A witness to an unspeakable crime.
Or a survivor of the destruction of your home world.
The keeper of some rare artifact or knowledge someone has already killed for.
One of the few humans to have left their primitive world.
A scientist who's doing some private research.

Or all of the above.

But what you really need is someplace safe. And let's face it, there is no place in this galaxy that as safe as Earth¹. However, let's not throw all caution to the wind here.
