Default The Second Sisters Faculty of Magic and the Occult Sciences - {OOC} {M}

This roleplay is rated M for the following: Possible Violence, Possible Language, Possible Blood and Gore, Possible Alcohol Usage, Potential Sexual or Suggestive Themes

Spoiler: If you want to Set the Scene

    The dawn's shining now.

It warms the air around him and pushes back all that was yesterday.

    His eyes close.

And the noises he carries are churned into one another and pounding out now into the dawn.

They crash over the hills and through the woods and down into the stream that runs through Dunsinane.

She will be waking up to her burning termagants.

Smell the smoke and hear the embers.

And she'd know that it was him

In the dawn he is barely the man he was yesterday.

    Poisonous his envy

    inescapable his crime

and the air is whispering still

    The Thane has a knife

They will never see the full morning
    .

    The Highlands Stretch on forever.

Unyielding land that's so resistantly solid it hurts to simply take a step, seeps all the way to the horizon where even the sky struggles to determine it's end. The Heavens sent down the fog, and the mists to further conceal the wretched earths cruel infinitude.

A harsh jolt of pain ran up her legs and rattled through her bones with each step she took upon the stony ground. The corpse she dragged behind her made ugly thumping and bumping sounds as it was hauled across the plain. She cannot see through her tears or haar, but she knows where she is going.

    By her life,

    the sister will be buried.

And that's when it starts. Through the hurt and the suffering. The suffocation moves in on her. It squeezes around skin and harder it pushes. And in doing so, it begins to push up all the hate grown for the Thane of Glamis. It forms inside, streams of sharp thoughts, till she's shouting into the trees these years of trapped and swallowed gutless words.

    But trapped no more.

For an hour, she shouts herself horse.

And with each moment a betterment stems.

    A stronger mend begins.

The Pyre is built by her alone, and the wet logs burn blue in the haze. Smoke of pine and flesh swirl into ghosts of others who were lost. It creeps into her skin, searing flesh away to chip and sculpt a permanent mark.

All that hate from the Thane, it rises from her throat and into the branches to somewhere safe it goes.
But the birds are up there waiting and listening and the birds will have their say. What she would give to walk back through the woods with all her spite spat out, her body lighter for all that. To soon to be back home with the caraidean and the piuthar. To all soon be safe, and plugged into ease.

She cannot see him upon the earth, but she knows Gelert is there. He has come to be with her, and she knows he will forever stay. The hound sits by her side, head lulling against her leg. What was ever done to be deserving of this?

The answer is a disease. And it would be her task alone to carry out the remedy.

A black cloud sits down on Dunsinane.

The Second Sisters Faculty of Magic
    and

    Occult Sciences

A Learning Place, and safe Haven, For everyone and anyone of a Magical disposition.

" Salvum maleficas magna iactura suorum "

The Second Sisters Faculty of Magic and Occult sciences (More commonly known as the SSF) was established in 1057, near the outskirts of Dunsinane Forest, Scotland. Our founders created the institution to be a sanctuary for magical folk of all kinds. Those of a magical disposition have suffered great injustices through the ages, and after a particularly bloody affair, the Faculty was born, promising to protect all that could be saved from the lethal prejudices of the common masses.

In it's first years, the Faculty was no more than a collection of small huts and houses. Simply a sheltered area, free of magical prosecution or destruction. Then, as time went on, some sought to bring knowledge and schooling to those willing to learn. And thus, the Faculty grew. Devised and built to maintain a protected refuge for anyone willing to further the knowledge and abilities that magic could provide, the SSF became one of the worlds last known harbour for magical enlightenment and conservation.

    The State of the World

The SSF and the world this RP takes place in is effectively a slightly alternative version of our own. The year is still 2018, and most things are exactly the same, save for the spare oddity here and there. Magic in this world, is a given thing. There is a ethereal energy that can grant certain lucky people with the ability to manipulate it into various wishes, demands, effects, abilities, etc.

The common world is aware of this, and treat it with what I'm going to call a rather medieval mindset. Anyone who possesses a magical ability of any type in the alternate earth are treated like most minorities. Kept around when useful perhaps, but otherwise feared, judged and belittled often. It's nothing as drastic as being killed on sight for just walking on into a town or what have you, but it's more that there's quite a few hate crimes here and there. Basically, Magic to the common folk, is basically a bit of a taboo. There's casual racism and discrimination, but a person in this day and age cannot be legally killed, simply because they possess magical abilities.

    So nothing too new really.

For some extra clarification on what may be acceptable or not in this world. I've conjured up (if you'll pardon the pun) a little list of laws that exsit in the alternate world. See Below.

    Laws Regarding Magically Abled People.

    The Salem Act of 92.
No Women of magical orientation are permitted to convene in groups larger than ten due to the obvious risk of possible coven formation. Covens have remained outlawed since 1795, as the risk of magical harm to the public is too great. Formation of a coven, be it accidental or purposeful, will result in instant prosecution and detainment.(Note: Students upon SSF grounds are exceptions to this rule).

    Regarding Therianthropy:
Any persons of a magical orientation that are capable of shifting by virtue of their genetics alone, must registered as such a being upon birth. Then after either leaving the the SSF with or without a CCC (Certificate of competent changing), the person in question must attend yearly checks if they have received mentioned certificate, or monthly checks if the certificate was not obtained. Failure to report for any of the above mentioned checks will result in prosecution and possible detainment in concern of public safety.

    Magical Intergration I: Regarding Genetics:
If a person of magical orientation has a child with a person of non-magical orientation, they are required by law to state said orientation to their intended partner. Failure to do so can result in prosecution and detainment. Additionally, if a person of magical orientation and non-magical orientation have a child, by law the parents are required to report and register the child's magical orientation. Failure to do so will result in prosecution and possible detainment.

Magical Intergration II: Regarding Public Segregation

If a person of magical orientation is incapable of controlling their abilities, and has been unable to obtain a certificate of Magical Decency of any kind from the SSF, they will be either confined to the Faculty until mentioned certificate is awarded, or the government will allocate a safe, and isolated location to them, where the persons shall be detained permanently.

People of magical orientation have been permitted to integrate with the common public since 1951, upon the basis that they possess at least one certificate of magical proficiency awarded by the SSF, announce their presence to the appropriate council upon deciding to live in a populated area, and never use their magical abilities inappropriately while in public areas.

    Types of Magic

The Magic used and discussed in this RP will be mostly natural based. Natural based, as in working with the natural energy of the world, borrowing and taking for different needs, but in the end always giving something back. Effectively, instead of a magic that's as easy as clicking your fingers and you disappear or summon a china cup or what have you, more effort has to be made for a effect to take place. So for example, a student at the faculty might plan and then draw out a sigil for a direct action, but said action may be something as simple as 'I will not get detention today', and said result may not even occur immediately.

Basically, instead of the type of magic that's represented in media a lot these days, I wanted to write and focus on a type of magic that's for more natural in both it's origins and procedures, and a type that I personally think is at least somewhat more realistic.

But to heavily generalise all I've just said, think Pagan-ish and Wicca-like and you'l be on the right tracks.

    The Limits of Magic

Continuing from my last point, Magic in the SSF is more natural based and consequently, less powerful and flashy as magic may commonly thought to be otherwise. There are of course variables and oddities however. For example, a Old Witch who's had a long lifetime to learn the intricacies of certain spells and sigils, etc. Will most likely be able to overpower a fresh-faced student from the Faculty. However an Occultist who comes from a strong family line of magical prowess might just be born with a stronger energy to channel into their magic, and are therefore perhaps a more powerful magical being than most.

Once again, to generalise, Some people may be more generally powerful than others, and some people may be more skilled than others in certain subjects or aspects to magic. But all in all, nobody has the power to topple buildings or place parts of their actual soul inside an actual infant literal baby child or whatever. Just as a random example there.

    Students

Students attending the SSF can come from literally anywhere in the world. Since magic is a relatively taboo subject internationally, The Faculty is effectively one of the only places left in the world for people to learn how to hone their particular skills in a safe space. So it makes sense for students to be rather varied regarding nationality's and ethnicity's.

Similarly, any type of magical skill-set is accepted. Former students to the school have been:

    - Changelings, Fae- blooded Human Children who possess magical talents, of unknown whereabouts and origins, placed by faeries with a family that is not biologically theirs.
    - Changers, Having the ability to take on any shape, be it human or animal, but at a high magical cost.
    - Selkies, Humans of a magical orientation that have the ability to take on the form of a seal when in possession of their Selkie Coat. (Note to these students: The School Pond is Salt Water and therefore safe for swimming. But for Selkie Students only.)
    - Were-Blooded, Having the ability to turn fully, or somewhat into one animal (Usually, but not specifically of the Canine variety).
    - And Additionally, any mixed race variation of a magical being.

The SSF would like to note that, while any type of magically abled student will be accepted into the Faculty, the academy itself focuses primarily upon and tests a students ability with magic, and not the particular ins and outs of the students species. That said, there are additional extra curricular classes run by our diverse range of teachers that do tackle the more specific needs of our more special students.

    Subjects

    - Alchemy - "the Medieval forerunner of chemistry, a magical process of transformation, creation, or combination." While Alchemy usually means the transmutation of substances (such as base metals into gold), at the SSF, the art of potion making has also been combined into this spectrum.

    - Channelling/'Enchanting' - Channelling, or 'Enchanting' as it's more commonly known, is the magical art of focusing highly energised and powered Spells/Sigils/Runes into various objects, often in the vain of desiring a specific effect. The Skill demands a student who has high levels of focus and concentration, as the art of channelling demands intense and often long periods of sustained effort.

    - Divination - The practice of seeking knowledge of the future is a delicate skill to hone. Most accurate Seers are simply born with their gifts. However our resident professional Mr. Clementine does in fact believe the skill can be taught, and therefore, it is.

    - Gardening - The Natural world is easily any Magicals singular source of energy, and at the SSF, we believe the educated Magical should be taught how to respect, nurture and use the environment to their best advantage.

    - History - The Faculty would simply not exist if it were not for the acts and bravery of those of us who came before. Knowing the specific details and and importance of our richly woven history is deemed a vital need here at the SSF, and is mandatory for all students.

    - Rune & Crystal Plotting - Runes and Crystals bear similarities and uses to the art of Channelling, and those aspects of their being are taught in this class. However the ability to actually read rune stones and knowledge to correctly plot crystal maps and placings are also taught here at the SSF.

    - Sigil Making - A simple, yet more personal magical skill. These magical symbols are each coded with a unique purpose, allowing them to be incredibly direct and powerful while also being a very fast form of spell work. There is no single, definitive method for designing a sigil, and at the Faculty we encourage and cultivate each students unique methods for sigil making.

    - Spell & Curse Casting - The definitive, most classic form of magic. Spells and Curses are magic used and channelled verbally, for a direct immediate effect. At the Faculty we start with the most basic one word commands, and advance all the way to intricate verses (See Word Weaving).

    - Tarot Readings and Calculating - The common mans Divination. While some may not naturally be able to see the future, they can at least try and predict it in a more practical manner.Through the use of Tarot cards, the Faculty believes some futures may be seen and planned by those who aren't particularly of a Seer-like disposition.

    - Word Weaving - The Faculty's newest class; This course advances a Magicals knowledge of Spell and Curse work and attempts to enlighten it to a intensely more natural free-flowing state. Word weaving tries to make the intense power of direct thoughts and feelings flow into the words that may immediately follow.(Must be taken in conjuncture with Spell and Curse Casting)

    Extra Curricular Classes

    - Shifter one-on-one control classes - Mr. Carlisle personally takes on any Shifter student at the Faculty. These one on one sessions aim to help a student learn to directly control their transformations safely, and with the most balanced energy use possible.

    - Controlling Magic in public places - Designed to help our more 'unpredictable' students, these sessions are run twice a week by our various faculty members, and are mandatory for the first two years of a students residency. The classes try to help our students understand when and where magic may or may not be best used in largely populated areas.

    - Astronomy - Due to Mr. Carlisles wide knowledge and personal passion for the subject, this activity has been added to the Facults roster and will take place once every two weeks, save for nights when their is a full moon.

    - An Introduction to the MRC, "We're on your side" (Voluntary Sponsored Session by the MRC)

    - Rugby - The academy's home team (The Savy Sisters) is currently ranked fourth in the worlds Magical Sports Rugby League. GO SISTERS!

    - Cooking for the Modern Magical - A After-school club run by Mr. Clementine that aims to educate any willing student on how to run a modern magically infused kitchen. (Note from teacher: Please bring your own knives.)

    - Familiar Play Date on the Green - A After-school club ran by one of our Head Students that allows the students familiars an allotted time to socialise and play upon the school field. Miss Green kindly asks however that any more carnivorous familiars please remain muzzled and leashed.

    School Rules

    1) Violence shall not be tolerated on the Sisters grounds in any shape or form. We have warned you. The consequences with this one are beyond our control. But please be warned. Violence is prohibited.

    2) Telling someone with no magical orientation, the whereabouts or history of the SSF is strictly prohibited. Once again, the consequences with this are beyond our control. We cannot be held responsible for, or help anyone who breaks this rule.

    3) Familiars, either spiritual or physical, are permitted in halls of residence as long as a proof of authenticity certificate from the MRC (Magical Regulations Committee) can be provided.

    4) Any experimentation must be carried out within the correct corresponding workshop/station and/or under the observation of a Faculty Teacher. Anyone found experimenting outside of one of the said workshop/stations will be put forward to investigation by the MRC.

    5) Wednesday is Laundry Day.

    A Little on the Plot
    (And Whatnot)

So the focus of the RP will be how young people develop and evolve when growing up with a obvious and rare type of abnormality. So with that aspect in mind, this one's gonna be somewhat character driven and oriented. I do also have a unwinding mystery-secret set up that will eventually unravel as the year goes on. This will pose new challenges and decisions for our characters to conquer as time goes by. So this RP's hopefully going to be a interesting dive into how a person can evolve when faced with certain problems, origins, and circumstances.

    I think that made sense.

Basically it's a magic school with a secret. What else is new.

    Bees Rules

    1) No godmodding straight into the IC please. If you've got an idea just run it by me first so we can check it fits in ok and everything

    2) I don't have a particular posting requirement, as I understand that it can sometimes be difficult to get posts in to an adequate length and quality. But if you wouldn't mind writing up some stuff when we need you to just so we don't get held up at all.

    3) Try and make your characters unique in some way or form and different from others you see within the RP. For this one it's important your characters are strong to start with, but also have room for growth. So make sure they're solid. And if their is anything you're unsure of, just PM me and we'll see what we can do

    4) I understand things I've said may be confusing or unclear so I cannot stress enough that I'm more than happy to discuss and answer anything you wanna say to me. Seriously, if anything, I'm eagerly waiting for discussion.

    5) I've written quite a bit so far and in my opinion it's all stuff that needs to be read to understand where I'm going here. So just to check you're still with me, tell me a bad jokes about bees at the bottom of your character sheet please

    6) Have fun... OR ELSE.

    Character Sheet

You can play as a student and/or teacher in this RP. However I kindly ask that if you'd like to play as a teacher, if you could just sent a PM my way with a quick overview of your idea for the character, so we can check it fits in world and what have you.

    Name:

    Age:
(I'm going to set the youngest age a student can be at twelve years old, which is the age children start secondary school here in the UK, so it seems appropriate. Since it's a open type of school while also acting as a shelter, I'm not gonna set a maximum age limit for the students. But be aware they need to be young enough to still be learning things I suppose. And If you're playing as a teacher, be however old you want to be dude.)

    Gender:

    Nationality:
(Where your character is from and their ethnicity if you'd like to put it)

Type of Magical Being: (Now I tried to be as varied as I could when thinking of the examples I listed above, but of course there's some that I've missed. So be creative and choose whatever human-based magical being you wanna be. I only ask you don't make them too overpowered, as this is a school after all, they need room to learn yet.)

Appearance: (A Picture and/Or description will do here)

About: (Here you can write a general description and history of your character in as much to as little detail as you like. But bear in mind you'll need to get enough across for me to get a basic enough inkling of who your character is exactly and what have you.)

Other: (Literally just anything else you'd like to add that didn't really fit anywhere else.)

    Spoiler: Copy-able version of CS

    Dictionary & Translations:

I'll add to this as we go along too.

Spoiler: Because I forget to explain what my own slang means sometimes.

Final Note: I'm aware that in an attempt to be creative, the first post can come across as somewhat vague and confusing. So if you're having trouble understanding what went on in it exactly, just let me know and I can explain
