Melody was slightly shaking, partly due to the cold water she was laying in and partly because she was scared. There were too many things going on right now. She used her powers unknowingly, there was a task force team on her tail, and she actually felt terrible for making this soldier witness what she could do. By the look on his face he was shocked to see something like this and for some odd reason she didn't want him to fear her, but then again she didn't want anyone to fear her. She wasn't a monster.
When he looked down at her and finally met her eyes, Melody held his gaze, searching his eyes for any hint of what he might do next. At this moment she noticed his eyes were blue, like hers, and they didn't look threatening. He asked her to trust him and it actually sounded sincere so she let him do whatever it is he was going to do. After all, she couldn't get past him because she wasn't strong enough and for the time being Melody seemed to have bought them some time. While the soldier was rummaging for something in his pockets, Melody took this moment to glance back at the floating bullets. She had no idea she could do something like this and for the first time her powers peaked her interest.
She noticed one of the bullets floating dangerously close to the soldier's shoulder. Melody figured that she could control the bullets with her mind enough to keep them afloat or better yet move them away from them. Since the soldier was helping her now, she decided to do the same for him and so she concentrated on the bullet next to his shoulder and made it drop into the water while keeping the other bullets afloat. Actually proud of herself for the first time in a long time, she was about to smile at her work until the soldier snapped her out of her thoughts by hooking something onto her wrist. She looked back at him, "Trust me" he said to her again and it was a wristband he had placed around her wrist.
Melody could tell the soldier was doing his best to stay calm and at the same time keep her calm. She appreciated his efforts and when he moved off of her she sat up and glanced down at her wrist to examine the wristband. This was impressive technology, making someone invisible. Nothing like what the Exiled could obtain, and to be honest, if someone more dangerous than her got their hands on this, there is no telling what could happen.
She listened to his instructions and nodded at him to show him she understood. When he took off, Melody finally stood up and out of the water, her clothes drenched and her hair sticking to her face but it didn't matter. Right now, they both had to survive this so she ran after him and finally heard the bullets that were floating in the air drop into the water. There were voices now following behind them. Soldiers yelling commands and trying to figure out where they need to go to find them.
She did her best to keep up with the soldier in front her all the while thinking that what he's doing right now could cost him his job, his status within the society behind the barrier. He could get exiled like her or even worse, killed for betrayal. Melody didn't know the guy at all, he had no reason to help her but here he was, saving her life. This made her worry for him. She didn't want to cost anyone their life, she didn't see herself as being worth that much. As she ran after him she noticed drops of blood sliding down his arm.
After a few more moments of running, Melody had to stop him. She reached out her hand and grabbed his arm as gently as she could so not to take him by surprise. "Hey....you're bleeding. Are you alright?" she wondered, looking at him intensely. Then Melody heard something coming from deeper within the woods. With her hand still curled around the soldier's arm, she looked in the direction of the noise and frowned. She knew exactly what it was. Then the sound of the task force approaching made her look behind her. The soldier and herself were about to be caught in the middle of something potentially deadly.
Melody looked back at the soldier sharply, "Now it's time for you to trust me" she spoke to him and pulled him by the arm to follow her. "Quickly! We don't want to be here" she told him and led both of them a few yards to the left into the forest, she knew they were both invisible but she still had them hide behind the biggest tree she could find. She pushed the soldier up against the trunk and stood in front him one of her hands shooting up to her face with her finger on her lips letting the soldier know to be quiet.
The noises coming from the woods became louder and so did the voices of the task force. In moments there was a crackling sound as if trees were breaking and falling to the ground and a huge fire ball flew right past the tree where Melody and the soldier were standing. Melody gasped and instinctively pressed herself against the soldier to try and avoid the fire. The group of Exiled Melody was staying with must have picked up on the commotion and came out to chase off the task force.
Melody looked up at the soldier. "I know these guys, they're dangerous and will kill your team. If you need to go, now is the time to do it. While they're fighting you can sneak around and join your team and then pretend like you just got here. They will never know" Melody spoke quickly but quietly so that no one would hear them. "And um......" she swallowed. "Thank you, really" she said to him and then moved back a little to let him go if he chose to.
