She looked at him. "Do you want to try again?"
"Yeah. One more time can't hurt." He closed his eyes and concentrated on the spell and placed his hands over Maeva's on her crystal ball.

She nodded and closed her eyes as well, focusing again on the speaker and the voice that had come from it.
This time the vision did not immediately cut out but it was still hazy. Maeva could see a room with two men inside but she was unable to distinguish any features on their faces. The voice over the speaker spoke but at least she could clearly hear that.
"The demon is becoming useless. We've been searching for the Marked One for years to no avail. Even his son is now gone."
"We never should have let him go when he was in our grasp."
"We didn't know just who he was then. He was just a little stubborn upstart and a pain in the ass."
"The Marked One needs to be sent to hell soon. His presence on this plain worries me."

Maeva frowned, but held onto the vision to hear more. She wondered whether they meant Roger or his father.
"I know but we can't find him. He was in our grasp. He was last seen in Oregon along the coast. That's where the body of the traitor was found."
"If we can find his son, Roger, then we can use him as bait to capture him."
"That's assuming that the Marked One would fall for such a trick."
"Or we just trick Roger into calling upon his father. Then he would believe it."

"He can't stay hidden forever. We need to resume our search for him now."

Maeva grumbled a soft curse and hooked her thumb around Roger's, needing the comfort. "They are fanatically looking for your father," she murmured to him. "So much so that they would like to use you to get to him. But they don't know what his new host body looks like. I could help them, but I don't want them to find us..."
Roger kissed the top of her head. "How can we show them what he looks like now?"

"I can try to contact them," she said softly. "Share my vision with them. But I don't know what that may mean for us."
