Roger looked at her confused as she looked at him with terror and then cringed away from him. He looked at her and stroked her cheek. "Maeva.... Come on, you've seen the black eyes before. What's wrong?"

She closed her eyes, unable to being herself to look at his for longer. "...They're different now," she murmured, and bit her lips.
He frowned as she closed her eyes. "I don't feel any different. Trust me, okay?"

She nodded and hugged her knees to herself, keeping her eyes closed.
He wanted to hold her but decided against it. Instead, he sat next to her and kept a lookout. He didn't want to scare her even more. To make matters worse, he wanted to smoke.

Almost an hour later, there was a figure approaching from their left. As he got closer, Roger would be able to tell that it was David. And he was alone.
Roger watched the figure intently. When he saw that it was David, he nudged Maeva. "Hey. David is here." He said softly. "It looks like he's alone."

Maeva looked up and followed his gaze. She slowly and quietly got up, listening for his footsteps. When she saw him emerge from the bushes, alone, she smiled and went over to him to give him a hug. David happily hugged her back tightly, swaying her gently.
"...Hey," she said softly. "Are you okay?"
"Hardly," he murmured, pulling away. He looked at Roger and suddenly frowned deeply. "Roger? What's wrong with your eyes?!"
Roger smiled as David and Maeva embraced. When David looked at him, he shrugged. "It's a side effect I think from the magic. I was making sure that you can alone and that you weren't followed."

David let go of Maeva and walked over to Roger, still frowning. He examined his eyes closely. "No way... This looks like..."
"Like what?" Maeva asked cautiously. David looked at her.
"Like what I've seen in what little books the organisation had on the healers."
