"As I've been told recently, there has been no changes to the northern borders. Which means, the situation there has remained unchanged. The Nighthaunts are steadily growing in influence, but have not expedited their expansion. This will give us enough time to appropriately marshal our forces for the coming Wave. Marshal Corren, are our men battle-ready?"
"Yes. However, we have recently experienced a shortage in supplies. So a long-term campaign is out of the question."
"I see. Then we will have to end the Wave shortly and swiftly. In the meantime, we can assume that we have the attrition?"
"If this wave is like the others, then yes. We would only have to last two or three bells at most."
He gave a stiff nod to that. "Right. Then we shall begin preparations at once, be swift."
She gave a nod to this.
"Next is dealing with this Ripper creature. I'm sure you're aware Adviser Daymar?"
"Quite so. It is actually the talk of the region among house circles. The other lords and ladies are scared helpless by this ferocious creature."
"My wife had suggested we find mages and meisters to take care of this issue. Is this the correct action?"
"If we want to avoid losses on our side trying to kill this creature, then it would most certainly be the most pertinent and safe option."
He pondered this for a few moments before acknowledging this. "Then we shall post this task to the local boards in all the taverns across the region. If we cannot gather the necessary individuals for this task, then we will have no choice but to deal with it ourselves. We will wait until after the Wave to see what may come of this venture."
Corren and Daymar collectively bow.
"That shall conclude the defense meeting. You both have your duties, now act on them posthaste."
Daymar bowed while Corren saluted, both having left after that.
When left alone, he began to pace around the war room. His thoughts transfixed on these martial affairs. He stared out the window into the day. He narrowed his eyes on the horizon knowing that the true war was on lingering just beyond the horizon. He felt them. The gnashing teeth, and hungry eyes. He saw them firsthand, the war waged by his lineage.. A solitary war that none of the other houses even wished to participate in.
"Hmph. If they will not fight on behalf of humanity, then I will deal with them myself."
After that there came a knock where a ranger, of sorts, stepped in and presented themselves. "My lord."
Alduin looked over his shoulder at the ranger. "You may speak."
"Yes my lord. I have come with reports from the Ranger Corps."
Alduin's brows raised at the sound and he immediately turned to face the ranger. "Speak."
The ranger nods, "We have received word that there appears to be a pack of Runewolves moving through the eastern lands, as well as possible sightings of undeath..."
Alduin was a bit in shock at this. "Have you sent for hunters and battle-clerics?"
The ranger shook his head, "We wanted your word first before making a decision."
"Then do just that. The Wave is close is at hand, we cannot spare a single guardsmen. Go. Now!"
The ranger nodded and sprinted out.
Alduin leaned on the table-map, and sighed heavily. "It's just one hell after another..."
