Spoiler: You hear a knock on your door one day......and as you answer the door, you see none other than Mark Edward Fischbach, a.k.a. Markiplier, dressed in a black and gold Greco-Roman outfit complete with helmet and sandals. He exchanges a few greetings with you before giving you a scroll and a wooden chest, urging you to look through both items as quickly as possible and promising to explain everything.
While Markiplier waits outside, you go back inside and set down the chest, then open the scroll and begin to read it.

“The Society Against Evil needs your help!
“You may have heard of us through Joey Graceffa’s show “Escape the Night” on YouTube Premium. While it is true that Mr. Graceffa has been involved in some of our most recent missions, the Society lost contact with him during an assignment at the Museum of the Dead earlier this month. Efforts are currently underway to locate Mr. Graceffa, but a far more urgent situation has recently come to our attention.
Those of you who are familiar with the show Escape the Night may have heard of a being known as the “cursed god”, and the Society has learned of a prophecy dating back to Ancient Greece saying that he would escape from his imprisonment in Tartarus and bring about the end of the world as we know it, unless certain mortals from the future travel back in time to stop him. To that end, given each of your particular skills, we are now reaching out to you to help us with this mission. If you succeed, you will have earned a place among the ranks of the Society Against Evil. But if you fail... believe us when we say you don’t want to know.
One of our agents, whom you may recognize as Markiplier, will take you by chariot to a ship that will transport you to Ancient Greece, where you will begin your mission. You have also been given a chest containing clothing that corresponds to a specific persona from ancient times. When you are ready to depart, you must be wearing this clothing and cannot carry anything with you from the modern era, or else the chariot and the ship will both remain hidden from your eyes. Mark will answer as much of your questions as he can, and more will be explained to you in good time after you arrive.
Farewell, and best of luck.

The names “Joey Graceffa” and the “Society Against Evil” sound vaguely familiar. Weren’t they part of a show on YouTube Premium that was kind of like this, with several YouTubers being invited to parties in different time periods? And come to think of it, didn't those parties always somehow lead to everyone taking part in different challenges that resulted in all but a few of them being horribly murdered?
But maybe you're overthinking this. That was all fake, after all... wasn't it?
Markiplier still stands patiently at your doorstep, awaiting your response.
Spoiler: Rules & Game MechanicsSpoiler: RP RulesNo godmoding, no powerplaying, stick to the rating (I.E. No cybering or anything like that) ... All of these should go without saying on this site, but there you go.
Bear in mind that there WILL be casualties in this RP. This RP is structured in such a way that literally anyone can die at some point down the line, and so each player will control multiple characters so that nobody is excluded after only one death. Even Markiplier (the designated “savant” of this RP) is not exempt from death. But on the other hand, there WILL be at least one chance to revive a deceased character later on, so don’t despair if you run out of characters or if your fave was killed off.
Don't hog the RP. This RP will be designed to give everyone a fair share of the spotlight and a fair amount of control over what happens in the RP, so please extend the same courtesy to your fellow players, and especially don’t leave out anyone who is trying to interact with you. OC backstories and character interactions are fine, but it's not fair for any particular group of players to hog a scene in such a way that no one else can get involved or have any reasonable degree of control over the story. Likewise, it's not fair for any particular group of players to start constantly alternating posts among themselves on the IC thread while ignoring other players or without giving anyone else a chance to post; if a scenario comes up where you must alternate replies in this manner, you may put together a co-op post over PM's and then post the full co-op post when it is finished, provided that this is not done in such a way that other players are not given a reasonable degree of control over what happens in the RP (I.E. Powerplaying, Autohitting, etc.).
Use third-person story format for all posts. This may seem minor, but it's been my experience that using other formats can lead to confusion, or may make it more difficult than necessary to be descriptive with your posts, and for players to use different formats can also get confusing, so I've decided to set a clear standard for everyone's benefit.
Put a reasonable amount of effort into your posts. I won't nag you over every little spelling mistake, and I'm not requiring a full-blown novel in every post. But if your posts are so poorly written that no one can understand what you're writing, or if you don't include enough detail in your posts for other players to be able to write a decent reply, something's amiss.
And of course...
Have Fun!
Spoiler: Game MechanicsThe gaming portion of this RP will be divided into MISSIONS and CHALLENGES/SACRIFICES. Missions and challenges will use a lot of dice rolling, but exactly what kinds of rolls will be used varies. Click here for more info on dice roller codes.
Spoiler: MissionsMissions are objectives that all living characters cooperate in. Each mission will consist of various puzzles and other tasks, and each individual puzzle/task that a player helps with will require one or more dice rolls. The dice rolling process for missions is as follows:
- A standard 1d100 dice roll is used for each individual task in a mission.
- The “raw result” (“RR” for short) of the dice roll will be multiplied by the character’s corresponding stat (see “Character Profiles & Stats”) to get the “final result”. In other words...
FR = RR * Stat- The final result will be compared to a previously specified number (the “difficulty threshold”, or “DT” for short) based on the estimated probability of success in the task in question for the average person.
- If FR >= DT, the player succeeds in the task. For puzzles, the solution will be sent via PM to the successful player(s).
- If FR < DT, the character has difficulty with the task, but may have the option to “salvage” the task by rolling again for a different stat using the same procedure as before, and will ultimately succeed in the task if at least one save roll passes as previously noted. However, failing all possible save rolls will result in the character failing the task, which may lead to further consequences.
- If there are multiple characters working together on the same puzzle/task, all of the characters involved will roll separately, but only one of the final results will be counted (highest or lowest, depending on the task).
BEWARE OF LAZINESS DURING MISSIONS! This isn't a rule per se, but characters deemed (fairly or not) to have contributed less than others during missions are generally more likely to be voted into challenges or sacrificed. Characters whose failure(s) during missions are bad enough to seriously weaken the group's overall performance in missions are also generally more likely to be targeted in this way.
Spoiler: ChallengesChallenges will typically come at the end of each mission, and consist of two characters competing in a single set of puzzles/tasks that will (with only one possible exception) ultimately result in a character being killed off.
There are many possible challenges, including some that may contain extra twists and will therefore not be listed here, so as not to spoil the surprise. However, the two main types of challenges are as follows:
--> In a STANDARD CHALLENGE, each character votes for one person (either themselves or another character) to be put up for elimination, with each vote increasing the likelihood of a particular character being selected. Two names are then randomly selected (via dice-rolling) from all of the votes, and the two characters whose names are drawn will compete against each other in the challenge. The first character to complete the challenge survives, while the other character is killed off in a manner corresponding to the setup of the challenge.
--> A PROXY CHALLENGE is nearly identical to a Standard Challenge, except that the characters put up for elimination must each select a safe character to compete in the challenge on his/her behalf. In this case, the character who selected the losing player is killed off.
Character stats will not apply during character missions. Instead, there will be a series of 1d20 dice rolls to simulate each character's progress in each post over the course of the challenge as a whole. The first character whose dice rolls add up to 100 or more will win the challenge. If both characters pass the 100-point mark at the same time, the character with the largest total sum of their dice rolls by that point will win. Tiebreaker rolls may also be used as needed.
Spoiler: SacrificesSacrifices may occasionally be featured at the end of missions instead of challenges. In a typical sacrifice, each character votes for one person (either themselves or another character) to be killed off, with each vote increasing the likelihood of a particular character being selected. One name is then randomly selected (via dice-rolling) from all of the votes, and the character whose name is drawn will be killed off.

Spoiler: StatsStats will be used primarily during missions, in which dice rolling will be combined with the relevant stat(s) for any particular task to determine a character's success in that task. Each character has 30 stat points at the beginning of the RP, which may be distributed however the player sees fit. Additional stat points may also be earned through certain actions or events (e.g. surviving a challenge) as the RP progresses.
The 6 stat categories used in this RP are as follows:
- COMPOSURE :: How good is the character at keeping calm under pressure and not “freaking out” when presented with something horrifying or unpleasant?
- FOCUS :: How good is the character’s attention to detail and ability to stay focused on the task at hand?
- MASTERY :: How good is the character at solving complex puzzles and correctly identifying/interpreting clues that the average observer might miss?
- STEALTH :: How good is the character at hiding or otherwise avoiding detection by enemies if necessary?
- GRACE :: How well can the character avoid clumsy accidents such as dropping or knocking over items? Also, how well can the character dodge incoming objects or enemies if necessary?
- SPEED :: How fast can the character move, particularly when faced with a time limit?
