The World of Drezen
Drezen has been home to the dragons for as long as it can be remembered. Before humans came dragons wielding powers too grand to imagine. Eventually, humans trained these wild beasts to be their partners, serving with them for the good of the kingdom. That is, until mankind started falling apart. What once was one land became fragmented, kingdoms fighting with each other, their dragons crucial to their wars.
Many warriors died in the scrimmages, too many. The concept of a warrior dragon became so rare at one point that many feared they would become extinct. Thus, the kingdoms came together to a truce to save the dragons, starting up a single academy to train these destructive beasts and their bonded riders.
The rest of society lives much like the medieval Europe. Kings and politics are still around but wars are fought with men, not dragons. Warriors are kept for show, jousting and fighting greater threats that are starting to slowly destroy the world. Beasts threaten to take down the remaining wild dragons and all of humanity. For now, they are just testing the waters but then...
Drezen's Dragon Hierarchy
Dragons are born with either possessing magical abilities or not. Only female dragons are born with the pure magical genus and it is the most popular one. Male dragons possessing magic are rare and are healers, making them extremely valuable. Warrior dragons aren't gender restricted but are extremely rare so it is hard to know why they occur or how. Regular dragons are used for every day purposes and as pets. They are typically smaller than their magical counterparts and cannot breathe fire very well.
Drezen's Society
All children are tested for magical aptitude early on in their life. Those with magical powers can apply to be a mage and potentially train with mage dragons. Girls can become healers if they show a specific tendency. Only noblemen can train with the warrior dragons, a honorary position from years before. Ordinary men can became the Dragon Guards, warriors who fight for the king and protect the dragons.
