I love the idea of posting literally any character of any sort and then swapping, because that's part of the challenge. If we put stipulations on it then it rather detracts from the idea, no? I say let's all throw into a hat and have the GM draw for us or have us draw. If it's a different race, gender, occupation, whatever - that'll just make it something twisty your own transplanted mind/personality will have to come to grips with in the end!

I do just imagine drunken pirates all getting "Freaky Friday'd" in a pub for carousing too loudly for a random wizard/magician/what have you who happens to be trying to sleep. Waking the next day, they'd all be miss-matched with the other tavern patrons, if you're looking for ideas on where the cross-over could occur!

If everyone's swapping bodies, after the initial confusion, things settle down. If it's a handful swapping bodies, well, who's going to believe it when the most notorious assassin in the kingdom protests that they're a priest?

Of course, what happens if the switch takes place every time when people fall asleep? Besides buying a lot of strong coffee?
