"But you tried," Maeva murmured into his hair, stroking his back still. "You did all you could. You went through a lot to protect him. That's what matters."
David continued to cry. "He got hurt again. We didn't even do anything! We were just trying to walk." He held onto her and rubbed his face into her shirt. Roger gently patted his shoulder.
"It'll be ok. We're here now. We'll help you both."

Maeva nodded and pulled away a little so she could wipe his tears. "We're not going to send him home without protection. Don't worry." She kissed his forehead and stood up. "Let's go inside, okay?"
David shook his head. "I had to walk here." He pointed in the direction of the apartment building. "Our base is that way."

She smiled a little at his usage of the word 'base'. "Okay. Then let's get you into the car, and you can lead us to it."
David nodded and got into the car. "It's just straight down the road. I'll point out the building." Roger looked at Maeva and helped her into the car before driving down the road. Once they got close, David pointed out the building.
"We're on the third floor. Jimmy should still be there. He's probably worried about me." David said, getting out now.
