STALKER: ON A ROADSIDE PICNIC

If you come back with swag – It’s a Miracle. If you come back alive – It’s a Success. If a patrol bullets miss you – It’s Luck. And as for everething else – That’s fate.

Thirteen years ago our world was visited by odd alien forces leaving behind six areas in USA, Klamath Falls; Harmont, Canada; Saysu, China; Toulouse, France; Derbent, Russia; and Sapparo, Japan, in these Zones very laws of physics and known science have gone insane.

Entire cities vannished. Hundreds of thousands were lost. Scientists were baffled. Armies were helpsless and leaders powerless. The world deemed these regions too dangerous and demanded the them to be clossed off and to be fogotten.

They are now known as "The Forbidden Zones", or just simple "Zones". Society around the area of the crumbled many left, others were drawn. Borderlands are now the frontiers of human civilization.

These days Zones are guarded by shadowy organization known as IEC (Institute of Extra-Terrestrial Cultures), or just "The Institute" as they are more commonly known. They playing ruthless political games with the very future of humanity.

Artefacts are relics and tools of alien culture. They could easily disturb the local global economy, politics, or millatary ballance of the world.

Stalker are criminals who defy the dangers of the zone and the firearms of The Institute guards to search artefacts from beyond the borders of the zone. Heroes, villains or rogues they have ventured beyond the zones than anyone else.

THE RP

This game will be taking place in same universe as a book by the name roadside picnic that was released in 1972 and was written by Arkady and Boris Strugatsky. There was a movie as well in 1979 directed by Andrei Tarkovski and screen written by Strugatsky brothers, but most of you might be more familiar with hit pc game series S.T.A.L.K.E.R. that is not set in same setting as the roadside picnic it is its own thing.

Players will be taking the role of a stalker who operates in Toulouse, France. Each of which come to the zone for their own reasons. Their reason should not just be monitary how ever that is not really interesting character motivation. There can be multiple players in similar roles but is recommended to go to the zone with a well rounded group with variety of skills and abilities. In order to become a player you need to claim a slot, but before you do keep in mind.

• Game is very deadly
• Injuries are descriped in very scientific detail and can be disturping
• This is minimum weekly update so its a slow game that will take some time to play
• You don't need to know anything about the setting everyone is free to join in

Spoiler: Challenge vs Contest whats a difference? 

Actions against a situtation is a Challenge both Challenge and the Contest are given a difficulty rating that players must meet or beat. Rating unknown to the players. If you fail it is not just a failure but differing degrees of failure so being a try hard pays off.

Your score are given by gm how good your idea and roleplaying is. These scores i give out so you know how well you did. The hardest tasks require an ability in order to even remotly succeed.

Challange: Repair a car

First gm sets the difficulty rating - one of the players has a mechanic ability and says he is going to look for spare parts from surounding cars. gm knows nothing about cars so gives an idea 4 it is also something mechanic would thought up and would give idea a 4 or 5. This makes a score a 15 It is a success and they find required parts.

Contest:Mugg the elderly

Like in a Challange of repairing a car contests are given a challange rating. given that a elderly usually are weak but they are also possible by standers gm gives it a rating of 5.

Player decides that he just takes the bag from the old lady. he has no abilities what so ever and idea is a dumb one he gets the idea of 1 and roleplaying of 2 that makes a score 2 and is a failure.

In a scenario b player guides the elder to alley where there are no on lookers and other player helps player a to knock out the elder. they get a 4 for their idea and get a 5 for roleplaying that makes a score 20 and they pass the contest with flying colours.

Format

• Name, Stalker alias, role, gemder, age, nationality, age, height, weight, basic appearence (you can use a photo but description through text is required)
• background story - childhood, education, career, and how and why they became a starlker

Follow these instructions.
1) pick a role in a table.
2) pick your age. older you are more abilities you have but you alse have more drawbacks.
3) next figure out how many abilities you have.

• childhood 0-10 - +3 abilities
• education 11-20 - + 3 abilites
• career 20+ - +3 abilities
• hobby/talent - +1 ability

Example stalker in his teens would have around 4-6 abilities where as a wounded war veteran would have full 10.

4) now you need to write backstory from your childhood to how and why you became a stalker in a first place.
5) Now you need to choose abilities that fit your character's back story be creative with this Imagine you are making perk mod for a fallout new vegas.
6) Now you need a drawbacks each ability you get one drawback it doesn't need to be related to an ability. it can be an enemy to physical injury and can also be a traumatic experience.
(both ability and drawback descriptions needs to be short and clear.
7) Wealth and equipment. stalkers may have a home, maybe several maybe non, but every stalker has a safehouse that they only know about.Please detail where homes/safehouses are (country, city). Bank assets? Property? Investments? Nada? You choose. The cash in your pocket you start with shall be calculated by myself based upon your Abiltiies in a way it makes sense and are related in finance maybe burglury has brought them fair sum of cash or their were business mogul and has made them a fortune.

The game will start with everyone arriving in Toulouse. If a Stalker has had to arrive by airplane then their starting equipment shall be minimal. Only in extremely rare cases shall a Stalker from outside Japan be allowed a weapon to begin with.

What do Stalkers carry? Well, don't bother yourself with this too much yet. Your characters will have a chance to tool up before entering the zone. Just list the essentials your character would have on them at all times. The Boss and the Robot should have some kind of weapon that is concealable. Other party members do not really need weapons at this stage, but if you have a good reason to have one, it could be allowed.
