“A tale drenched in blood and a future so grim,
A king went mad with a sword that gleamed,
In his hands is a blade as dark as the night,
Which the Mad Dragon wielded with such might,
A good king turned mad by the shadows,
Where the dead shall be eaten by crows,
And the great gods of old shall return,
Such is the tale where the world burns,”
- The Seer of the White Province
The roleplay is set in the world of Ochlion currently in the Age of Legends where the art of magic has been lost to the ages since the First Great War between the Alliance and the Old Empire. Split into several continents with Arno’or the west and the island of Ma’arn to its northwest and Solitude directly to its north while the distant continent of the dragons known as the Sundered Lands is separated by the Smoldering Seas. To the east of the world is the continents of Essarch and Moiairon which are both separated from one another by the Long Sea. There is the mysterious island of Avalon to the north of Essarch and the Sea of Trees to Moiairon.
Our story mainly took place in the continent of Arno'or after King Arthur received the legendary sword of Excalibur from the Lady of the Lake during one of his trips to the Godslake located near the city of Camelot. Eventhough he was raised as an illegitimate child to King Uther, the young prince kept his noble vows and pursued a life of chivalry to help the many people of the kingdom. With the Sword of Kings, Arthur garnered the attention of the common folk and he was loved by the people. On a cold night, Uther was found dead in his chambers, stabbed through the heart with a silver blade that was not forged by any kingdoms upon Arno'or. On the next day, he was buried and Arthur ascended to the throne. His first years began in peace, travelling across the land to search for the bravest, courageous and most honorable knights to be a part of his knighthood order - the Order of the Round Table. Twelve of them, he found and gave them the spot. Each were known to be capable warriors with a weapon of their own, each were blessed by the gods in its own way. Some had a tremendous strength comparable to a Giant, others had an agility similar to that of a ferocious lion and there are those who are most deadly with a sword that none could match.
The protectors of Camelot, the people would call them. Hailed as heroes and legends, songs and poems were written for their great deeds. Arthur himself became the subject of myths, some said that he was the Son of the Dragon reborn. Others speak of him being a half-breed, a demigod to be precise. Merlin would aid the young king, to protect the lands and to govern over the people. A wise man he was, an old man blessed by the gods. His was the gift of magic lost to mankind since the end of the war that brought the world to its knees. Magic - the power of the old deities.
However as time went on, Arthur turned his eyes upon the world. Power began to consume him. Some claimed that it was the whispers of the sword that corrupted the noble king's mind, turning him into a tyrant who hungers for power. He prepares his army, mustered a force numbered in the thousands as each of his soldiers were fiercely devoted to him. Some thought that they were indoctrinated, their minds know nothing but to serve the king and his cause. By the time Arthur marched his army to the borders of the United Province of Grecca, the Round Table knights began to leave his side one by one with only the king remained. What followed next is an act that shook the world to its core.
An innocent small village near the borders of Grecca known as Kaldir finds itself in a terrible situation where the ironclad soldiers of Camelot marched upon their lands and burning their homes, slaughtering the men, women and children. At the time of the attack, the whole Greccan kingdom is celebrating a sacred day where none shall take up arms and spill the soil with the crimson blood of another. A time where soldiers are sent home, leaving the villages that are around the borders defenseless. Thus, Arthur took this advantage and attacked. Though victorius, the Dragon King's forces suffered numerous losses at the hands of Percival, the Black Knight who is a former member of the Round Table. The two former companions clashed. Arthur came forth, Excalibur in hand and clad in crimson armor fashioned in the scales of a dragon's. Some said they fought for nearly an hour and the sound of their swords clashing were nothing more than a song and a terrible scream. Arthur drove his sword through Percival's heart and slew his former friend, partly mad with power, partly overcome with grief.
The attack on Kaldir prompted an all-out war between the two northern kingdoms of Arno'or. This act do not only attracted the attention of the nations of the continent but also from those who resided in the further lands of Essarch and Moiairon. They too know of Arthur's growing power. However, within the streets of the kingdom itself there are talks of a rebellion that has been making plans to overthrow Arthur. For twenty years the two kingdoms fought, there has not been a clear winner in sight. But the Seer of the White Province prophesied that the Elder Races shall return and with them, the gods of the old ages will set their foot upon the world once again.
Your characters can be a part of the Greccan forces fighting to defend their lands from Camelot invasion. Beginning as a disciplined soldier of the main army or a simple mercenary, he/she will begin the tale by marching from the capital known as the Keep of Scales or Aratos to the Red Fields to confront the bulk of the Camelot army. No one knows if they'd prevail, but one thing is for certain however, that the outcome of the conflict shall decide the fate of Grecca and Camelot.
Don't want to be a part of the "hero" part? Well, your character can start in Irongaunt castle where the 32nd Army of Camelot is stationed at. The infamous division known as the Ironhearts comprised of the land's gifted individuals, each with their own unique abilities that are either a product of their own training or by the kingdom's notorious alchemists who worked endlessly to create the perfect soldier.
Or be a part of a growing rebellion. The Red Rats, as most would call them, is lead by the children of Lancelot, Fayre and Duncan who are searching for their eldest brother, Galahad who is said to have gone missing after he left the Round Table. Now residing in the forests of Grecca, Fayre and Duncan needed capable warriors and knights to save their dying homeland from the Mad Dragon.
There would be no problems should you choose not to participate in the three different parts above but there is where most of the action shall take place. In this story, experience a tale of intrigue where the world suffers from a devastating war since the end of the First Great War. Explore more of the world, discover what happened to the Knights of the Round Table, discover new places and learn the histories behind it, weapons of legends, creatures never seen before, all are waiting to be discovered!
Welp, I guess that's it. There's a lot more information stored up in my mind but most of it are not largely consequential to the overall story. Hope it's not a burden for you guys to read but I feel it's necessary for me to lay out every important details to you guys to know the world better. I took many inspirations, not just from Arthurian Legend but from a few real life historical things as well. All maps are hand drawn as well, including the continental map of Arno'or.
