Arayna gave a light nod at his suggestion, she felt the need for added space at the moment anyway. Moving off to gather Grissla, she slowly escorted her back to the house. Once they were back, she motioned to one of the chairs by the hearth. “Why don't you rest a bit, Grissla, and I'll pour you a drink… we have some crisp cider or I can brew you up some warm tea if you'd fancy something more than water.”

With a low pained groan Grissla sat down at the kitchen table pulling her hood down. Once upon a time she might've been a very attractive woman. Striking and almost queenly, and while she still held some of that regal beauty, time and a long life of traveling had taken their toll.

Her cheeks were haggard, eyes dull, and her long hair which might've been a golden blond at one point had turned white and scraggly. While her limbs were thin and shaky they sported the old scars of working the land and maybe even wielding a blade or two. She was definitely human, but something in her aura hinted at more than just a simple peasant.

The old woman ran a gnarled claw like hand through her hair and smiled up at the beautiful She-Elf. "Cider will do just fine my dear. So if you don't mind an old woman curiosity, what brings you to this farm? You don't seem like the usual wife of a warrior or even a farmer."

Arayna gave a light nod to the old woman before moving to retrieve the cask from the cupboard, pouring a mug full and sitting it down in front of the her. Mulling over Grissla’s question, she gave a soft sigh, moving to pour a mug for herself before joining her at the table. The she-elf took a moment to look over the old woman across from her. She could tell from her years in the high courts that there was more to this haggard woman that one might discern at first glance.

She wasn’t all that eager to recount how she wound up here, especially to someone just met. It meant fully acknowledging her accountability for all of it. “Hasty decisions and poor choices, mostly… It wasn’t exactly by choice.” She lifted her mug, taking a drink before continuing. “Adjusting to this life hasn’t been easy, but I’m managing as well as I can to it. Your wagon mender, Volare, has been surprisingly patient with me... though it’s probably more of a frustration for him than he lets on. I’m better trained for magic than I am for tending a farm.”

The old woman chuckled lightly sipping her drink. "That's the story for many women I've come across in my travels. But a patient man is a rare treasure, hold him close dear." She gave a sad smile and pulled out a small ivory idol carved into the shape of a bear standing on it's hind legs. "I had a man like that once, like your man out there he was a warrior turned farmer. From the bottom of the Dominion, little land called Ezidor right on the shore of the Brilliant Sea." She handed the little figure to Arayna. "He was also a carver."

She then sat back sighing softly. "He passed quietly in his sleep, but still I miss him." She sipped her drink again.

Arayna and Grissla continued their idle talk for quite some time until Volare was finally finished mending the wheel. They said their goodbyes and Arayna even parted with a hug, thankful for the woman’s help and advice. It was late afternoon by the time all was said and done and the she elf watched from the window as the woman’s wagon rolled out of sight. She looked down at the small carving the woman had given her and thought over her words and her warning. Slipping back to her room, she placed the ivory bear on her bedside table before depositing the potion on one of her dresser drawers, tucking it beneath her clothes. She couldn’t afford to make the decision to use it in haste. Exiting her room, she moved back to the kitchen, pouring another mug of cider for herself as well as one for Volare who was now resting at the kitchen table. “Well, so much for getting an early start today.” She chuckled softly as she said that and smiled down at her drink. “It was nice to get to speak with her though, she had many stories to share. I wish her well.”

Volare gave a chuckle of his own accepting the offered mug with a nod of thanks. "Ay, but it's better than leaving her to fend for herself. Just means we'll need to make up for it tomorrow." He sipped his cider slowly rolling his bad shoulder. "Been a long while since I've had to fix a wagon, nearly forgot what I needed to do."

Standing up he moved to the window looking out at the rapidly darkening sky. "I've talked with my share of old humans. It's surprising how much experience and wisdom they can attain despite having only a quarter of our lifespan. Maybe it's because their lives are so short." He let out a low chuckle partially turning back to Arayna. "You ever wonder what it would be like to be a human?"

"Well, I'm glad you were able to remember otherwise she may have been stuck with us for a good while." Arayna chuckled again, sipping her drink as she watched him roll his shoulder. “You should let me help you with that again, old mer. We don’t need the muscles setting like stone.” She gave a light chuckle then. “I promise I’ll keep my clothes on this time.”

She went quiet then as she pondered his next question. She couldn’t argue his theory. Taking another sip of her drink, she gave a small smile. “I could never imagine growing so wrinkly in less than one hundred years, but I do envy their courage. Perhaps it really is their short lifespans that keeps them from growing complacent with the circumstances they are handed. They don’t have time to waste on fear of changing things for themselves.”

The old Elf chuckled sitting down across from her. "We will have to see about that one lass. But you are right of course, don't need anything locking up in a bad way." Placing his mug down he leaned back and mulled over her words nodding gently. "That could be, but humans also have a habit of taking over wherever they find themselves." He chuckled lightly rubbing his eyes slowly.

Arayna gave a small smile and finished her drink, noticing him rub his eyes. "It's been a long day, old Mer, why don't you get some sleep? I'll be up for a bit and I'll see the house locked up." Standing, she moved toward the window then, giving a complacent sigh as she gazed out at the starry night sky. "It's a beautiful night, I want to enjoy it a bit before bed…"

Volare chuckled at being sent to bed like a child, but fixing the wagon had taken more out of him than he expected. Maybe he was getting sick, he's been feeling off for a few days now. Standing up he put the cups into the sink. "I suppose, you're right lass, don't wander too far though it's still dangerous out there." He contemplated saying something about not running away again, but simply smiled and moved to his room pulling his shirt off as he walked in moving right to his bedside to apply the ointment so he could sleep.
