Howdy, y'all! Now that RPA isn't shutting down for the time being, I've thought up a few horror plots I'd like to do. I've been playing a good deal of Call of Cthulhu 7e recently, on top of rereading Dracula, and horror has got me firmly in its teeth. Hopefully, y'all see something you like. I'm also open to suggestions if not.
Spoiler: Der Schwarzenziege - Folk/Gothic Horror
The old women of the village whisper dark warnings to unruly children. These woods, they say, is the domain of Der Schwarzenziege, The Black Goat. Der Schwarzenziege is lord and master here, and enjoys nothing more than the taste of human flesh- particularly children if he can get them. So do not wander alone, children. Do not go beyond the ring of toadstools. Never step off the path. And always, always, be home before dark, lest Der Schwarzenziege find you...
Der Schwarzenziege is a gothic horror story with heavy folkloric elements taking place in the realm of Herbstwald. Herbstwald is an ancient land haunted by many ghosts. Winding paths lead through dark forests. Tiny, sparse villages stand as bastions against that which goes bump in the night. Grim-faced peasants make do as best they can, harvesting their crops, raising their children, and going to church.
The plot arises when several travelers pass into the domain of Der Schwarzenziege, drawing his attention. Whether they survive, we shall see...
Spoiler: The Horror of Habergam House - Cosmic/Lovecraftian Horror
The invitation and simple and without frills, but nonetheless shocking. The Lord and Lady Habergam had fallen ill, and wished to see their daughters married before they passed on. The Habergams had long been known as the "Hermit Habergams" due to their reclusive nature and isolated estate, though none could deny their exceeding wealth. The mystery of the Habergams was a popular conversation piece for the aristocracy of the surrounding counties. And here was a letter saying the Habergams were opening their doors for a ball! They had even included directions to reach their estate...
The Horror of Habergam House is a cosmic horror story set in England's Regency Period, in the winter of 1820. The social classes are highly stratified, with the poor getting poorer and the landed nobility getting richer. Fashion, art, and literature are at an all-time-high, championed by the Prince Regent himself, who denies the matters of politics and military exploits in favor of ostentatious frivolity. The Napoleonic Wars have just come to a close and the Industrial Revolution is in full swing. This is a time of great change in Britain, and the keen may find a ticket to success.
The plot arises when the player characters, amongst many others, are invited to the Habergam Estate for a ball, with the intent that the Habergam daughters are betrothed by the end of the night. However, the Habergam Estate holds many secrets, and something lurks in the in-between places...
Spoiler: Adrift - Nautical Horror
The sea was glassy and perfectly smooth in all directions, with nary a ripple nor wave. The sky, which only hours before had been cracking and shaking and roaring in the worst hurricane Captain O'Keary had ever seen in his many decades on the sea, was a deep and uniform slate grey. A fog had rolled in, white and impenetrable, but by some strange method seemed to keep its distance from the ship. The air felt cold and heavy in the old sea dog's lungs, thick as a soup. Hesitantly, he pulled his ancient compass from his equally-ancient coat pocket and undid the clasp. He watched the needle spin, and spin, and spin...
Adrift is a nautical horror story, wherein the crew are victim to the whims of a cruel sea. Victorian sailors find themselves in a strange realm both like and unlike their home, wracked by world-shaking hurricanes. But they are not the only inhabitants of these new seas, nor are they the first to appear. The ocean welcomes all into her watery embrace.
The plot arises when a ship of Victorian-era sailors are transported to the Seas of Immramm via a storm. Now on strange tides, they must find a way to return home, or risk being trapped forever...
Ok. Lovecraftian if we can go CoC style where I can shoot things (effectiveness pending).
Adrift if I get to be a somewhat friendly, other-worldy creature from yet another realm or reality that finds themselves in quite the same predicament

I'm an officer of the local constabulary. And it is my duty to be prepared for any... unfortunate circumstances.
Besides, I wouldn't be bringing anything too big, just a .45 cal pepperbox pistol concealed in my coat pocket. No one need know.

Well, it sounds like we're in agreement to run The Horror of Habergam House. I'll whip up an OOC and it should be ready in a couple of days. Very excited for this!
