Hey there folks! I'm Tiel and I'm looking for some 1x1 partners now that I'm back from my break.
About Me: I write about 400 words per post, sometimes a little longer for starters/openers, with proper spelling and grammar. And I've been writing about fourteen years and roleplaying about half that, so I've been around the block many times and have quite a bit of experience. I therefore call myself a literate/advanced writer. Usually I can reply to threads once or twice a week, sometimes a little faster. Occasionally a little slower but I try to communicate with people when something's going on.
About Plots: I'm up for... pretty much anything. The only thing I don't write is sex/smut. I do very much prefer sci-fi, fantasy, or characters with abilities in general. I'm also a huge sucker for romantic and familial plots. Historical? Futuristic? Mutants? Experiments? Demigods? I'm not picky at all. But rather than creating a new character for every thread, I'm going to use the same few characters and you can choose which ones you'd like to write with. I'll post summaries of them at the bottom so you can get an idea of what to expect, but I'm also open to changing things up somewhat to fit whatever plots you're interested in, besides their ages, ethnicities, and sexualities.
About Partners: I'm not that picky about posting speed! Go at your own pace, take breaks, do whatever suits you. But I do ask that your posts are of a similar length and quality to my own. And that you actually work with me to create plots instead of saying "yes" or "no" to everything I suggest. Other than that, I don't really have any demands or requirements. Hell, I'm pretty easy to work with. I've provided a few writing samples below in spoiler tags so you can get an idea of my writing style. I'd like it if you could do the same!
Spoiler: Sample #1
Rowan was, by many accounts, a lazy bastard. It was why he usually didn't bother with leaving NNYC. Officially he was there as a scout for the Guardians, to expand their reach from Trader's Town and find more people for their cause. But really he just did whatever he wanted and was helpful enough that Guardian leadership didn't feel like complaining about it. Erik Lehnsherr had proven to be a very reasonable man and that was really the only reason that Rowan bothered to still work with them.
And he'd spent the last couple weeks outside NNYC, as a raptor instead of as a human for once. It meant he had no idea what had been going on in the city or around it, so once he'd gotten dressed again, he'd headed to one of the shops. By now it had been several years since he'd first met a lady named Cinderella. At first Rowan had found it a little weird to be talking to someone whose name he associated with a fairy tale princess from an animated movie.
But she'd proven to be much different than what little he knew about her from the Disney movies. In fact, he'd ended up liking her quite a bit. At first he'd just thought that she was some kind of ditzy blond that only cared about clothes and he'd been close to writing her off as a waste of his time. Then he'd figured out the truth and suggested they have a working relationship. He told her what the Guardians were going to be up to in the area, she told him what was going on outside the city. He liked to think it was a good idea.
Then, since he'd dropped off the radar for half the month, he figured he was behind on a few things. So he'd gone to visit Cinderella's shoe store. Rowan looked a little out of place among her usual clientele, but that didn't bother him. Not much did unless someone thought they could threaten him. Those people were few and far between, and he dealt with them pretty easily in most cases. But Cindy? Yeah, she was no trouble at all for him. He kind of considered her as something like a friend.
So he let himself into the shop, glancing around to see if anything had changed, and let his gaze move over the handful of people inside until... There she was. Cin-der-ell-a. He still thought her name was kind of weird, but then again, she probably thought his abilities were strange too. Most people did unless they were shifters themselves. But they got along pretty well and he didn't exactly regret any of the time he spent hanging around her shop and probably annoying the shit out of her.
“Hello, Cindy,” he said, hands in the pockets of his jeans. As he'd come into the shop, he'd bumped his hat back, no longer needing to shield his reptilian eyes from the sun. They tended to be a little sensitive to bright light but he had no desire to try to hide what he was from other people. Besides, he'd told Cinderella what he was pretty early on. Why waste time? “I'm sure you've missed me. What have you been up to the last couple of weeks? Bet it was boring without me around,” he added with a smirk.
Spoiler: Sample #2
“Hello, my dear Mr Taggart,” she said cheerfully. “I have Starbucks and the barista put so much whipped cream on my mocha that I think she has a crush on me. Or just wants to see me on a sugar high. It's worth drinking either way, isn't it? Of course it is, it's coffee.”
If it weren't for the fact that there were still wrappers on both of the straws poking out of her back pocket, one might assume that she'd already had half her coffee, with how fast she talked. One might assume that she'd already had her morning coffee before leaving her apartment, and that the one she held now was simply being consumed for the taste. This, at least, was correct. Cassia was a person who liked iced coffee and talking, which she considered a perfect recipe for any summer social interaction.
Sometimes the people she roped into those interactions were a little less certain. But she provided the coffee and most of the conversation as well, unbothered by those who were in it for the drink and mostly tuned her out. While she'd never asked, sometimes she was pretty sure that Duncan was one of those people. They talked about books a lot, though, so at least he didn't ignore her all the time. Cassia had always been someone who was capable of entertaining herself (and often several other people at the same time).
She set the coffee holder down on the counter and pulled the straws out, tapping the bottom of one on the counter to poke it through the end of the wrapper as she held the other one out to Duncan. Would she get in trouble if she hopped up to sit on the counter and show him the books she'd brought? Probably. That wasn't enough to quite dissuade her from trying it, but she was occupied with getting her straw in her coffee right now. Good thing she'd brought napkins or both cups would be leaving watery rings all over.
Had she brought napkins?
“Yours is black but I brought cream and sugar. And two books. I don't think Pride-and-Prejudice-murder-mystery-sequel is exactly up your alley but I also found a retelling of Beowulf where Grendel was a shapeshifter trying to protect his clan and Beowulf is this evil wizard type guy who's trying to Grima Wormtongue his way into the clan's council. It sounds very interesting. And it's not written in alliterative verse or Old English, which makes it much easier to understand. But it's also not so modern that it loses the, you know, feel of the original.”
Had she taken a breath in the middle of that long sentence? Not at all. As if realising this, she took a long sip from her coffee as she stared at Duncan and waited for a reaction. If not to everything she'd said since walking through the doors of the library, then at least to her opinions on Beowulf.
Spoiler: Sample #3
“Hey, buddy,” Phoenix said, letting the pup sniff his hand. And then it very easily got distracted by Nick, who made a variety of noises as he climbed over to Phoenix's other shoulder, managing to almost get tangled up in the wizard's hair in the process. That was going to get annoying fast. But in the meantime, Nick would be fine, as he didn't really think that a puppy could do anything to hurt him. Or that the puppy even wanted to, as he seemed like he only wanted to find out what the niffler was.
Which made sense, because Phoenix could almost guarantee that their new acquaintance had never seen a niffler before. They were... well, he was going to say that they were unique to his world, but apparently his world was not the only one out there that had wizards and Hogwarts. But so far he'd only met two or three people who had any idea what a niffler was, so he was going to count that as the closest thing. Meaning? Who knew. Maybe the pup thought that Nick was a raccoon or something.
The thought made him smile. No, not quite. But Nick was certainly not smiling, and there was only so long that Phoenix could let him get terrorised before he started to feel a little bad about it. It wasn't like he didn't know that Nick was scared. So he gently reached out and nudged the puppy's nose down, keeping his hand above its head to keep it from being able to jump up or stretch its head up too far. Eventually it would understand what he was telling it, right? Dogs were smart, smarter than people sometimes, he was sure.
“Leave Nick alone, buddy,” he said for good measure. “He's not going to come down while you're scaring him.” It wasn't like the pup would be able to understand him, but it was the thought that counted. And for all he knew, maybe this was an unusually smart dog. He'd met a dragon shapeshifter not long after he'd first come here, and that had been a hell of an encounter, he had to admit. Almost made him wonder if dragons could do that where he was from, but nobody had told him...
Most of the time, saying the niffler's name would get him a curious noise in return, but instead there was just another panicky sounding one. Yeah, he'd kind of expected that. Phoenix absentmindedly reached his other hand up to brush his fingers over Nick's head but his attention remained on the puppy in front of him. If he got distracted and it managed to jump up and nip at Nick, well, that would be the end of it as far as getting the niffler calmed down. Instead he shifted his hand by the puppy's face to see if he could get some of the mud brushed off him.
Spoiler: Sample #4
Smoking? They'd been found out by someone, and instead of being scared, he was asking if he could smoke? Venom was itching to come back out and eat the guy, but Eddie didn't want to resort to such extreme measures just yet. If they could manage to get out of this quickly and without anything bad happening, well, he had a feeling that that would be much preferred by all of them. Nobody was crazy enough to actually want to get eaten by an alien monster, right? He'd just have to talk his way out of it.
“Uh, no, we don't mind. And, yeah, he's, he's kind of, well, kind of new. To here. Not to me. Um. I don't really want trouble. We were just kind of out for a walk and that guy was being really rude and pushy and pulled a knife on me. So Nom kind of took care of it for me. You know.”
Yeah, you know, sometimes the weird alien symbiote you're bonded to just feels like mauling or eating someone because they threatened you. Pretty common. Pretty normal. Oh, yeah, he was definitely panicking, and this guy could definitely tell he was panicking. This was not good and he was not going to be talking his way out of it. Eddie had always been great at running his mouth to get him into trouble. He just usually never managed to get back out of it again.
“Look, we're not going to, we're not gonna hurt anybody unless they come after us first, and in that case, I think they kind of deserve it, don't you? So we're just gonna, kind of, slip on past you and go back home. Okay? Okay.”
There wasn't a chance in hell that that was going to work, but Eddie plastered a fake smile on his face anyway. He'd always been told to be confident and act natural, and it would help him get what he wanted. He was doing neither of those things right now but he was hoping that Venom had been weird enough that this man would be scared off from trying to do anything to stop them.
Even though the thought brought a flicker of annoyance from Venom's mind, they both knew that Eddie was right. Very few people had anything to fear from him as a human. Unless they were doing something corrupt and immoral. But in any kind of fight? Well, he could throw a punch, but he wasn't going to intimidate anybody. Everybody was afraid of Venom, though, when they saw him for the first time... Except this guy. He'd seen them already and he didn't seem to be at all worried.
This plan might not work.
Spoiler: Character #1 (TW homophobia and human experimentation)
Name: Rowan Castaņeda
Age: 37
Ethnicity: Spanish
Sexuality: Gay
Abilities: Utahraptor shapeshifter and healing factor
History: Born in a small town in southern California, and when he was 17, his parents found out he was gay and threatened to send him to a conversion camp, so he ran away. Joined the military and spent eleven years as a USMC sniper. When he got badly hurt and wasn't supposed to survive, he was handed off to a project attempting to make supersoldiers. He lived, to everyone's surprise, got powers out of the deal, and up and disappeared.
Personality: He's mouthy and basically made up of sarcasm, loyalty, and slightly sketchy morals. Chaotic neutral in that "might save your life, might steal your wife" kind of way. Doesn't plan ahead very well most of the time. Eats more than any one person should reasonably be able to. Takes no shit and has no fucks to give. Never backed down from a fight in his life. Very good cook/baker and considers boxed mac n cheese a personal affront.
Spoiler: Character #2
Name: Peter Morris
Age: 410
Ethnicity: White
Sexuality: Bisexual
Abilities: Shadowwalking and fire manipulation
History: Born in London in the early 1600s to a single mother. It wasn't long before he ran away from home and he ended up a cabin boy in the British Navy around the age of eleven. He didn't stay with them for more than five years, lured into piracy by the promises of riches and freedom. Very disappointed when the age of piracy ended and went through a bunch of different jobs and places and identities before resuming his birth name and becoming a firefighter.
Personality: Extremely stubborn, rarely impressed, and a born leader. Tactless and irreverent as hell and prone to arguments. His ideas for settling conflicts tend to lean towards arson or never speaking with the person again. A bit more sentimental and kind than one would expect from a pirate captain, of all people. He can be a holy terror if someone angers him, but overall he's a relatively easygoing person who likes to have a laugh.
Spoiler: Character #3
Name: Chelsea Anderson
Age: 22
Ethnicity: Chinese
Sexuality: Lesbian
Abilities: Luck manipulation and illusions
History: Chelsea's mother was a Las Vegas con artist who managed to pull one over on the Chinese god of luck, and instead of being angry at her, he fell in love. But they thought that he was human, even when he told him the truth, because it wasn't really believable. She uses her demigod gifts to hustle pool, darts, cards, and other games to get a little extra cash, and hops from place to place doing whatever she wants and seducing all the pretty girls that she can. And sometimes killing monsters, because being a demigod comes with responsibilities.
Personality: An incorrigible flirt with a strong sense of duty. Outgoing and talkative with no brain to mouth filter, and an artistic streak a mile wide. She loves flowers and has been scared by every horror movie she's seen. A bit of a quick temper, and she isn't interested in being polite or quiet. But also a hopeless romantic and very loyal despite how often she moves from place to place.
Spoiler: Character #4
Name: Shatter McGowan
Age: 26
Ethnicity: African American
Sexuality: Pansexual genderfluid (they/them)
Abilities: Technopath, able to see the weak points in any inanimate object and shatter it with a touch
History: Boring as hell. Except for the fact that both their parents were costumed vigilantes. When it nearly got their dad killed, both retired, and Shatter was a little bit disappointed because their life really did get boring. Now that they're an adult too, though, they do a little bit of the same thing themselves. They can control machines and they can break anything - it's a great mix for someone who wants some action in their life. Shatter isn't their real name, but it's the only one they tell people.
Personality: More comfortable around computers than people and tends to get extremely awkward around anybody they have a crush on. Knows a bunch of random facts, sometimes in minute detail, but forgets things like paying their bills or getting some groceries. They're very forgetful, in fact, they joke that it's because they have too much in their head to remember anything new. Prone to a bit of white collar hacking, or at least it's white collar until they find something that needs to be told to the public. It'll probably get them in trouble someday.
Spoiler: Character #5
Name: Ezio Marcello
Age: 32
Ethnicity: Italian
Sexuality: Bisexual
Abilities: Can see and talk to ghosts
History: Father was Italian, mother was British, raised in Italy until he was an adult. That was when his abilities manifested. He soon found that what he could do made him an excellent homicide detective and he began working with the police. The only problem was keeping people from finding out that he had abilities or that his parents were part of a secret organisation that was dedicated to hunting and killing dangerous supernatural creatures.
Personality: Detail oriented and has an eidetic memory. He's always very curious about the other people with abilities that he meets, and about everything in general. Most people tend to like him but think he's a little bit strange. Especially since he can't explain that his random "zoning out" moments are because he's paying attention to some ghost that's wandered into the room. Overall he's a little quiet, impartial in most matters, likes to read, and doesn't often go out of his way to help people.
Spoiler: Plots
Feel free to edit, change, use, or ignore these as you like. I'm up for trying any of these with any one of my characters in any role, as well as any pairings, settings, or genres you'd like.
Character A is one of the last people living on a dying Earth. Character B, despite being just as human as they are, was born in space and never saw their home planet. They both sign up for an attempt at colonising a similar planet. Character A loves Earth and doesn't want to have to assimilate into an entirely different culture and climate. Character B has never seen a planet so similar to Earth and knows they'll never get a chance to see Earth itself so this is the next best thing. They're assigned to share the same room on the transport to that world but bad first impressions puts a damper on their relationship.
Character A thinks that they're the only person with any sort of abilities. But then they find out that their longterm best friend, Character B, also has powers. Character B originally only befriended them to be able to keep an eye on them and protect them from a secret society who has acted throughout history to kill all people with abilities as soon as they're discovered. Character A is originally angry because they think their friend is lying to them. But when the society attacks them, they have to rely on each other to survive as they go on the run.
Character A is royalty, seemingly in line to inherit the perfect kingdom, but is stranded in enemy territory. They find out that their father, the current ruler, is actually a cruel tyrant rather than a benevolent king, and that their kingdom's glittering reputation is nothing more than a facade. Character B, the leader of a rebellion against the throne, treats them kindly despite knowing who they are. Character A ends up agreeing to help the rebellion and overthrow their father for the good of the people.
Character A and Character B are on opposite sides of a war. When they meet in battle, they realise that they're each others' soulmates (identifying marks, touching them allows one to see colour, any variation of the trope works here). Character A turns on their side's soldiers to protect Character B, and Character B defects from their side to be with Character A. None of the commanding officers on either side are happy about what's going on, which puts them both in danger as they're both seen as traitors by the majority of the other soldiers.
Character A is law enforcement in a mostly crooked city and Character B is a Robin Hood-esque criminal. Character A has been letting Character B go instead of arresting them because they think that Character B is actually doing the right thing. Then they're found out and considered a criminal themselves for what they've done. Until now, there hasn't been any kind of friendship between the two, but Character B is the only person that Character A can think of who can help them.
Character A and Character B fall in love and have a happy life together. Then Character A dies in an accident. Several years later, Character B runs into someone who looks exactly like Character A and has many of the same habits, likes, and dislikes that Character A had, but no idea who Character B is. Character B tries not to mention any of this but eventually confesses everything they've seen and asks if the lookalike is Character A. The lookalike says that they appeared not far from where Character A was buried with no memories, exactly one year after the day Character A died.
Character A finds out that their spouse has been cheating on them throughout their marriage, most recently with Character B. Their heartbreak quickly turns to anger, and they contact Character B explaining the situation and asking for their help in getting revenge on their spouse. In the process, the two become friends, and possibly even lovers.
Character A works a boring job. It becomes slightly less boring when Character B shows up at their place of work, injured and in need of help. Character A helps them and covers things up as best they can so that nobody knows what happened. Character B comes back to thank them and then ends up returning again and again because they're starting to like Character A and neither of them have a lot of friends.
Character A works at a facility that creates clones. They're unaware that there's a secret side to the facility that creates clones to frame and blackmail innocent people, but then it happens to them. Instead of doing what they're told, however, they kidnap their clone, Character B, and escape the facility with them. Now, not only is the facility trying to hunt them down, Character B has never been outside the facility and has no idea how to function in the real world. (Alternatively, Character A is a scientist told they're working with donated genetic material, but finds out that the lab has kidnapped and caged people to harvest the material from, and Character B is one of the kidnapped individuals. Or Character B is a clone of a dead relative/friend/lover and Character A rescues them because of their connection with the original.)
