Kavik made a decision in a split-second. Behind his mask, his lip curled and his yellow eyes narrowed in hatred. He practically spat the words out:

Jedi. An order of Force-wielders that believe themselves to be invincible. Their order is staunch, corrupt, mismanaged. They have become stagnant. They say they follow the will of Force, but in reality only follow what lines their pockets.” He paused. “I don’t suppose you know what the Force is, do you?”

Isabel listened to him with her mouth slightly agape. An order, and a corrupt one at that? This sounded intense. She looked back at the forest, wondering what such people could possibly want from her. She frowned as Kavik mentioned the Force again, and asked if she knew what it was. She looked at him and slowly shook her head.

"...I'm afraid I don't," she said softly. "I mean, I know what force is, but not THE force."

“The Force is an energy field that suffuses the galaxy, in every creature, object, and sentient being. It is believed to have a sort of will, a vague consciousness that has its own machinations. Sentient species can be what is called “Force-sensitive” to varying degrees, allowing an individual to harness and wield the Force. The Force allows us to do many things, such as levitate objects. Like this.”

He opened his hand, and a rock flew to it. He held his hand out and concentrated on the stone. After a moment, it lifted into the air several inches. He allowed it to float there, suspended, for a few seconds.

Isabel listened with a deepening frown. An energy field with a will of its own? It sounded a little like... destiny. Until Kavik mentioned wielding it, and suddenly a thousand questions sprang into her mind. He mentioned levitation, and before she could ask, he was demonstrating it to her. She slowly rose to her feet with wide eyes and walked closer to the floating rock. She hesitantly reached out and passed her hand under and over the rock to confirm he wasn't using strings or anything to hold it up.

"That's... That's incredible," she whispered, her eyes fixed on the rock as it fell back into Kavik's hand. This opened so many doors of possibility... Maybe it could even allow her to build back her machine better. "How did you... How did you learn this?" she asked, looking up at him. "Can I learn this?"

He watched with amusement as she passed her hand between his own and the stone.

“I was taught by my Master, a very wise man named Darth Corrun. He helped me uncover the mysteries of the Force, and perhaps more importantly, to channel my emotions into power. My species, the Kaleesh, is known for being very aggressive. It helped us survive on Kalee. He taught me to crystallize that anger into something more useful.”

He considered for a moment, before nodding.

“The Force lives in every creature. It may live within you. We will see.”

Isabel stared at him in pure awe for a couple of moments. Kalee... that must be the planet Kavik was from, she assumed. This was amazing! Channeling emotions into power? What else was possible in this universe?! If she figured out how to work this Force... what would she be able to do with it?

No, she told herself. First things first. She shook off her shock and glanced back at the forest. "If those Jedi's are that dangerous... We should probably get out of here, no? You said you had a... a ship?"

“Yes, a starship. A personal craft of Coruscanti make. Very fast, and capable of making a hyperspace jump.” He considered for a moment.

“Hyperspace is a sort of alternate dimension only reachable when moving faster than light. It allows us to travel great distances. Most are forced to use the hyperspace lanes to avoid coming out of lightspeed in the halo of a black hole or colliding with a comet. However, my ship is equipped with a powerful navigation system that can plot its own courses through hyperspace.”

Isabel's shocked expression came right back as he spoke about traveling faster than the speed of light. That couldn't be possible! The rule that nothing can move faster than light was something her entire knowledge system was based on, this... This was unbelievable. This universe had sentient forces, a-and hyperspace jumping, and... four-fingered aliens that somehow spoke her language. This realisation made her snap out of her stunned state and look at Kavik with a slight frown.

"...How is it that I can understand you?" she asked softly. "How can we speak the same language?"

“I- hrm.” His brow furrowed for a moment as he thought. “I’m not quite sure. The language I’m speaking is the Galactic Basic, a trade language. My native language is Kaleesh. Perhaps not everything changes when traveling through dimensions. For instance, we are roughly the same shape, when all evolutionary theory would indicate such things would not be true. Perhaps the Force drew you to this dimension, to me?”

Isabel nodded along slowly. So they had evolutionary theory here, at least. It felt good to hear a familiar term after all those paradigm-shattering ones Kavik had mentioned so casually. "...Are you saying your Force can reach across dimensions?" she asked softly. if that was the case, going back home might turn out a bit easier than she'd feared. If Kavik was 'Force-sensitive' as he had said, perhaps they could use the Force to send her back home.
