At first there was only darkness that surrounded Lunae as he sat motionless in a chair. As he just stared into the darkness it was like he was in a trance. Nothing fazes him, not the darkness nor the fact that he was alone. In fact he was nothing more than a doll. His mind was not there. Just his mental manifestation of his physical form.
However, the darkness began to shift and change. It began to lighten, and take the form of a room. This room was simple in nature. It had a table that appeared in front of Lunae and bookshelves filled with books appeared all around the room making up the walls. A small lump appeared on the table and there were weapons scattered about the room. Some on shelves, and some leaning in the book cases.
Once the room was fully formed a gentle hand was placed on his shoulder as a soft voice began to speak. “It seems that ‘he’ was impatient. Forcing one to try and remember is a double edge sword. Though most minds will break when forced.” the voice said as they didn’t receive a response to their statement. A slight sigh escaped the lips of the one that was in the room. “Though it seems that you haven’t given up.” the deity said as they removed their hand from the god of forges shoulder.
“We will grant you the ability to regain what you have lost. Though, it will force you to face the decisions that you have made all of your life. If you are not willing to face these truths, then disappear. If you wish to fight for what you want then stay, and we will help you.”
The deity came to the conclusion that the God wanted to go through the process. All memories are connected, so only some memories would need to be explored. The deity walked over to the shelving and picked out one of the books. No memory is ever lost, he is the guardian. This small portion of the books that make up the grand library that they watch over. These books only belonged to Lunae.
They placed a book down in front of Lunae. They made sure to keep themselves hidden from Lunae's view. They never showed what they look like to any god. In fact, they normally don’t involve themselves in the affairs of the gods. However, this was a request that was given to him by the only person that knew of their existence. They were not going to tell them no.
Once the book opened completely the room was filled with a white light as the events of the book played out in Lunae’s mind. He remembered that he once followed the Monarch of chaos. He believed that having peace was something the world was not capable of understanding nor maintaining. So, he used his ability to create weapons for anyone that asked him for one. He put his all into the weapons, and didn’t care who used them and for what.
During that time he met a demi-god that came to him for a dagger. This young child only wanted the power to protect what was important to him. Lunae accepted the commission. Something about the child's innocence intrigued Lunae causing him to befriend the young god. As time went by Lunae continued his work and one day a goddess approached him for a weapon. He of course made the weapon, but little did he know the consequences of making that weapon would be.
Tears fell from Lunae's eyes as he was forced to relive the moment that took the life of the only God he had called a friend at the time. How a weapon that was created by him because of the path he followed gave the goddess the power to get her revenge on the demigod that wronged her. In that moment as the young demigod died in his arms he changed. He abandoned the path of Chaos and walked a different path. A path that aligned with none of the gods. He secluded himself in the mountains of the realm of the goddess of balance. He continued to make weapons for anyone that sought him out, but they would need to find him first.
The book closed and the god returned it to the shelves from whence it came. Then another book is pulled from the shelves, and placed in front of Lunae. “Everything that happens in our lives defines who we are. Memories are like a river that flows constantly. Once you remember something it can cascade onto the next.” the god said as they opened the next and last book. This one book should cause this god to remember everything. For this is the book containing what he truly lost.
Lunae was not happy that someone came to his home demanding that they come out of the mountains to meet with the god that had sent him into the forest to find Lunae. It took the god some time, but Lunae finally relented, and said he would come down the mountain and meet with his client. Though this was not how he normally worked, he would do it this once. After this he would move again. He never stayed in the same place for long. Because he didn’t want to have the people that found him telling others where he was. He wanted each person to earn their right for him to make a weapon.
Lunae was mad. He had come all the way to meet this prospective God just to have his time wasted. The god wanted him to make a weapon that would make whoever was cut by the blade fall madly in love with the one holding the blade. That was complete nonsense. If that god wanted someone to fall in love with them then why not ask the god of Love to help them? He was not going to waste his time making such a weapon. In his anger Lunae didn’t pay much attention to where he was going, and eventually got lost.
Wandering for what seemed like hours. As he wondered, he found himself in a beautiful garden full of flowers. Amidst the flowers there stood a god tending to the flowers, and speaking to the animals. His long black hair shined in the afternoon sun, and his striking features had Lunae just staring at the god.
Silvannus ran a hand through his long silky hair and turned when his senses picked up on another entering the garden he tended to every day. When he caught sight of the deity standing at the edge of his garden, he smiled warmly. The man was handsome, very easy on the eye and had the smell of smoldering flames and embers.
“Oh, well hello there. You seem lost. Although most who seek me often are lost in some way. How can I help you?” Silvannus said, realizing he hadn’t introduced himself to the stranger. “Where are my eternal manners? I am Silvannus, Overseer of the Garden of Arcana and you are?”
Lunae continued to stare at the god as he stood up and looked in his direction. His long flowing hair caressed the gods face, and his striking features were even more elegant now. It was like he was perfection in its eternity. He was elegant, and refined. The complete opposite of himself. He was more rough than the God before him. Even when he spoke his voice was soft, and relaxed. He was perfect in every aspect. A slight blush burned on his cheeks.
As the god spoke to him Lunae’s voice suddenly stopped working. He was unable to speak, only a nervous noise came from his lips. It took him a moment before he was able to speak. He calmed himself, dropping his eyes so as to not look Silvannus in the eyes. He didn’t know why he was unable to keep his composure with this God.
“My name is Lunae.” he said trying to keep his voice calm. Trying not to reveal that he was nervous. “I seem to have lost my way. I am trying to find a way to enter the Ashen forest.”
Silvannus smiled warmly, noticing the slight blush that had formed on Lunae’s cheeks. He fluttered over to Lunae, examining the other with his mysterious eyes.
“God of the Forge ... .losing his way. Perhaps today is my lucky day…”.
Silvannus was never the type for subtlety. The God of the Forge was incredibly handsome.
“I am sorry you lost your way, but I’ll be more than happy to help you find it…. First, why not sit for a spell and relax.”
The moment that Silvannus closed the gap between them Lunae looked into his eyes accidentally. The chocolate brown eyes locked with his and his blush deepend a little. When the God spoke again he knew that he was the god of the forge. It was no real surprise, but at the same time it made him happy for some reason. Yet when he asked if Lunae would stay for a moment and relax. He didn’t know what he should do.
“I appreciate the offer…” Lunae said as he stopped and then looked away from the god’s eyes looking at the flowers that were in the garden. He had been completely taken in by the god. He decided to take him up on his offer. “That sounds good.”
“Awesome,” Silvannus said, wrapping his arm into Lunae’s as if they were a couple. “I’ll show you around first and then we can have a chat and some tea. I always find that tea can help clear the mind.”
Silvannus smiled warmly, never taking his eyes off of Lunae as he spoke. He showed him the garden, how each flower represented something and how many of the flora had a purpose.
“This particular plant can put even the strongest of deities in a deep sleep that can last anywhere from 10 minutes to 10 days.” Silvannus touched the spiky leaves of the odd plant. It’s flower resembled the wings of a bat and the long stem held branches covering his barbs, while the leaves were covered with tiny hairs. The plant turned to Silvannus when he touched its leaf and Silvannus chuckled. “To think something so beautiful can have such a chaotic effect. Come, this way, the tea awaits.”
Silvannus hovered close to Lunae not wanting to overstep any boundaries. He had heard of the God of the Forge, but for him to get lost and end up on his doorstep must have been a sign of some sort.
“So tell me Lunae, what brings you to my garden? How did you get lost? Surely a man of your stature has someone to go back to?”
With each step that had been taken Lunae loosened up a bit. His jitters and unease melted away while they were looking at each of the plants in the Garden. The god seemed particularly fond of each plant. It reminds Lunae of his affection for his children. Maybe this God was a god of the earth. He was about to say something when the tea arrived. Then the small talk began, and he smiled slightly. There was no sense in not answering the questions presented to him.
“I got lost after my meeting with one of the gods that dwells in this place. They wanted me to make a weapon for them, but I refused. It was a ridiculous request. I don’t make weapons that force someone to fall in love with the owner.” Lunae said a little disgusted that the God would even request this of him. “Because of my anger I got lost, and couldn’t find my way out of this place. That is when I happened upon you.” he said as he then stopped for a second and looked at the god.
The last question was something that no god or goddess has ever asked him, and he didn’t really know if his children counted. “ I only have my children to return to.” Lunae said as he took a sip of the tea.
“A weapon to make someone fall in love with the wielder… well that is quite the request. I think you made the right choice. Love should not be tampered with, it should happen naturally,” Silvannus said, placing a cup of tea gently in Lunae’s hand. “It’s my special blend. It helps calm the mind and soothe the body.”
Silvannus took a sip of the tea before closing his eyes and exhaling gently. When he opened his eyes, they caught the light perfectly and added to his radiant beauty.
“Don’t let the request upset you Lunae. Take it as a lesson learned…,” Silvannus paused. Lunae had mentioned children. His warm aura never faded as he gazed upon Lunae. “You mentioned you had children… How old are they? Do they like gardens? Do they visit often?”
“I was not so much upset about the fact of the waste of my time. I usually don’t leave my home to go to a potential client. They usually have to find me. As one step of proving that they are worthy of me making a weapon for them.” Lunae said as he sipped the tea once more a smile forming on his lips as Silvannus spoke of his children. He placed the cup on the table.
“My children vary in age. I don;t know if they would like gardens. They would be unable to enjoy the wonders that flowers bring. Some of my children have left with their chosen partners. As for the others, they never leave their home. Unless they have found their partner.” Lunae said in a loving tone as he looked the god in the eyes. Deciding to take a chance he was going to ask a personal question.
“Are you currently seeing anyone, or in a relationship?” Lunae asked as his cheeks turned completely red. He was embarrassed about what he just said as he instantly regretted the question. “Though if you don’t want to answer it is fine. "Lunae stammered as he tried to take back the question.
Silvannus couldn’t help the slight blush that formed when asked if he was in a relationship. He was single, though it was his choice to be. Lunae spoke of his children in such a fond way it made him feel comfort as he took a sip of tea.
“I’m not currently seeing anyone,” Silvannus said, “but who knows, that might change now that someone has stumbled into my garden.” Silvannus flirted.
“You speak so fondly of your children. I hope to meet them one day.”
The memory faded. This was the beginning of what would turn into a change in Lunae's thoughts of the world. It would also be the beginning of him finding happiness once more. Then another bright light filled Lunae’s vision as the memory changed. Now Lunae was standing in a garden filled with flowers. A table in the center, and on that table was a silver velvet box.
The sun had just begun to set as the sky turned different shades of red and purple. The god sat with anticipation as this was the destination of the scavenger hunt he had set up for Silvannus for their onehundreth anniversary. He was not the only prize. The real gift was sitting in the box on the table. It was a weapon he had specially made for Silvannus. Using a method that he had refined after many years. All he could do was wait till he arrived.
Silvannus smiled as he approached the final destination. He had the items requested on the letter he’d found in his garden. Lunae had become someone he wanted to spend eternity with and every anniversary they managed to keep things fresh and mysterious. As he approached, he noticed a box on a table in front of Lunae. Floating gently over, he placed the collected items on the table.
“Happy Anniversary Love,” he said, eliminating the space between them. “I am sorry I am late, I ran into a few hiccups.”
Lunae smiled at Silvannus as they sat down for dinner, and the final gift that he had prepared. He didn’t mind that Silvannus was a little late, and trusted him. So, he didn’t ask what the little hiccups were, and just enjoyed the night. Presenting him with the two Fan’s he had made specifically for him. The memory went black again, and suddenly a new memory started.
“I warned you not to interfere with my work. You can’t tell me who I can make weapons for. I kept my promise, and told you about the commission, and yet you think that I am in the wrong. I will not justify my decision to you. Everything that has happened is your fault. You need to apologize.” Lunas said as yet another fight had started. Yet this time it was completely his fault. He had taken Silvannus’ staff and wanted to force him to actually see that he was in the wrong.
“I have never asked you to not make something. This is the one time I ask this of you, and you immediately become defensive. Do you think I’m controlling? Do you think I don’t want you to be happy? Where is my staff Lunae? I won’t ask again…”
It hurt him to be so angry towards the love of his life, but they were both headstrong and didn’t see their own faults. Lunae had received a commission to make a weapon for a shady individual, someone that Silvannus did not like and could see straight through his lies and deception. Silvannus had begged Lunae not to make the weapon, to refuse it and go on to the next commission. The one time in their entire relationship Silvannus asked this of him, and Lunae had refused. They’d been arguing on and off all day and it only got worse. When Lunae took Silvannus’ staff, the staff given to him by the Great Creator, formed from the veins of arcana just as he was, Silvannus saw red. There was no more working it out in his head. He wanted his staff and he wanted to leave and let Lunae do whatever it was he wanted to do. He loved him. It was obvious that he loved him. Even now during the argument a part of him just wanted to be held by Lunae, to kiss him, to hear him say that it would be alright. His outward appearance betrayed his inner thoughts.
Lunae knew Silvannus was not one to tell him what he should and shouldn’t do. He had respected his lover's decision to dabble in the chaotic magic that he had been learning from the Monarch of chaos. He even pretended to not know that is where he went when Silvannus told him that he was going to be gone for a couple of days a week. He only told him to be careful. Allowing him to leave without questioning him about what he was thinking about learning that kind of magic. Yet, right now Silvannus is telling him that he shouldn't make this weapon because the God seemed a little strange.
That was why when he asked him to not make the weapon he was angry. He felt a little betrayed, and right now he felt like he was in the right. Because of everything he had been turrning a blind eye too.
“I already told you what you had to do in order to get your Staff back.” Lunae said as his eyes narrowed. “It is not like I am the only one that is doing something the other disapproves of.””
“My staff is NOT your property to take and stash somewhere whenever you are upset,” Silvannus said, placing a hand on his hip and huffing loudly. “What am I doing that you disapprove of? Can you give me my staff while we talk about this?”
“Do you think I am completely stupid? Did you forget that I was once a follower of Chaos? I know that realm better than you do. Did you think I would never find out that you were going to the realm of Chaos and having Baldramort teach you how to control chaos? How you were babbling in that power, and how you would come home irritable?” Lunae said angrily as he crossed his arms.
“I knew what you were doing, I didn't approve of you going and learning that. Yet did I try to stop you? Did I mention that you were a fool, and you need to stop your pursuit of that power? NO! I DIDN’T! I allowed you to continue your pursuit. No matter how much I wanted to stop you. I trusted you to make your own decisions.” Lunae said as he turned his back to Silvannus. He was tired of this argument. If Silvannus still wanted to take the high ground on this he was just going to leave.
“Maybe you should have spoken up. How am I supposed to know that you don’t like something if you don’t say anything Lunae? Baldramort is my uncle and I visit him from time to time and when I visit him he likes to teach me about Chaos. I know you were once a follower of Chaos and that is why I don’t bother you with the knowledge of what he teaches me.”
Silvannus glared when Lunae turned his back to him and quickly approached him, grabbing his shoulder and turning him around forcefully.
“It is clear that you don’t care about this relationship, and it is clear that we aren’t as compatible as I had hoped. Give me my staff and I will leave you to your thoughts.”
Lunae had been getting ready to leave to try and calm down before this fight escalated. However, Silvannus had something else in mind when he grabbed his shoulder and forcefully turned him around. The sting of the words spoken next stun Lunae deep. His anger flared, and before he knew what he was doing he raised his hand to slap Silvannus across the face.
However, an inch before his hand would have connected Luna had turned into a ribbon and wrapped around Lunae's wrist stopping the forward motion of his hand. Looking at the ribbon a soft yet scared sound came from it. Like it was crying.
“Luna, let me go now” Lunae demanded in a stern voice. A hum came from the ribbon as it shook. “I won't ask again. Let me go now!” Lunae threatened as his tone went dark. Lunae retreated as he lowered his hand. He glared at Silvannus once more.
“Look who is being stubborn. Instead of admitting you were wrong you just want to leave. Maybe I should let lady Selrina know of your little trips before I go “
Silvannus stood defiantly in front of Lunae, glaring at him. Waiting for his lover, the man he’d made a vow with, to give him his staff. It was not a ordinary staff. The staff was a gift from the Great Creator. He had crafted the staff from the veins of the universes, creating it specifically for Silvannus to give him greater control over his authorities as well as to monitor him to ensure he didn’t go too off track. The sentient staff went wherever he went. It took the form of a bracelet or earring whenever not in use and for Lunae to take it as if it were a bargaining chip infuriated Silvannus. The argument was at a stand still. Neither wanted to admit that they were wrong and neither wanted to give in to the other. Both as headstrong as a bull.
When Lunae lifted his hand to slap Silvannus, for a moment he was shocked. He had never lifted a hand against Lunae and even in this moment all he wanted was to get his staff and give Lunae time to figure out what he wanted to do, but now things had gotten out of hand and his beloved fans, Luna and Sage, had stepped in to stop them from hurting each other. Silvannus watched the ribbon coil around Lunae’s wrist, preventing him from hitting Silvannus. When the shock wore off, and Luna let go, she immediately hovered over to Silvannus. Sage had taken the form of a ring on his left hand and Luna had transformed into a necklace, wrapping gently around Silvannus’ neck.
“How dare you raise your hand to me,” Silvannus said, his voice raised. The atmosphere around them shifted, reacting to the sheer force of his voice. “That’s it. I have had it. GIVE ME MY STAFF LUNAE!”
Arcane energy sparked wildly around Silvannus as his glare deepend.
They had both lost their tempers, and now the fight was getting worse. Lunae didn’t want this to get this bad, but he was not going to back down. Silvanus may have been right about him keeping his opinion to himself. He should have spoken to him about what he was doing, but he really didn’t want to cross a line. Now it was too late.
He had raised his hand to strike Silvannus and that was not something he should have done. He regretted it, but it was too late. He took a breath and then turned his back on Silvannus once more. He began to walk away. He was no longer going to be fighting.
“Your threats fall on deaf ears. All you had to do was apologize. Now you will have to wait. I have something I need to do. Maybe after you see your error. Until then, I will not return your staff. Go and visit your uncle. I have work to do, and don't have time to continue this redundant fight.” Lunae said as he made his way out the door of the house.
“Very well, if you will not tell me freely where my staff is, then I have no other choice but to forcefully take the information. I have given you every opportunity to reveal the location. You have tested my patience and I hope you know, this is me being reasonable.”
The scene faded again, and only darkness remained.
