i mean one of starcream's main tropes was that he was incompetant and backstabbing. a lot of megatron's plans failed BECAUSE of starscream

Incompetance doesn't mean idiot.

As for backstabbing that is a common trait for evil Decepticons.

A lot of Megatron's plans failed because Megatron allowed Starscream to live instead of killing him like he should have. First and possibly second time, I can see Megatron allowing Starscream to live. After that Megatron only has himself to blame, that is the sign of a truly stupid person.
