The Binding of the Sun - Mesoamerican-Inspired Fantasy Interest Check
Every 52 years, the two calendars converge. This marks a time of change, when the old is discarded and the new is forged in blood. Each fire in every household will be extinguished. Then, the priests of the Sun shall light a new fire on the zenith of the pyramid. They will remove the heart of a captive and cast it into the flames. Should the gods accept the offering, the sun will continue onwards. But should the gods find the sacrifice wanting, the sun itself will be destroyed, and the world ended in a rain of fire.
In the capital city of Aztlán, the priests of have become fat and complacent. The sacrifices they offer the gods have dwindled, and what blood they do give is poor in quality and little in quantity. And for that, they have paid the price. The Binding of the Sun ceremony has come and gone, and the gods have scorned the people of the earth. The Tzitzimimeh have begun to descend, bringing with them darkness, chaos, and death. However, all is not lost.
Huitzilopochtli, the god of the sun, has escaped his sisters. He still holds faith in humanity, and has revealed to them a way to reforge the sun. Should they succeed, the solar cycle can continue, and the end of the world postponed.
