Age (18+): 31
Role (needs experience): Doctor (Psychiatrist)
Appearance:
Personality: Andrew has a dark sense of humor, although it is one he really only shows his friends. He can be a bit insecure, but he covers that with humor. Even with all his talking and joking, when things get serious, he can be one of the most quiet and focused people around.
Background (include past experience for role): Andrew was not much a student in his younger years, and being born in a poor family in the United States, he did not have much of a way to go to college other than join the military. He did a stint as a medic, not because of any love for medicine, but because he thought the job description sounded "cool."
There was a small "conflict" two years into his contract. They were only to be sent there as a peace keeping force while everything was sorted out. A couple of months turned into a year, as lives were lost and peace seemed further and further away. Not wanting a repeat of the conflicts that happened in the early 21st century, troops were pulled out at the end of the year and the country was left to collapse under a civil war.
Even after they left, not everyone could cope with the loss of friends and the constant threat of death they endured while overseas. Many of Andrew's friends committed suicide, each one hurting more than the last. As his last year in the military finished, he decided he wanted to help people like them. People with depression, PTSD, anxiety. He went to school, more determined than ever, and tore through the four year of college, four years of graduate school, and his residency.
He graduated and began to work for the VA, but the bureaucracy was killing his passion. He felt that what he was doing wasn't enough. Sometime in his stint there he had made friends with an ex colonel, and he asked the colonel what he should do. The colonel took a few days, said he "pulled some strings," and got Andrew assigned to a position as a psychiatrist on a ship looking for a new home for humanity.
