Oh, fer fok’s fraggin’ sake…That’s Chaplain Gerry tae'ye! Don’ call me Father, cos I ain’ yer Da!”

    Name: Gerald O’Rourke

Position: Regimental Chaplain – Callisto 44th

Appearance: Gerry O’Rourke is a man of his apparent sixties, weathered and worn by the inexorable progression of time despite rejuvenation treatments. His tall, broad physique hints at what was a prodigious, oxen-like strength in his youthful prime – now slightly hunched in shoulders and thickset around the torso. Gerry’s blunt and humble face features a prominent, battered nose and is framed by faded, shoulder length auburn hair and a close cropped beard which has become more white than red, and has prominent lines from laughter and smiles. His eyes are a clear and expressive green, and betray a depth of life experience and an age beyond even his apparent advanced years.

Archive Image: Gerald O’Rourke – candid photograph of the Chaplain after his first formal mass with the regiment – image taken by Guardswoman Nas Rana, Callisto 44th.

Personality: Gerry is a gregarious, honest (except when at the card table) humorous and even keeled man who wears his genial heart on his sleeve. He devoutly believes in the Emperor and unified Mankind, with a moderate theological outlook and approachably humanistic in his ministry. He is very much a soldier’s preacher, who genuinely understands his flock’s perspective after having long been in their combat boots, and is unafraid to raise his voice as an outsider (emphatically and irately, if need be) when necessary to advocate for his appointed charges and innocents caught up in the war.

In his new responsibilities as a regimental chaplain, Gerry O’Rourke lacks aptitude with formal sermons and high-ceremony (although the rank and file generally appreciates his barely sub-vocalized profanity laden attempts) expected of a preacher – which is more than compensated for by Gerry’s experience in the Guard and as a martial educator. He has a talent for heartfelt, impromptu encouragement and quick-fire tactical advice, as well as some wry observational wit (as appropriate) on Poor Bloody Guardsmen predicaments – although does on occasion suffer from the memories of decades as a PBG.

    Weapons

Grenade Launcher – Praetorian Pattern, ‘Beloved’: Gerry’s originally issued service weapon which followed him into an honorable retirement. The grenade launcher is much like its owner; durably constructed to endure decades at war with some well-earned wear and tear, and slightly archaic with a revolving six-shell drum. Its name is rudely carved into the metal just below the Emperor’s Aquila. Gerry predominantly carries frak and krak, with a small selection of incendiary and smoke.

Naval Revolver – Bakka Pattern: The Bakka is a blunt and brutally unsophisticated revolver hand-cannon preferred by assault armsmen petty officers in Battlefleet Tempestus, featuring a six-shot drum with an underslung, reloadable single shot-shotgun. Gerry won the sidearm in a game of cards turned brawl with some Navy ratings in his younger, wilder days. He remains a terrible shot with small arms.

    Equipment

Flak Armor: Chaplain O’Rourke goes into combat with the Ministorum marked flak armor and helmet worn by the Callisto 44th, as a sign of solidarity with the men and women of his new regiment. He wears the fatigues of an enlisted Guardsman beneath the flakweave robes of a battlefield preacher, augmented by the white collar of his order and accompanied by a simple Aquila embroidered stole.

Bionics: Gerry has been forced by a lifetime of exposure to explosions to indulge in high-grade cochlear implants, a useful asset on the battlefield and while patrolling the Schola corridors after curfew – although the venerable chaplain has reported several instances of inexplicable failure, to which the Tech-priests on Aurelias Prime have examined the augments and been unable to ascertain a defect. Gerry solemnly describes the intermittent phenomenon as his ‘selective hearing issues’.

    Background

Gerald O’Rourke was born in Segmentum Tempestus on the prestigious mercantile hive-world of Praetoria, and began his service to the Emperor in the unexceptional manner of many undereducated, low-born young men who were known to supplement their meager laborer wages with petty criminality – cudgeled into submission by a Munitorum impressment raid on his local drinking establishment and, once returned to consciousness and relative sobriety, presented with the choice of a twenty-year enlistment in the Imperial Guard or be transported to a life sentence as a penal laborer.

Gerry was persuaded to the merits of enlistment and was assigned to the 37th Praetorian Rifles, and served the term of enlistment – the final years with the Delphic PDF, after the regiment was stood down due to losses while campaigning against the Orks on that world. His record indicated an unexceptional by Praetorian standards Guardsman, aside from a higher than average amount of floggings in the 37th and several disciplinary actions with the PDF for off-duty incidents of alcohol-involved brawling – perhaps a contributing factor to Gerry’s mobilization when Delphi raised the 94th Triarii for the Guard.

The otherwise unexceptional course of Gerry O’Rourke’s life was derailed by a series of personal revelations when the regiment’s transport suffered a Gellar malfunction while underway in the warp - the least of which being his proximity to the brief (and not officially confirmed) living sainthood of Nicolas Lehner. Gerry survived the harrowing experience, and the no less perilous Inquisitorial inquiry into the reincarnation and their moral purity examination of survivors from the warp incident.

Gerry served out the duration of his ten-year term of service and with distinction and retired a sergeant, when he was promptly approached by representatives of the Ministorum to become a drill-abbot. The freshly retired Gerry agreed on the firm condition he be assigned to the Schola Progenium on Aurelias Prime – which was readily agreed to, due to his thirty years of military experience and proximity to a miracle, where he built a life and continued to serve the Imperium as for another thirty years.

Gerry set aside his responsibilities as an educator earlier this year to fight in defense of the troubled shrine world against a recent, heavy attack by Chaos raiders until relieved by the Guard and Navy. When the word broke of the Patriot uprising in Adrantis, and of the atrocities committed against the Ministorum, Gerry answered the call to arms and volunteered to serve once more in a crusade.

“It would be extremely optimistic of you to assume that is going to happen.”

    Name: Martin Crenshaw

Position: Advisor (military intelligence) and anti-psyker contingency

Rank: Major – Adeptus Astra Telepathica

Appearance: Crenshaw stands at 5’11” with a trim and powerful physique and a hard, angular visage seemingly made solely for an impatient scowl. His complexion is fair and lightly olive in tone, with quick, calculating eyes which are a dark brown hazel. The Major keeps his slightly wavy dark brown hair closely cropped and his angular jaw is clean shaven. His right cheek is diagonally bisected by an old scar, and the teeth behind have been replaced by high-quality synthetic prosthetics. Crenshaw’s left arm from midway down has been replaced by a military grade bionic in matte, non-reflective black.

Archive Image: Martin Crenshaw as seen in the Scintillan underhive - final image recorded by a suspected illegal ocular implant excised from a deceased gangster – corpse recovered several weeks after expiration by agents of Inquisitor Yannick, while in search of Interrogator Kally Sonder - image extracted by Inquisitor Eran DeShilo.

Personality: Crenshaw is an adamantium-clad realist and ruthless pragmatist, self-confident and relentlessly proactive when it comes to achieving his objectives. The Major is a habitual dissembler, possessed of a keen mind for assessment and intrigue, and will often use his fully embraced blacksoul nature towards that end. As an officer and clandestine operative, Crenshaw maintains exactingly high standards for himself and those he works with, and has a correspondingly low threshold for bullshit, incompetence, and most of all weakness – at least when it does not suit his or the mission’s interests.

Crenshaw’s lifetime of harsh personal and professional experiences have left him mostly calloused to the often unpleasant human consequences of his decisions made as an Imperial officer and agent - except for the singular, exceptional exception to all of the above: Kally Sonder, the huntress of his heart and the woman who made him her husband, for whom he would burn the Nebula to be reunited with.

Power: Untouchable [Assignment: Omega] – Crenshaw carries the anomalous Pariah gene, an inherent mutation which allows him to completely nullify psychic abilities around him. He may not be directly affected by psychic powers or daemonic possession, and this psychic dead zone can be variably suppressed via his limiter collar. Inside the active area of effect, no psyker is able utilize their powers as they suffer severe mental and physical pain and distress. Baseline humans often feel instinctive negativity, and worse, towards Crenshaw depending on physical proximity and collar limitation.

    Weapons

Marksman Rifle – Orlock Pattern: Non-standard autogun manufactured by the projectile artisans of Necromunda’s House of Iron, which has been extensively retrofitted and accessorized [collapsible stock, fore-grip with quick-deploy bipod, flashlight with dazzler function, flash suppressor and omni-sight] to meet Crenshaw’s requirements for close quarters combat and precision shooting beyond conventional rifle range. The Major carries ‘casket’ extend capacity magazines with man-stopper armor penetrating rounds, expander anti-personnel, and a single conventional magazine of incendiary ammo.

Bolt Pistol – Garm Pattern: One of the more common patterns favored by the Commissariat for its power and brutish profile. Crenshaw carries the compact officer’s model with an underslung red dot targeter as well as a trigger lock mechanism synched to Crenshaw’s biometrics and bionic left hand.

Power Maul – Anatolia Pattern: Derivative of the well-regarded shock maul once produced by the now silent forges of deceased Anatolia. Manufactured to be a robust and balanced weapon, it possesses a variable energy field that ranges between a conventional shock and significantly armor penetrating.

Miscellaneous: Crenshaw has a backup combat knife. When carrying grenades, the Major uses two each of fragmentation and flashbang and one each of krak and decoy noise-makers.

    Equipment

Carapace: The Major’s full body suit of matte black carapace armor is of angular design and formed from composite armaplas and ceramite. It includes a distinctive, Telepathica wireframe stamped helmet that has been further modified with specialist psyocculum and preysense apparatus in addition to the conventional photovisor, noise dampeners, and rebreather.

Miscellaneous: In addition to his limiter collar, Crenshaw maintains a pair of mag-cuffs and a null halo for the apprehension of un-sanctioned psykers. The Major also keeps a compact, field cased and highly encrypted data-slate and a collection of storage crystals and sticks for intelligence acquisition.

    Background

Crenshaw was recovered and pressed into service by the Telepathica at a young age due to his Pariah status, and is an old hand with the Adeptus’ often brutal and gruesome process of acquiring, transporting and transforming witches into sanctioned psykers. With over thirty years of operational experience, and responsibilities over time and across the Imperium, Crenshaw has primarily been used by the AAT as an expeditor in difficult assignments alongside notionally allied Imperial agencies – the most frequent and recent of which was the Ordo Hereticus of the Imperial Inquisition.

Major Crenshaw survived a professional conduct review because of – and arguably due to - his prominence in the Patriots’ anti-Imperial propaganda. He remains on detached service from the AAT with the combined agency Crusade military-intelligence, and has been forward deployed alongside the Guard in an advisory, counter-psyker, and intelligence acquisition capacity – where the Major has nominal command of a reinforced platoon sized taskforce of specialist advisors and their security.

You should definitely get started on those "traitors", and I'll admit these killer scenes you guys have been cranking out in Ground War is making me really reconsider backing out of the regimental side...

    C'mon, buddy...

When the word broke of the Patriot uprising in Adrantis, and of the atrocities committed against the Ministorum, Gerry answered the call to arms and volunteered to serve once more in a crusade.
Major Crenshaw survived a professional conduct review because of – and arguably due to - his prominence in the Patriots’ anti-Imperial propaganda.
Gerry's chaplain for the same airborne regiment Commissar Schenke and adjutor Ephese are attached to, and Crenshaw's face is most likely literally plastered across half the district on anti-Imperial propaganda...safe to say they're firmly Imperial - although y'all won't see them immediately.

    At the moment, no.

That being said, I freely admit I may not be able to maintain self-control and simply finish off what I'd started for my Loyalist and Patriot regiments - cos I'm enjoying what I'm reading...and greedy, senseless bastard that I am, I'm thinking I'd like a piece of that action as well.

    Welcome aboard, Paint!

@Derpnaster; - you can, but they'll need to spend a post bringing it up. Alternatively you could switch to the POV of that kill-team you mentioned, somewhere behind the lines (perhaps they'd infiltrated themselves into position near the railhead because of its strategic importance). Of course, if they're there then they can't be elsewhere...such as the spaceport, which will be your final (and toughest) objective in this battle.

Personally I'd have expected the Vanquisher to fire its second shot at a new target instead of the already mission-killed Midnight, but I'll forgive that in the name of drama.

That, and Fury was clearly sporting the long barrel of an upgunned Sherman Firefly, which wouldn't have needed to get behind a Tiger to kill it. And the Tiger wouldn't have had such trouble tracking Fury if they remembered to turn the whole tank as well as the turret.

Whatever - rule of drama. A semi-decent film, and I've already stolen some of its soundtrack for this RP.

PM me for novelised versions of any of my RPs, or ones that I have participated in. Set by the awesome Karma.
