Maeva squeezed her eyes shut and tightened her hug. She didn't want David to see her cry. "...Thank you," she murmured, her voice quivering.
Roger released himself from the hug and let Maeva have this moment. He ushered his adoptive dad and son into the house.

When Maeva heard him take David inside, she sniffled and allowed herself to cry. Roger's mother was just too kind, and it overwhelmed her. She'd never had a mother figure like this growing up.
She just maintained her hold on Maeva. "I know my child. It is always hard to deal with loss. Especially one so close to you and so young."

She rubbed her back. "No one ever does. But sounds like you needed to. I know that Roger does his best but you both seem to like to be strong for the other person but that means that you both can't show any weakness either. It's okay to be weak in front of him sometimes. Even in front of David."
