With Ray's electric guitar shredding in the background, Heracross and Sandslash were exchanging blows, Heracross with Fighting-type attacks vs Sandslash's Steel and Rock-type attacks. Sandslash came barreling after Heracross with its third Rollout in a row and with a well-timed Seismic Toss, Heracross sent Sandslash airborne and into one of the psychic barriers at the side of the battlefield. Sandslash fell and was knocked out. Victory earned, Ray shredded a coda before receiving his Titanium Steel Badge.

Reuben's battle was a duel between two elephant-like Pokémon, his Great Tusk against Elizabeth's Copperajah. Things quickly grew shaky as Great Tusk was using moves like Earthquake, Bulldoze and Stomping Tantrum to great effect. Copperajah was dishing out the same moves back at Great Tusk and the battlefield was soon to be wrecked again. It came to the final stand. Copperajah charged at Great Tusk ready to pull out its ace in the hole: Play Rough. Great Tusk charged back at Copperajah with a Headlong Rush. The Pokémon collided and a large dust cloud enveloped the mangled battlefield. The dust cloud subsided and a loud trumpeting sound was heard as Great Tusk stood victorious over the fallen Copperajah, earning Reuben the Titanium Steel Badge.

After the arena was repaired again, Rex was up for battle with his Gallade against Elizabeth's Kingambit. Gallade got a Sacred Sword in before getting hit by Kingambit's signature move, Kowtow Cleave, triggering his Justified ability. It soon became a close-up duel with Kingambit's attacks being fended off or parried by Gallade's attacks and vice versa. A Bulldoze from Gallade threw off Kingambit's rhythm, leaving it open for a Close Combat. Gallade's bond with Rex made the hit critical and Kingambit was dethroned. Rex won the Titanium Steel Badge as Gallade bowed at Elizabeth.

Last in that line-up was Phoebe and her Palpitoad against Elizabeth's Perrserker. Elizabeth did not make it easy as her Perrserker pulled out the one type that Palpitoad was weak against through the moves Trailblaze and Seed Bomb. Palpitoad countered with Scald and left Perrserker with a burn before hitting with an Earth Power. Perrserker used another Seed Bomb and Palpitoad was rained on by the seeds. Palpitoad struggled to get up and when they did, the vibrating frog let off a glow of bright cyan light, growing to twice their height. The glow subsided to reveal a Seismitoad that quickly gave Perrserker a right hook Drain Punch. The hit was critical and Perrserker was out. Seismitoad hopped with joy as Phoebe received her Titanium Steel Badge.
It was a moment before the last 3 were called...

PA: *Calling* Will the final 3 please come to the Arena. Harold, Gerald... and Lila... And Patti. We apologize for the oversight. will the Last 4 please come to the Arena.

Alice: I want to take a wack at competing. But you 4 younguns go first. This round is for you.

Although no one realized that there were still two that were not called out. But who were they... and where were they?

But the 4 that were called... they made off to the Arena and got prepared to do battle...

There was no telling as of what could come from the 4 upcoming matches. No one knew what to expect... but that was soon to come.

Harold had sent out his Starmie against Elizabeth's Excadrill. Thanks to a few uses of Minimize on Starmie's part, Excadrill's attacks were missing more often than not until Excadrill pulled out moves such as Aerial Ace and Smart Strike while getting saturated by Surf and Hydro Pump attacks. A critically-hitting Brine was what defeated Excadrill, winning Harold the Titanium Steel Badge.

Gerald's battle was his Axew against Elizabeth's ever-spinning Klinklang. On a battlefield charged with Electric Terrain, Axew was taking hits from moves like Rising Voltage, Gear Grind and Steel Roller. The latter attack had destroyed the Electric Terrain. Axew soon found themselves held between Klinklang's gears through their Vice Grip and before they would succumb to the attack, Axew let off a bright cyan glow before evolving into a Fraxure. A Reversal from the newly-evolved Fraxure was enough to have Klinklang fall apart, earning Gerald the Titanium Steel Badge.

Lila's battle was her Torracat vs Elizabeth's Scizor. Scizor was trying as hard as they could to avoid getting hit while also dealing their own share of damage, mainly from moves like Acrobatics. All the while, Torracat was bringing the heat into battle through various Fire-type moves. As Scizor was charging in for an Aerial Ace, they got a full Overheat before their move would land. Thoroughly carbonized, Scizor lay defeated while Torracat sportingly dragged them into the range of the recall beam. Lila won the Titanium Steel Badge for the heated battle.

Last of the current quartet was Patti and like Lila, her Pokémon of choice was a Fire type. Unlike Lila, Patti chose her Arcanine while Elizabeth went with her Steelix. Similar to some other battles involving one or more Ground-type Pokémon, Ground attacks were being thrown back and forth with a mix of Fire-type attacks coming from Arcanine. During that time, the sunlight grew heavy, providing a boost to Arcanine's Fire attacks. Steelix started floating into the air from Magnet Rise and Arcanine responded with a Raging Fury, really turning up the heat on the battlefield. Steelix charged at Arcanine with a High Horsepower and Arcanine returned fire with their ongoing Raging Fury. A large cloud of dust enveloped the impact site that soon ignited into a large fireball rising into the air, revealing Steelix and Arcanine staring each other down with the former floating in the air. Through a burn that was inflicted on Steelix earlier in the battle, Steelix fell down and crashed on the battlefield while Arcanine jumped clear and then let off a victory Howl. Patti had won the Titanium Steel Badge.

After all had taken their stance... there was a shot for Randy and Alice to try their hand and even though it was gonna be against the Pokemon Gym rules for battles to be held between Gym Leaders and trainers who weren't out collecting Badges to compete for the Pokemon League... Elizabeth grinned and made it interesting... She had the two of them pair up against her for a entertaining 2 Vs. 1 battle where anything went. But not to the point of causing the entire room to shatter apart.

Randy called out his Entei and Alice called out her Mandibuzz before Elizabeth called out her Metagross. Clearly she had more than one. She had possibly 2-3 of the same pokemon. Now either that was a mere coincidence or it was one of her favorite pokemon and she was seeking to keep in close with a likely herd of Metagross.

It was then that the battle began with Entei kicking off the match with a combo of Lava Plume and Whirlwind...

Randy: *With Alice; Commanding his pokemon* Entei... Buddy... kick this match off with a Lava Plume... Mandibuzz, dear girl... whip it up with a Whirlwind... Combine the attacks and unleash... LAVA-WHIRL! Fire it towards Metagross... GO!

How was this special side match gonna go... that was anyone's guess. The last ones to go were Amy and Abigail. But that'd be later... They were biding their time as they were for the moment... watching everyone else battle and learning some tricks of the trade. Abigail kinda knew a bit already about how to battle. But some good pointers never seemed to hurt. There was always something to learn.

Now the current match... reared on... leaving it up to anyone's guess. There was no clue as to which way it was gonna go...

"Metagross, counter their attack with Gravity and shake them up with Earthquake!" Elizabeth called. Metagross increased the gravity of the entire battlefield, causing the combo attack to collapse under the high gravity and rendering Mandibuzz unable to fly. They then used Earthquake to shake up the battlefield.

It was a close call but even with the gravity to collapse the attack that Mandibuzz and Entei used and sent at Metagross... it was still enough to do a direct hit and nail the target head on. Doing optimal damage. But it was not over yet. It was a very stale stance...

Randy: Entei... it's okay. Shake it off... Let's use Agility on Metagross... Shift to Sacred Fire and then Eruption. Kiss the steel and make it cry!

Alice: Don't worry, old girl... this is not over. You're tough and it's gonna take a lot more to bring you down. Let's make this happen in our favor and show that this Housekeeper is no pushover. Hit fast with a Double-team... then shift to a full on punch with Brave Bird... and then smash with a HouseKeeper greatest hit... Striking direct and fast with HYPER BEAM!

Uh-oh... This match which was to be just for casual... is now a real match. I think that Alice is tapping into her battling side. Randy showing the same... Oh... this is gonna get really gruesome. Find out what comes from this... Can you... Can you feel the heat?

"Use Bulldoze to slow them down, Meteor Mash on Mandibuzz and Stone Edge on Entei!" Elizabeth called. As Entei boosted their speed and Mandibuzz created illusory clones, Metagross stomped the ground, slowing the challengers down before successfully predicting where Mandibuzz would be with their four brains and landing a Meteor Mash. Mandibuzz nailed Metagross with a Brave Bird point blank and Entei contributed a Sacred Fire to the two-pronged blitzkrieg. Metagross launched a double ring of rocks at Entei before getting inundated by an Eruption from Entei and a Hyper Beam from Mandibuzz. The latter attack didn't appear to have done much damage while Entei's attacks dealt more damage by a sizable amount.

Randy and Alice saw that their attempts were wearing Metagross down critically...

Randy: Alright! We're doing awesome. But we haven't taken the beach yet. Metagross is still in the game. *Commanding his pokemon* Entei... we've dealt with enough so far from that Metagross... But now it's time to flip the switch and really give it a bite of molten flames... Attack Metagross with a Lava Plume mixing it with a Eruption and Double-team... Then to really knock Metagross off kelter... Produce your style of a SOLAR BEAM! It's time to Put it on the dance-floor!

Alice: Well... this is getting pretty riled up. But no matter... We are not ones to just take this lying down. A Housekeeper has more tenacity than they think we do. So... Let's make our message known that... we are the ones that scrub back. *Commanding her pokemon* Okay girl... Let's soar up with Fly and mix it with a Sky Attack... continue your invasion with another hit of Hyper Beam... then Sparkle bright with a housekeeper's shine with another BRAVE BIRD!

It was getting pretty intense now... but they were sure as any... not equipped to give up. There was no room for them to give up. They were gonna keep dishing it out and let it known that they have quite a bit more bite than people would think that they do.

But question was... Who'd come out with the win... and how?

"Metagross, Earthquake at both while you still can and mix it with a Rain Dance, Meteor Beam on Entei, throw in a Bulldoze and finish with Rock Slide!" Mandibuzz had to recharge after her last Hyper Beam and was vulnerable to Metagross' next attack. When Entei caused superheated lava to erupt from the battlefield, Metagross conjured rainy weather to weaken Entei's attacks and set the battlefield shaking. When the tremors subsided, the gravity returned to normal.

As Entei and Mandibuzz charged up their attacks, Metagross fired a Meteor Beam at Entei. The two-turn attacks collectively did quite a bit of damage in spite of Metagross being resistant. Mandibuzz fired another Hyper Beam and landed a direct hit, doing just enough damage to knock Metagross out.

It was only then that the match was called...

Referee: *Calling it* Metagross has been knocked out and is not able to continue... Due to a close call... 2nd down. The winners of this match are Mandibuzz and Entei. The winners are Randolph Lightfoot and Alice Neville.

The crew in the waiting room were cheering as they were deeply moved by the very skills seen. It was a show to enjoy...

It was a Moment later when all matches were done... Curly and Eugene had their shot and with a swift hit and finesse of luck... got a badge as well.

    That Evening...

Jeremy: Okay everyone... We now got two badges and we're now with more experience. Perception... Titanium steel will.

Sandy: the next hit is Chicago city Gym.

Lisa: Along the way... we might come across some interesting cities or towns. It'd be rather awesome to enjoy the scenery a little during our journey to Chicago.

Marcie: Question is now... Which route are we apt to take to ensure that while we make our way to Chicago?

Jessie: We should check the map.

It was gonna take a little time to figure out the most optimal route... but with all things considered... their time at the New York City Gym was finally at a close. It was now... to their next challenge in the adventure.

Where were they to go next... was in fact... Anyone's guess.

Donald checked out a map app. His Zoroark conjured a visual aid for what he is about to explain. "According to this, we can take I-80 West and I-90 West to Chicago," he stated, tracing a path due west through the states of New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana and Illinois.
