Personality: A dreamer since hatching, Soren has always loved the stories of the Guardians of Ga’Hoole, a group of noble owls that protect the five kingdoms from falling into the talons of evil. Idealistic and virtuous, Soren believes in equality for all owls and always tries to do good. Slightly naïve, he once believed war to be glorious and heroic. Now, he knows it to be doing right time after time, no matter the consequences.
History: Soren lived in a tree hollow in the Tyto kingdom with his parents, brother Kludd, sister Eglantine, and his nursemaid Mrs. Plithiver. One night, after branching with his brother Kludd, both owls are snatched by patrols of St. Aegelius. Soren is forced to become a picker and makes friends with an elf owl named Gylfie while Kludd is trained to be a warrior and indoctrinated by the Pure Ones. After escaping with Gylfie with the help of an owl named Grimble, Soren soon meets up with a Great Grey Owl named Twilight and a Burrowing Owl named Digger. Recognizing the snake Twilight has caught for dinner as Mrs. Plithiver, he convinces Twilight she is not for eating.
Thus they begin their quest for the Great Ga’Hoole Tree, and meet The Echidna, who directs them and reveals the secrets of the stars to Gylfie. Once across the Sea of Hoolemere, they arrive at the Great Tree and are trained as Guardians by an elderly Screech Owl named Ezylryb. Ezylryb is actually the great war hero Lyze of Kiel, who teaches Soren that war is not at glamorous as he originally thought. Ezylryb has since left his warrior days behind and has become the ryb of the Weather Interpretation chaw.
After Eglantine is rescued from St. Aegelius’s, she reveals that Allomere is a traitor and the Guardians are flying into a trap set by the Pure Ones. Soren and his group take off to stop them, Soren wearing Ezylryb’s old battleclaws. He frees the Guardians by lighting the nearby forest ablaze and fights his brother Kludd, who has become even more resentful and angry with the Pure One dogma. After a brief fight, Kludd falls into the raging inferno. In his grief and anger, Soren grabs a burning branch and takes off to fight Metal Beak, the leader of the Pure Ones. He succeeds and frees Ezylryb from Nyra’s clutches. Nyra, the now-widowed Queen of the Pure Ones, calls for them the fall back. Soren and his gang are given full Guardian status for their bravery.
Abilities:
Flight: He’s a Barn Owl, he can fly.
Battleclaws: Wearing the equivalent of a leather glove with razor blades strapped to the fingers on his talons, he is significantly more dangerous than a regular owl.
