Kara falls forward, hitting her knees then her wrists, her consciousness dim, ears feeling muffled. She falls out of the cylindrical metal walls circling her. Lying on the tiled floor, she coughs and grabs her chest, rolling off her face and onto her side, desperately ejecting the brutal cold from her lungs. She opens her eyes and finds dim lights above her. Electricity...How? She tilts her head to the left, then right, and is shocked to see...pods! Fabled cryogenic life supporting stasis pods. Each one held a person! Just a few of these, all lined up with countless wires, piping, and tubes erupting from their outer frames, leading to and hanging from the ceiling in dizzying loops.
She mentally reaches for her last memory.
She was ambushed. There was a fight lasting hours...other mercenaries, there were so many of them she had to shift onto reserved power for her mechanical pieces...a squealing sound, her knees weakened, her body stiffened, then they all jumped on her. They injected something into her neck, and before she blacked out they bagged her head and gagged her mouth, and quickly bound her wrists. Amidst this thought she instinctively reached for her wrists and found them to still be sore and bruised. So she wasn't in the pod long enough for her wounds to heal...
She very faintly recalled opening her eyes a few times. Thinking she may die. Seeing only the burlap bag over her head and faint light coming in between the threads. Then another injection. It happened again and again...They must have moved her somewhere far and had to keep drugging her to keep her under control. She recalled trying to use her power but it felt as if a wall was inside of her mind, blocking her reach towards her abilities.
She lifted a hand between her face and the ceiling and snapped her fingers. A small bubble appeared on her index fingertip. She spread her fingers outwards and the bubble expanded, and when she closed her fist it popped accordingly. Good, her powers are back. She reached inward within her mind and touched her mechanical components. They had recharged. How strange... So someone ambushed her, drugged her, moved her, then recharged her mechanical components? What was the point? What is this decrepit room she's on the floor of? Why are there more people in pods?
As these thoughts bombarded her, the door to another pod unlatched, and began sliding open.
