Default Night on Ceres-9 - Interest Check

Congratulations, colonist! You have been selected from thousands to aid in the colonization of Ceres-9. With a mostly water surface, an entirely breathable atmosphere, and a 360-day revolutionary cycle, Ceres-9 earns a hefty 93 on the Krueger Habitability Scale and is number 5 on Forbes’ Top New Planets list! Please report to Landing Bay 47-B tomorrow at 0800. And remember our motto here at the Inter-Planetary Colonization Commission: Your new life is just a planet away!

    ———

The Inter-Planetary Colonization Commission’s mission is simple: find new planets for humans to live on, and put humans on those planets. So far, they have succeeded on all counts. Dozens of uninhabited planets, all terraformed and atmospherically redeveloped, have been brought into the fold of the rapidly expanding United Human Systems.

Ceres-9 represents a rare occurrence. A beautiful planet almost perfectly alike in every respect to Earth, brimming with life and waiting for humans. To the Commission, Ceres-9 is the holy grail. Colonization efforts are already underway. Should all go according to plan, Ceres-9 could have 1 billion inhabitants within the next 10 years.

Ceres-9, it seems, has other plans. Before the first ship of colonists could land, violent electromagnetic storms fried the AI navigational systems. Without a living pilot, the ship careened toward the surface of the planet, crash-landing in one great heap. As one last measure to ensure the survival of the colonists, the ship automatically ejected the hypersleep hold before impact.

Awakening on an alien planet, totally alone and miles from their ship, the colonists must now learn to survive on an unforgiving alien planet, find a way to contact the Commission, and survive night on Ceres-9.

Well, survival will be what it is about. I would state my interest, with that depending on parameters there would be for my character, trusting as I do that you would not abandon this thread or the forums here, as I have lately seen others with request threads they started do, and still needing to trust you would not drop off from activity of the in-character thread, as I have seen more of among roleplayers. I would have my character doing all things creatively thought of for the survival of that character's self and the others there.

Okay, so just the one sleeper hold? It didn't eject any cargo holds?

Without any sort of interplanetary comms, even if we do send a message off, it's likely to be years before they get it and longer to get a response. We'd probably be in a better state to contact the next colony ship.

I'm also going to assume we've had our shots or some sort of medical implant that keeps us from getting sick from any diseases native to this planet?

Sleeper hold takes priority over everything else. There wasn’t enough time to eject both, so the ship chose the sleeper hold. Though you might be able to find a few scavengable resources in the sleeper hold.

Everyone is equipped with an immune system booster that should protect you from most illnesses, but I’d still probably boil my water before drinking it.

So I'm going to assume all personal goods were also in the cargo hold, including the weapons crates. Since everyone would be in the sleeper hold, what need would they have for knives or guns?

Now, medical supplies I can see.

A possibility for you is that nobody dreams during transit.

When you're put into the pod and the system is triggered, a saline IV is started. First injection is sedation, which knocks you out. Second injection places you into a medically induced coma as the pod reduces the internal temperatures to just above freezing. Third injection, WoolyM-OxyB, is an oxygen-rich solution to keep the internal organs, especially the brain alive, mixed with what's best described as a biological antifreeze that keeps ice crystals from forming. What nobody knows is it burns in your veins and arteries. While it's not lethal, everyone is locked in flaming agony during the entire trip. You can't dream because it's not possible.

When you revive, another agent flushes the WoolyM-OxyB and sedatives from your system as warmed saline is pumped in, but there's still traces of it left and you wake up sweating heavily. Everyone thinks it's the revival agent that causes the sweats. Nobody knows the truth.

    That’s definitely an interesting possibility

It leaves everyone dazed. In some cases, memories are recorded while you're still in phase one sedation and are re-imprinted following the initial saline flush/reagent as warm saline is introduced to bring up your core temp.

Would make for some interesting scenarios in the event memory files are corrupted
