pulling out her bosun call and piping in 'mizzen sail half' and 'mizzen top half' before joining the mizzen crew climbing the shroud lines.

"Reef them sails!" she ordered. "Capt'n wants them short!"

Lucy joined the flurry of activity to get the ship underway. Only once the sails were in position and the ship headed out to the open sea did she head below to get settled in her quarters.

It was a small room, empty but for a chest of drawers bolted to the floor and a hammock strung next to the aft wall. Having traveled light, she didn't have much to unpack: a few changes of clothes, basic toiletries, a medical kit, and a few books on navigation, marine life, and a few other topics she thought might prove useful on the journey. The books she piled underneath the hammock; everything else fit in the dresser.

Lastly, she changed out of her land clothes, choosing a loose shirt made of sturdy cotton, a comfortable pair of trousers that just reached her knees, and a wide brimmed hat to keep the sun off. She slipped off her shoes and stockings and stowed them in the bottom drawer, where they'd stay until the weather got too cold to walk barefoot.

With one last look around the room, she headed back to join the others, and a few minutes later she was standing at the prow, watching the sea spread out before her, feeling the wind on her face and the rocking of the ship. This, she realized, was what she lived for.

Voting aboard a pirate ship wasn't an uncommon thing. Most ships ran with the crew in the position which best suited their skills. When it came to jobs the crew had their say though ultimately it was the Captain who got the final word in. A good Captain would agree with the crew most of the time unless they felt strongly about the opposite choice. Even then it only happened rarely. Standing there she watched as the weapons were divided between the two of them with her coming out on top. A smirk came to her face at the Captain's proclamation of First Mate and Bosun. Then with Moon ordering them to make way Avril followed up with giving more precise directions getting the crew started. They were a good crew and needed little prodding.

She noticed the messenger making his way onto the ship with her duffle bag. “Take that to my quarters would you?” She said, then walked up to the navigation deck and stood next to Moon. “Where are we heading Captain?”

Another round of bullets hits my skin. Well, fire away
Cause today, I won't let the shame sink in. We are bursting through
the barricades and reaching for the sun.

John set about taking stock of their supplies as they cast off, inspecting the weapons and powder storage area. He took notes as he did, noting the things that required special care or replacement, and moved any powder-kegs that looked like they might possibly get wet. From there, he set about making a list of how much of each supplies there were, labeling and organizing them until they were easily recognizable and ready for instant use. With that done, he began inspecting the interior of the ship for damages and found very little that required fixing, and conferred with the cook to ensure they had all the food and drink necessary for their voyage.

Once he had done a complete inventory and inspection, he found some crew-members that weren't working the deck and set them to work on the repairs. That done, he took his notes and inventory list and returned to the deck, where he found the crew well underway and the Captain already giving orders.

"I've completed an inventory of our supplies as well as an inspection of the ship and materials; I've set some crewmates to making some minor repairs belowdecks, but nothing overly serious. Other than a couple of rifles that need replacing, most everything else will simply require some oil and elbow grease. Otherwise this ship is more than ready for voyage." he stated, offering the notes if she so desired.

When the watch ended, Jack headed below deck to find her sea bag, still hanging from a hook. There were rings screwed into the overhead, most lubbers assumed it was for handholds, but it was for hammocks, which would be put up at nightfall.

The knot keeping it closed looked a little lopsided, but it hadn't dropped its surprise. She really needed to get her hands on a proper sea chest. Her most prized possessions were at the bottom of the sea bag, a pair of sea chest beckets she'd slaved over under the watchful eye of the Bosun.

Sitting down against the bulkhead, she sighed and massaged her feet. What would her mother say if she saw how hairy and muscular her daughter's legs had become? No amount of padding would conceal that long! But then, her mother would know if her Father made it back....

Jack sighed, burying her face in her rough, calloused and definitely unladylike hands. So much for spending a month on dry land to sleep and... sleep, hopped aboard the first ship heading out.
