Frankie grew up in the wilderness of a little mentioned planet. Her father, Abram Astair, a renowned surgeon, had moved with his new wife from the Center planets after a malpractice charge ruined his name, and business. Frank was born shortly after their flight from civilization. Her parents traded medical help and homemade medicine for necessities with other inhabitants as well as farmed. Frankie spent most of her young life among the fauna and wildlife, caring for animals and releasing them from hunter’s traps, to the chastising of local hunters.
From a young age, she aided her father with his local patients. She watched with confusion and fascination as people ultimately lived or died by the hand of a single man. She kept to herself, having very little interest in the activities of the few children of her age and instead spent her time alone, dissecting scavanged carcasses and reading. However, she developed a devotion to a young man from a neighboring town, four years her senior, and quickly became obsessed. He spurned her easily, and married shortly after she revealed her feelings. Hurt and angry, her father decided it was time she left, and bring a new life to their name. He’d applied on her behalf to several medacads on Center planets and she’d been accepted to the University of Osiris. She was here when the war broke out. She volunteered at various facilities for housing and caring for injured soldiers from both sides and developed a hatred for violence. Her emotions withered with the lives lost at her hands and she vowed to remain neutral to all parties and conflicts. She received a letter her final year of university that her father had been captured aiding Browncoats and was put to death. The news spread, along with the already known taint to her name, and she was shunned from any paying clinic or job after graduation. She scavenged for work, mostly taking jobs in poor areas or for criminals, and built a reputation as a ‘Back Alley Healer’. She finally has enough money to go home and check on her mother. And she takes the first ship she can find.
Frankie is at first aloof, shy, uncomfortable socially but warms up quickly. She has little patience for conflicts or drama but instead attempts to maintain peace. She is suspicious of people who attempt to gain a friendship due to several failed interactions with others as well as constant harassment from peers in relation to family history.
