It’s intimidating ya know? To stand in front of both God and Lucifer to be judged. Especially when you are the last one, the last human left. Who would have thought the end of days was real, and came right before the series finale of Game of Thrones. There’s got to be a lot of pissed off angels and demons now right? The small girl shifted her weight from one foot to the other under the gaze of these beings. It was hard not to be nervous. Besides she had seen the other get taken, they didn’t have to stand face to face with them? Why her, why now?
After a few tense seconds the beings looked at each other, this had never happened before. Neutral. Pure neutral. She was the only soul that had ever come across that was neither good enough for Heaven nor bad enough for Hell. Lucifer was the first to speak.
“Have you ever stolen anything?”
“No.”
“Saved someone’s life?” God continued the questioning.
“No.”
This type of questioning went on for what felt like hours, no one making progress in either direction. Her feet were starting to ache, her head and eyes strained from staring at the beings. God was almost completely pure light, do you know what that does to someone’s eyesight? Staring at the sun hurt less. They were no closer to choosing where to send her soul for eternity when the girl sighed and sat down. She was growing bored of this. It was no longer terrifying, just tedious.
“Are we almost done here?”
“No.” They spoke in unison their voices booming causing her growing headache to only worsen.
“Can I ask a question then?”
This was unexpected. God nodded as Lucifer crossed his arms waiting.
“Have you two ever been judged?”
“….”
“How many have been killed in your names? How many families have you torn apart? How many have you saved? Is there a balance there? You seem to be completely confused by neutrality when, in reality, that’s what you should have been?”
“You realize you are lecturing God right?” Lucifer asked a small smirk tugging at his lips, he liked her. Maybe she should go to Hell.
“My child you seem to worry a lot about others….” God said, keeping a straight face as if she wasn’t blaming them for death and destruction of the whole world.
“No. I only worry about balance.”
As she spoke she looked up at them, her face was starting to change. Her hair formed into a hood and suddenly she was completely cloaked in black. Only a partial jaw bone exposed to the light.
“You two have lasted much longer than you should have. It is time.”
Her voice was airy, neither feminine nor masculine now. She stood and outstretched her skeletal hand to them. Death had come for all, and now was here for them.
“Do not fear, I do not judge you as you have judged so many. I do not have a need for that.”
The two beings looked at each other then at her hands, perhaps it was time.
“Please hurry along, you can’t keep death waiting.”
